I have made progress towards my goal because I have read more books this year and I tried different types, not just realistic fiction books. The steps that I took were reading more pages per day, and rereading parts to make sure I didn’t just skim over the page.
Sometimes when I finish a series, I always have trouble finding the next good book to read, which was the main challenge I had throughout the semester. I overcame this challenge by asking my friends for book recommendations or online for specific genre books that have high reviews. I also would use this plan for the future, because after I finish the next 5 books in my book list, I would run out of books again.
Reading mostly dystopian and sci-fi books, I have gained many insights since this wasn’t a genre I would choose to read casually, so I have definitely learned more things. It influenced my goal because I now have more books to read.
When I was placed on new table groups, which may include people who might be my enemies, mostly I would be a little unhappy, but I will still be nice and talk to them during discussions. Our table decided that the last person should put the books away everytime, so just to be fair, we always remind that person to put it so they don’t leave and forget. When I was asked to turn and talk, I usually stay on topic, but after we finish talking, I might sometimes talk about something else. During class discussions, I don’t really raise my hand to talk, but I do when I have questions mostly. When my partner and I were working on product branding, I believe I have done most of the work, but I worked pretty well with her overall. For the dystopian story, I had the same partner, and she was busy working on PTC work, so I did most of the visuals. I also collaborated with other groups to perform for the skit that they made.
I would probably give myself somewhere between Approaching – Meeting (2.5) because I’m a little bit quiet? during discussions, but I don’t really get distracted and I do my work on time. I think another student in class would describe the same thing because they can tell during class. I would participate more in class discussions next semester and maybe answer more questions.
How do you think you did on your summatives compared to your formatives?
I think I did a bit better, since I got all meetings for the formative and one exceeding for a particular part of the summatives. Compared to the quality of my formatives, not considering grades, overall I think I did pretty well.
What are you proud of?
I am proud of getting one exceeding on the story outline and round flat static dynamic test. I’m also proud of almost getting the conventions 100% correct, although I put an extra period.
What were some challenges for you?
Some challenges that I faced were using quotes in quotes for the first time. I didn’t really know how to do that at first, and I didn’t really use it for any formatives. Although I put an extra period, this was a challenged that I persevered through. A big challenge, specially, that I faced was realizing that my whole pitch presentation did not work, so I made a temporary one in 20 minutes. This was absolutely the number one challenge and obstacle that I faced in this unit, so as a result, I was too nervous and maybe relied too much on my notecards.
How effectively did you use feedback?
I used feedback from the formative assessments, although they were pretty specific, but I used them to help me for future assessments. I also got feedback on the pitch that we did.
If you could redo the summative assessment, what changes would you make?
I would absolutely look at the rubric so much, because I did not follow the order that we had to in the pitch presentation, which resulted me changing my whole script and having to memorize it without practicing in front of other people. I would try to avoid that next class.
What advice would you give yourself for Unit 3?
As said previously, I would look at the rubric so I could avoid careless mistakes. I would also try to be more enthusiastic.
Set one goal for future work.
For the future, I would manage my time better, and ask more questions, to clarify and to prevent mistakes when if I get any approachings in the future.
