PE Reflections

Swimming:

In the swimming unit, we first learned how to snorkel, learned how to dive, we also learned the beach entry. When we first learned how to snorkel, I really struggled with how to breath with my mouth and with my nose been blocked, but after some practice, I already could snorkel better and snorkel in the water longer. When we learned how to dive, we had to jump into the water after the count of one, the first time I was still a bit scared, I was afraid of stepping into the water, but after the first time, I had more confidence, and I enjoyed the feeling of stepping into the water. When we learned the beach entry, we found our partner first, then we had to help each other wear the flipper and the snorkel, after we step into the water together, in this unit, everything went well, i’m not struggling with anything. Throughout the unit, I improved on my Freestyle, Backstroke, and Breaststroke, now I could swim faster. And I also improved snorkelling, dive and beach entry since I don’t know how to do these before.

Badminton:

In the badminton unit, even though I didn’t learn anything because my dad basically taught me about it, I still improved on how to serve and smash. Now that I know how to serve a short shot and long shot, and when to use them. I also learned how to do a short/small smash, long and quick shot. At the begging of the unit, I still struggle a little about the serve without having the ball in the air and shoot it, but now I can do all type of serve.

Unit 2 Otzi Unit Portfolio Reflection

What did I work on?

During this unit, ‘Why should we care about the past?’, I worked on

  • Making observations, inferences and wonderings
  • Using photos and articles as evidence
  • Writing a CER paragraph
  • Asking and answering open and closed questions
  • Taking part in the Otzi Mock Trial, my role was defense lawyer 3

What did I learn? Why should we care about the past?

We should care about the past because…

      • It helps us learn about the present and how we got here.
      • It helps us understand the past and change the future.

      What worked well?

        • I am proud of the questions that I asked the expert witness #7 and #8 for the Mock trial (because I am the lawyer), the research that I did when I was preparing for the Mock trial and all the things that happened throughout the mock trial.
        • I am proud of the work above because I wrote the questions very specific and easy to understand. Secondly, I did a great job throughout the Mock Trial asking questions.

        What did not work well?

          • I found making the predictions of the questions a bit hard.
          • I found the work above challenging because I can’t really predict what they are going to say after my questions, and what their perspective of the question is.

          Personal Relevance

            • Collaboration and communications skills are important in my future because then in the future when I start collaborating with other people throughout the whole world it will be easier for me and more fun for me.

This is a photo of the research I did…

              Egg Car

              What did I do?

We used 3 piece of paper, 4 wheels, 4 straws, 2 axel, and 1 meter tape.

              What did I learn?

I learned Newton’s first and third law during this test. The first law was shown when the car was at rest it stays at rest, and when the car is in motion it stays in motion, unless acted by another force. And when we push the car, the car no longer stay in rest, but when the car hit the wall, it no longer stay in motion, the wall forced it to stop.

And for the third law, every action have a equal amount of reaction. it’s shown when the car is in motion it’s a action, but when the car hit the wall the reaction is when the car bounces a bit and stops.

              What worked?

The egg car went down perfectly when we tested it. The egg didn’t fall out and it was safe in the car. We built a seat belt for the egg car and also built something like a bowl to protect the egg from not coming out. At last in the real test, the egg didn’t flew out but…

              What did not work?

The egg car always went down perfectly without the egg coming out, but we forgot the purpose is not to let the egg come out and also not letting the egg crack. We only thought that the egg won’t go out, so we didn’t do any protection for the egg to not crack. At last the egg was a bit broken, but it didn’t went out!!!

              Personal Relevance?

It’s really important to know Newtons laws, and by this experiment, we basically used Newton’s first and third law. I also learned Newtons laws better based on this experiment.

              Balloon Car

The Balloon Car was built using 1 piece of cardboard, 4 wheels, 2 straws, 1 balloon and tape. We used it to learn about Newton’s first, second and third law. Every law worked with the balloon car and all were represented.

Newton’s first law is law of Inertia, if an object stays at rest it still stays at rest, if an object is in motion it stays in motion, unless acted by another force. We see this law in action with the Balloon Car when we put the Balloon car on the ground nothing happens, unless we pump air in it.

Newton’s second law is F=Ma, force equals mass times acceleration. We see this law in action with the Balloon Car when we pumped air (mass) in it the Balloon car and when it goes forward.

Newton’s third law is action and reaction, for every action there is an equal reaction. We see this law in action with the Balloon Car when we pumped air in the balloon, and the balloon car goes forward when the air is released out of the balloon.

