Social Studies Unit 2: Essay

The first step I went through for my CERER was finding a claim which was pretty easy but then I had to back it up with some evidence. Finding the evidence wasn’t an easy thing because I had to find evidence that related to my claim or else it would all just be false and wouldn’t backup my claim. After I found my evidence for my claim, I needed to reason which was the subject that I struggled the most in, but I eventually figured it out and told myself to not just repeat the evidence and go in depth about the evidence.

The things that I did well on this essay was the claim, because it made sense and was reasonable. The evidence to back up my claim which I was also very confident in also worked out well even if I didn’t have some specific questions answered from one article I still managed to answer the most important. For the reasoning I struggled at the start because I kept repeating and repeating the evidence which I’m not supposed to do but with the help of the teacher I learned to go more in depth and elaborate more.

I first researched about the Automobile to find an article, when I found the article, I answered the questions that I could answer. Then, I found another article to answer some of the other questions which I couldn’t answer with my previous article. For the format of my technology

I struggled a lot in speaking in front of the class mostly because I was very stressed and kept jumbling my words and getting lost in my notecards.

I think that I did well on the format of my presentation because of how much effort I put into it and how many people came to see it.

Vision Board/SMART Goal Reflection

I have made a lot of progress in math since the beginning of the year, I listened more attentively to the teacher and also asked questions frequently so that I could move on from the problem that I was stuck on, I would ask my tutor for help and he would also help me a lot by explaining the subject to me which led to me understanding the unit.

The challenges that I have encountered while trying to get better grades in math was that I always procrastinated and whenever my mom told me to study I would keep saying “in 10 minutes” which eventually led me to never study or just keep pushing it forward which was a really bad habit so I came up with a new rule for my self. Everyday, whenever I came home afterschool, I wouldn’t eat my snack until I finished my homework and my studying, this helped me a lot because the hungrier I got the more motivated I was to finish my homework and studying sessions in an efficient way. I have also faced problems such as listening in class because I kept getting distracted if I didn’t understand a question, I would either play with my pencil or my eraser and just tell my self that I could do it for homework but all that time whenever I couldn’t listen I never could actually understand the subject, which made me very sad. To overcome this problem, I came up with a solution, which was to tell myself that if I don’t listen in class or just procrastinate I won’t get better grades and won’t be successful which turned out to be motivation for me which helped me become very attentive in class.

Some insights that I may have realised is that every solution that I came up with for my problems didn’t work instantly, It always took me one week or even two to adapt to this new “rule” which first was very frustrating because I didn’t want to come back home after a long day at school then do my homework but eventually I told myself I need to do this and that its just another version of procrastinating and I am unfortunately still procrastinating a little bit

Portfolio Post about TTG Goals

I need to work on my critical thinking skills for math because whenever my teacher asks me to solve a problem in an unfamiliar way I tend to not want to do that problem or exercise because I have to do it in a different way.

My Goal: I want to accept the fact that I can solve problems with different techniques and that I need to explore more in math and not be afraid of getting my questions wrong when I’m learning a new technique or a new subject.

I think that I also need to work on my language arts effective collaborator skills because of how I’m afraid of raising my hand sometimes and getting the answer wrong.

My Goal: To be more confident in class and raise my hand even if I get the answer wrong and participate more in class.

Unit 3 Math Portfolio Post

I understood percent change, original amount/new amount, whole, percent increase/percent decrease, percent equation in maths for unit 3. I felt confident in percent increase and percent decrease because I understood it and it felt easy for me, I understood percent equations also because of how easy it was for me. I also felt it was very easy, for example when the questions were “what percent of this number is …..” or when it was “45% is 80 of what number?” I liked it a lot because it was mostly really fun and I loved the topic itself because I felt confident.

The new strategies and information that I learned in this unit was how to add tip and tax to an amount, I also learned how to calculate the percent change from an original number to a new one which seemed pretty odd to me. Percent equations were also a new strategy but it stood out for me a lot.

The topics that I found interesting about this unit was the percent decrease/ percent increase because I really found it interesting and fun to do because I understood it very well and was very confident in my math when it came to percent decrease or percent increase.

I had a very difficult time in tax, it seemed very difficult for me and I just couldn’t understand the strategy because of how it confused me. In my CFU’s whenever a tax and tip question came, I would always get it wrong, even in my summative or in my assessments which frustrated me a lot because I kept getting it wrong and each way that I tried I couldn’t get it right.

Unit 2 Collaborator portfolio post

When I was placed in table groups, I always collaborated with my classmates whenever we had group projects or had to talk about something. When we would put away our notebooks and binders I sometimes volunteer but not always but most of the time I do volunteer to clear our table. When I was asked to turn and talk to a partner I always tried to spark a conversation with the person next to me even if I didn’t know them but I still turned and talked with them quite well. When I am asked to contribute to the class I think that I contribute well but I need to start asking more questions and raising my hand more often in class to be more participative. When I worked with my partner fr the dystopian story, I always stayed focus and encouraged my partner’s idea and also included mine and we shared our opinions about our ideas. When I worked with my partner for the product branding in unit 1, we worked quite well considering that he was one of my friends, we cooperated very well and got our work done staying focused and always being on task. I would say I can get a meeting for the grade as a collaborator. To improve my collaboration I will raise my hand more and be more attentive in class.

Unit 2 Language Arts Summative

To compare the summative in unit 2 and formatives in unit 2 is that the summative felt more harder and that I had to study more compared to the formatives which was like an ordinary exercise paper. i am proud of how I did on the presentation in front of the class and that I didn’t use my notecards during the presentation. Some challenges I faced during this unit was the CERER and the conventions, I felt like I struggled a lot on both of these. I used feedback from my friends and teachers like going over lessons and just studying more in usual. If I could redo the summative, I would read the questions more carefully and should’ve studied more. The advice I would give myself is to be focused at all time and always to be sin questions in class and to study more. One of my goals is to be more focused during class and to study more.
