Unit 2 Reflection & Semester Check-In

Part 1: Unit 2 Topic A and B Test Reflection (Functions & Statistics)

A. Evidence of Your Best Thinking

Select two questions from your Unit 2 test that best show your thinking.

  1. I chose Question 5 as evidence of my best thinking because this question demonstrates the ability to give others effective answers and hints to correct their answer, since thats what the questions has required us to do so.
  1. I chose Question 4 as evidence of my best thinking because I was able to make interpretations effectively using the data from the scatter plot given from the question, also interpreting the different sections of the function.

B. Skills Reflection

Complete each sentence honestly and thoughtfully.

  1. Throughout Unit 2, I improved the most at learning functions.
  1. One skill from this unit that I still need to work on is critical thinking.
  1. The biggest challenge for me on this assessment was the critical thinking section.
  1. One strategy that helped me on this test was to read through each question carefully.

Part 2: Goal Reflection & End-of-Semester Check-In

B. End-of-Semester Self Reflection

  1. List three strengths you have shown last semester:
    • Able to calculate large numbers
    • Able to analyze graphs and scatter plots
    • Able to analyze functions
  1. List three areas you still want to improve:
    • Reading the questions more carefully
    • Writing a legible handwriting
    • Explaining the process of “How I got the answer?”

C. New Academic Goal Moving Forward

Complete all parts:

  1. In the next unit I want to understand the concepts in that unit and use it properly and also for extentions.
  1. What might get in the way of this goal?

I might not be able to persevere through the more challenging questions.

  1. What will I do if I get stuck or need help?

Ask the teacher or search it online.

Designing a Story Problem

  1. the story was about a video game name minecraft, and then main character having to build and breakdown a house. It modeled the time that requires to break and build a house and also the amount of blocks required.
  2. The part of the project I am most proud of is when I have started to calculate the different aspects of the functions, for example the slope, the y-intercept.
  3. The hardest part was to analyze the different sections of the graph, such as what the meaning of the increasing rate in the functions mean, what the decreasing rate meant, what the constant rate meant.
  4. I would improve on the functions part to calculate the different aspects like the slope and the y-intercept more efficiently.
  5. This project let me understand how different piecewise functions are compared to the normal linear functions.

Unit 3 Health Reflection

The main important ideas that we learnt was the different types of communication, how to maintain a healthy relationship, and sexual harassment. Regarding communication, we learnt about passive communication, assertive communication, and manipulative communication. Passive is only considering others feelings while speaking with others, assertive is considering both you and the other side, while manipulative is you only considering yourself. Regarding how to maintain a healthy relationship, we would want to respect each others boundaries and how to effectively communicate with them. Regarding sexual harassment, its when you say, act, or do something sexual to the other side which makes them feel uncomfortable or an assertion of dominance over the other.

Project:

This main function of the project is to understand the relationship between Jim and Pam in the show “The Office”. This mainly adresses how they have effective communication, gaining consent, and how they can work together and support each others work.

Swimming Unit

During the swimming unit, I have learnt more about how to play water polo, the basic rules and some basic strategies learnt throughout the progress of playing water polo. I have also learnt more about elementary backstroke, how you are supposed to swim that style.

One thing that I am proud of is how I am able to play water polo effectively. The strategies I have learnt throughout this process was immense and how basic rules of water polo works. The majority of the times that I was playing water polo was being the goalie, and I was able to guard the balls effectively.

One thing that I need to continue to work upon is the skill of being to able to make a great strategy on how to play water polo effectively. The majority of my team during the water polo was on offense, leaving me just there guarding the goal, which was a large burden to me. Despite being able to guard the majority of the balls away, the lack of defense was able to shred through our defense with ease.

Health Unit 2 Reflection

I used to think that mental health is something that shouldn’t be a major factor upon daily lives, since I thought this wasn’t a major factor. This was a emphasis of people for a few of my friends, but I have never really considered this really seriously as a major issue that should be emphasized upon. I thought that a few of these are mainly being the people who has been reported more, such as the people who get PTSD are mainly war veterans who have to kill another person because the other person was joking with him. This was also a major misconception in ED, since I thought that many of the cases reported were females who was trying to stay “fit” or “perfect”. These impacted the first few thoughts about mental health.

