Unit 4 Dystopian fiction reflection

What did I learn about dystopian fiction? I learned all about what dystopian fiction is and different aspects of it. I also learned about different ways to interpret dystopian fiction and think outside the box about some things in dystopian fiction.

How does dystopian fiction invite me to think about real life? Dystopian fiction helps me think about real life by having me think outside the box and allowing me to interpret dystopian fiction and real life in different ways, like looking at the differences, the disadvantages, and advantages of things, and question things in our society vs dystopian society.

I enjoyed the giver, because I think it was very interesting and intrigued me to know what happens next in the book, and I like seeing characters progress, like Jonas. Also, I think the giver is very complicated and has lots of details and stuff everywhere, which I like. Another reason that I like the giver was because I like stuff about dystopian places.

How have I improved my ability to write academic paragraphs? I have improved my ability to write academic paragraphs by doing my commonlit assignments and learning how to implement different things like ending sentences and use proper academic paragraph writing techniques and format to write academic paragraphs.

How am I better now interacting with others in literature discussions? I am now better at interacting with others in literature discussions than before because I used to either contribute nothing to the literature discussion, staying quiet and not contributing much or I would either be overly enthusiastic about it and blurt out things and interrupt people when they are trying to speak, but now I speak better. Also, I can validate people now.

PE soccer reflection.

What did we learn? I learned how to dribble a ball properly and we did drills on control. We also learned how to pass and use the different sides of our foot.

What helped? Things that helped was the drills because I could control the ball much better when I did the drills since I could practice and hone my skills.

What is something I am proud of? I am proud of learning how to dribble and control the ball better. I am also proud of actually contributing to my team during games instead of just standing there.

What is something I can work in? I can still work on my aim and shooting because I sometimes miss the ball or shoot really weak shots.

Unit 2 Otzi portfolio reflection

  1. What did I work on?
  1. During this unit, ‘Why should we care about the past?’, I worked on
  1. Making observations, inferences and wonderings
  1. Using photos and articles as evidence
  1. Writing a CER paragraph
  1. Asking and answering open and closed questions
  1. Taking part in the Otzi Mock Trial, my role was being an expert witness and answering questions that the lawyers asked.
  1. What did I learn? Why should we care about the past?
  1. We should care about the past because we can learn all sorts of things such as the origin of humans and culture, how prehistoric people lived, and the similarities and differences of the world back then compared to now.
  1. What worked well?
  1. I am proud of the following work: My participation in the mock trial
  1. I am proud of the work above because I have never been in a mock trial before, and I have also never been an expert witness before, so I was proud of being able to do it successfully.
  1. What did not work well?
  1. I found some of this work challenging, such as thinking of questions that the lawyers might ask,
  1. I found the work above challenging because since I didn’t have any prior experience, I did not know at all what questions the lawyers might ask me.
  1. Personal Relevance
  1. Collaboration and communications skills are important in my future because I have to learn how to communicate and collaborate effectively to do all sorts of things, like collaborating and communicating with others in the workplace.
  1. This is a photo of my work as an expert witness

Swimming reflection

During this swimming unit, we learned about snorkeling and how to snorkel. We learned about things like snorkeling, hand signals, and how to get in the water properly when you are on the beach or on a boat. I did well on being able to snorkel and get into the water properly. What was challenging was that I often forget the hand signals or to do the hand signals when I get into the water. This is important and relevant because I can be able to snorkel in the ocean in the future which means I can see the underwater life and stuff.

Egg car reflection

What did I do? We built a car that had to protect an egg when it rolled down from a ramp onto some bricks. The criteria was that it had to protect the egg by preventing it by breaking or cracking.

What did I learn? We can see Newton’s first law in motion when the egg car gets stopped by the bricks, the egg wants to keep moving forward and force is still there so it cracks. We can also see Newton’s third law in motion when the egg car crashed into the bricks, it exerted back an equal and opposite reaction meaning we had to use a crumple zone or airbag to absorb that force.

What worked? Our egg did not crack both times we did the test, meaning that the airbag worked well and worked to protect the egg by absorbing some of the force that was exerted back.

