Self Expression and Persistence with clay

1: My final name drawing and clay projects reflect on my identity by including a basketball on the name drawing which shows my love for basketball and that I play the sport. On my “evil eye” plate it is a part of Turkish culture and also seen a lot in street art in Turkey or even vendors. On my spray paint canvas, I included a person skating off the edge of the “A”, this represents me in a way because when I was younger I skated but I stopped because I got bored of it. As you can see on the spray paint canvas, I also included a basketball falling from the sky, which also repeats my love for basketball.

2: I proved my persistence with clay by learning the skills of: wedging (cubing the clay), kneading (kneading the clay), scoring, slipping and blending (making little cuts in the clay, putting water on the clay and applying or sticking another clay piece then blending it on the first clay piece). For spray painting, I faced the challenges of how to apply the spray paint.

Influencer formative analysis

  1. Purpose (RI.7.6): How well did you explain the influencer’s purpose in your analysis? What made your explanation strong, and what could you add to make it even clearer?

I explained well but lacked detail and didn’t emphasize enough. To get better, I could try add more detail and try to explain as much as I can.

  1. Evidence for Purpose (RI.7.6): Did you use specific examples of language to show the influencer’s purpose? How could you improve the quality or clarity of your examples?

I used some words from the vocabulary sheet and a little bit of formative language but not enough. I could improve by committing more and looking for other ways to include even more formative language.

  1. Vocabulary (L.7.6): How well did you explain the connotation of words or phrases from the video? What helped you succeed, and what’s one way you could go deeper?

I explained the connotation of words well but not well enough. The things that helped me succeed or explain more is the fact that I looked at our previous lessons and the exemplar. I would want to go deeper by being more open minded and not doing the least but doing the most.

  1. Connection to Audience (L.7.6): Did you connect the connotations to the audience’s emotions and understanding? How could you make those connections stronger next time?

I did connect the connotations to the audience’s emotions but did not fully understand it. I could make those connections stronger next time by watching or reading the video more thoroughly and looking for harder words instead of always choosing the easy connotations.

5. Bant to practice more the yubric (purpose or vocabulary) do you feel more confident in, and which part do you

I feel the most confident in part 1, in the part 2 I kept not being sure of what
I was writing

  1. Growth: If you could revise your analysis, what specific change would have the biggest impact on your score?
  1. Future Application: How will you use what you learned from this assignment when you analyze another influencer video or a different type of media?

• If you include audio or video, you MUST do so via a link to your OneDrive so that it’s only viewable to people at SAS.

Unit 1 ELA Media Project Summative

For this Unit 1 Media Project I chose TV commercials because I feel more flexible with video making and promoting a product. TV commercials showed my purpose by persuading the audience to buy my product which was a blanket. If this was a slideshow assignment it would’ve affected me in a bad way because when it comes to presenting, I am more comfortable on having a stand and people come up to you and listen to you, on the other side, slideshows are just reading off the slides plus that isn’t very productive, there are also multiple pairs of overwhelming eyes looking at you which make you mess up even more. I think that I have improved a lot since the beginning of this unit, for example:in the beginning of the unit I was scared to ask questions and didn’t understand the unit very well. I am proud of how much I have improved and am very proud of how I did on the media project. The most challenging parts of this unit was the media project because I stuttered and was very stressed talking in front of a camera and friends. If I could redo this media project, I would keep practicing my presentation so I could be confident and prepared during the video taking process. For the next unit, I will try my best next unit and be more prepared.

Math Unit 1 Reflection: Proportional Relationships

I learned about proportional relationships, tables, ratios, unit rate, equations, using graphs and independent and non independent variable. I felt very confident in all of these but struggled a little bit on some tables. I didn’t understand tables and ratios at first because of how strange and unique it was. Equations stood out to me a lot because of the concept of including letters in math. When I had my first exit ticket I thought it was just a paper where we do exercises, I didn’t know it was graded and at the start of the year I couldn’t understand the questions on these exit tickets and kept getting bad grades. I think I have improved a lot and I’m slowly starting to get better and better grades on exit tickets.

Unit 1 Social Studies Visual Media Presentation

Some pieces of feedback that I got back was that I need to be more confident and know my script better when presenting my piece of media which is a TV commercial.

The things that I am proud of from this unit is that I understand most of the unit very well like identifying media types, posters, newspapers, trailers and much more.

The thing that I want I want to keep working on is being more prepared and putting maybe more effort into my projects or presentations. For the media project, I tried my best at everything but because I’m not used to talking to cameras, I stuttered a lot and forgot most of my script which disappointed me and that shows that I wasn’t confident.