I now think after watching these videos that there are many different types of people who can get these people on PTSD, such as women, they are a majority of people who has PTSD. Or ED, males also have a dangerous rising curve of people who have ED, which isn’t a great sign either. This changed because I watched others video about mental health issues. This surprised me since I considered only a few people having PTSD. These examples contains about a few men getting really fat because of ED. My learning can also effect others because I can tell them the media portrayals or the stigmas of a certain mental illness and it would shape their understanding to a certain mental illness is great.

Video: (For PTSD)

After making the video, we also took notes on the different types of mental health disorder. Notes are shown below:

This helped with the learning about other types of mental health disorders that I used to have major misconceptions upon.

French Oral

I read a short story about the twins war and what has happened between them.

I just crammed a bunch of words into my brain about the vocabulary.

I wrote the keywords down. It was fairly challenging since I aimed for a 4.

I should probably improve on a few of my vocabulary usage.

I am proud that I could explain the story really well and I could probably understand the conjugation of the verbs better.

Reflection of Unit 1

In this unit, we have mainly covered two topics : Teaching an alien how to speak english, and to deliver an example to the topic that we have chosen for our independent time.

This is one of the things I have done, which is to annotate the small paragraph that the alien has generated. I have done fairly well on annotating the tones of what the alien is talking, by explaining connotation and denotation. By using this, I have learnt more about my language usage. For example, where I could put my prepositions, it could be between a sentence, at the end of the sentence, or at the start of the sentence. This helped me improve my structures of my sentence.

There’s an app for that!

Hypothesis : By using the app, I would be able to remember the different items I need a solution on.

This app would help me to jot down my thoughts about specific problems, such as stress management, which would help me to figure out a good solution to that problem and not forget it because I have written it down.

I would wish to be able to solve small issues like forgetting to do my homework and to solve big issues like to think about whether I am morally correct on an issue or not. I would be not forgetting to do a lot of tasks or to remind me to stop procrastinating about a certain object.

My wish for doing this project is to have gain independence on solving problems. When I first started, I was really bad at remembering certain solutions or coping strategies, but when I started putting down the notes I have, I start remembering the different situations and the different coping strategies.

PART 2:
Functionality:

The apps features is to let you write down the different plans you can brainstorm of to find an accurate solution. The features I use the most is to just write down the different notes. The actual description just tells you that its an app to write down notes so it isn’t a scam. The apps could not be able to remind you, but I will regularly checking it anyway.

Usefulness:

The wellness metric I have set in part one is to understand how to solve the problems independently and remember how to solve these problems. By using obsidian, this has increased the memory of my solutions for particular questions.

My hypothesis was supported by evidence because I was able to reach my goal that I have required, such as reminding me of the solution that I made to apply that the other types of solutions.

The different types of people could use this differently, such as for the people who crave for writing purposes, they could jot their ideas down on the app, so they won’t forget it, or for the people who like to have a very compact lifestyle, such as want to doing everything as fast as possible, you could remember things easily by using this app.

Design:

The app is a beneficial app, since it doesn’t use rewards or anything similar to that, or pop ups, its very simple to use it easily and not get distracted from as much as you want.

This app doesn’t make money, considering that it is free to use or to even download, which makes it very accessible for most people as long as they have a computer to use for the app.

Building healthy habits depends on yourself on how to use this app, whether you want this place to convey your emotions or remember things or to set a goal, it is really up to you.

Unit 1 Health Reflection

  1. Learning brain science has improved my thoughts about what is happening inside my brain and the various different coping strategies for my behavior.
  2. The most surprising thing I learnt is about the high reward system in the brain for teenagers.
  3. This would help with the teenagers to cope with their future better with the adults and have made connections with the teenagers to have more communication efficiency.
  4. The stress management methods would probably include things such as taking breaks between large work periods, or taking deep breaths when you feel really stressed.
  5. When you feel stressed, your amygdala triggers the FFF, which causes the hippocampus to let out a hormone called cortisol, which could cause distress and the PFC not able to react to situations, causing the brain to tense up your muscles and cause you to function badly. The parasympathetic nervous system is causing the body to react normally, which the sympathetic one causes the brain to have an FFF situation. The teenagers’ brain develops from front to back, which would cause a high risk high reward system.`