What did not work? Our car was so unstable that every single time we tested it it would fall over to it’s side and it got disqualified because the egg car had to be rolling not sliding on it’s side like ours did. to fix this I would make the car less tall and longer to prevent it from toppling over.

Personal relevance I now know that we need a crumple zone that can absorb lots of force and an airbag to be able to protect passengers in a car.

Balloon car

What did I do? We built a car using different materials powered by balloons and we used them to investigate Newton’s laws of motion by putting weights on them and testing how far they went.

What did I learn? I learned how this is connected to Newton’s laws of motion and how I can apply it. For example, Newton’s second law applies to this because when we put more weights, the less distance it traveled, proving Newton’s second law of motion.

What worked? What worked was that we were able to successfully build and investigate using the balloon car and we were able to connect it with Newton’s laws.

What did not work? What did not work was that our car kept swerving off the path and drifting under tables, which means it did not travel very far. Furthermore, our car was also extremely weak and fragile, because we never filled the balloon up with enough air and the parts of the car kept falling off.

Personal Relevance: The car connects to the real world because it relates to Newton’s laws, and Newton’s laws are important because they explain how things work in the world and the balloon car can show how they work.

French reflection

What was the task? The task we did was we had to make a presentation about a francophone country.

What did you choose to research and why did you pick this country? I picked Algeria because when I searched francophone countries, algeria was the one that caught my attention and nobody else was doing it so I did it

Some things I mentioned was the location on the map, it’s capital city, the description of the flag, the national day, and more.

The feedback Ms Inna gave was that the country I chose was creative and I should use Femme and Homme next time to mention the nationality.

I am proud of being able to do everything in french and my project and I can improve on making it include a bit more information.

Art: What I am proud of

A piece that I am proud of is my cardboard piece, which is supposed to be an abandoned car. I made it by cutting cardboard parts and then gluing and connecting them together. I am proud of the piece because I was able to successfully finish it and even was able improvise on it even though I thought I would run out of time. Something I discovered when making this artwork is that you don’t have do have a full plan before making an artwork, since I got the idea for an abandoned car spontaneously while I was trying to make a normal car or something else.

Creative Writing Rflection

What are we doing? Writing a fictional story based on a theme that matters to me.

What are we learning? Theme (my purpose for writing this story, my message to readers) Character Development (creating believable characters with positive & negative traits. Plot (the sequence of events in my story; Western and Eastern approaches to storytelling)

Setting (the world that I create for my story)

What’s working? What story elements did you enjoy planning and writing? I enjoyed the part where I got to write the story because it felt good writing the story and being creative and I had lots of ideas by then. What elements of my story are you proud of? Some elements of my story that I am proud of is the plot because it feels good writing the story with a plot I came up with. How did you get the idea for your story? I got the idea of my story from the story I wrote last year because I wanted to make a sequel to the story I wrote last year. The Best Line from My Story: “It had been 200 years since the great war, and the empire was healing greatly.”

Areas for Growth:What story elements were challenging to plan and write? I had a hard time coming up with the character traits of my characters because I didn’t really know what they would be like. How did you deal with these challenges? I thought of some character traits that would match with the plot of the story. What is your least favorite part of the story? My least favorite part of the story is the ending because I did not really get to write a clear ending. Why does it bother you? It bothers me because I want to be able to finish the story with a clear ending about what happens.

Personal Relevance.

How can creative writing help you in real life? Creative writing can help me have some fun when I am bored because I like using my imagination and being able to write stories about what I want. Do you enjoy creative writing – would you possibly like to continue using your imagination to tell stories that matter to you? I enjoy creative writing a lot and I think I do like to write stories with my imagination.

Volleyball unit reflection PE

  1. I first toss the ball up in the air, then I swing and hit it with my other hand. I feel like I did the tossing and hitting part the best.
  2. I used a lot of force and I locked my elbows and I aimed it at where I want to hit it to be able to hit it where I want.
  3. I could not hit it across the net most of the time, so I had to exert a lot of force to finally be able to get it across the net.
  4. When I lock my elbow, it can help me get the ball across the net and make my move better.
  5. I can practice making my right arm stronger to be able to hit it across the net easier without making it hurt.