The Balloon Car worked well because the car can go forward and the balloon didn’t pop. We didn’t had to change a balloon or anything. Everything worked well with our balloon car at the end.

It was a struggle at first with the balloon, we couldn’t blow up the balloon, and the car wouldn’t go forward because there is no air to get released. Also at first the card board was too big, that causes our balloon car a bit heavy, and it won’t go forwards. To solve these problems, we had to cut of some pieces of the cardboard to let it lose weigh. And at last we used the pumper to blow the balloon and it worked!

The Balloon Car was like an real car in the world when I pumped in the air and released it, it actually went forward. Newton’s third law in real life is when, I roll the bowling ball toward the water bottle, the water bottle will fall if the ball hits it. It is important to know these Laws because it helps us in the world to learn.

              Orchestra Reflection

The songs are all easy for me and really nice and beautiful. I would have to work on my bow hold. I think my collaboration skills with Maddie are very very very very gooooooooooood!

              Creative writing reflection

              What are we doing?

Writing a fictional story based on a theme that matters to me.

              What are we learning?

Theme (my purpose for writing this story, my message to readers)

Character Development (creating believable characters with positive & negative traits)

Plot (the sequence of events in my story; Western and Eastern approaches to storytelling)

Setting (the world that I create for my story)

              What’s working?

I enjoyed writing when Evelyn and Ellie betrayed Madison and decided to pushed her towards the tiger and ran away. But happily Madison helped the tiger, so the tiger helped Madison get out of the forest and got revenge. I got my idea when I was thinking about them going on an adventure, but after that I thought it will be a bit too boring without an bad part, so I decided to let Madison’s besties betray her. But if the main character got lost then I have nothing to write about, so I wrote that Madison helped the tiger so the tiger helped her get revenge. My best line is: “W… Why are you here, aren’t you supposed to be lost in the forest? Also, why is that tiger beside you?”

“Why not? Now I am going to go back, and I will never trust you again in my whole entire life! In addition, I won’t bring you guys back! Also, bye! I mean bye forever.”

That was when Madison is sent back to the entrance of the forest and met her two besties, (and got revenge).

              Areas for more growth.

Next time I would want to improve on y grammar a bit more, and also write more details in the story. The least favorite part for me in my story is when, Madison trusted Evelyn and Ellie and went in the adventure. That’s because Madison already know they are going to trap her there but still trusted them (I have to write that because it is part of my theme).

              Personal Relevance.

It can help me improve my writing skills and let me be more creative. I really enjoy creative writing because I get to write what ever I want and I can be creative in my story.

Art (What I am proud of)

This is my pinch pot, I’m proud of this because I think this is my best looking project, I also went through many processes, like first making the pot out, smoothing the surface, glazing it, and coloring it, after all of that this comes out!

I learned that when you are making a pinch pot or any thing using clay, you are not suppose to smooth the cracks by using water, not putting glaze on the bottom or else…

              Critical thinking

I played with Indi (the robot) and the Gravi Tracks. For the Gravi Tracks I need to make a path for the ball to go through and get to the land point. We connected different tracks with each other and figured out how long, how high, it should be to make it work.

With Indi, I learned that changing the color of the mats underneath will tells it where to go. The challenge was figuring out which color to use after the other colors in place. For example, if we placed a green mat, we could predict its path and then choose the next color that made sense to complete the path.

Sometimes when I’m building the track for Gravi Tracks, it might be too long, too high, too short or even too low! I had to adjust the tracks again and again to make it connect and work. But after all the adjustment everything will work!

Today’s learning was very interesting and fun. Having fun building the tracks, making the paths, was all really interesting. We used our critical thinking skills a lot in today’s lesson.

              Unit 1 Olympic Portfolio Reflection

              1. What did I work on?
              1. During this unit, Campaign for the Olympics, I worked on a pitch and persuade script to convince the IOC member to choose my host country. Toronto to host the 2032 summer Olympics. I worked on my presentation skills, and I created note cards to help me memorize my script. I created a Canva presentation and used SAS Databases images. I used the SAS Databases to complete my research about Toronto. I used the class persuasive sentence starters to make my speech very persuasive.
              1. What did I learn? Why do global sporting events exist?
              1. Global sporting events exist to bring people together and help people celebrate different cultures through sports. Thay increase the economy, they show case host country’s culture and are a positive influence in the world.
              1. What worked well?
              1. I am proud of how I designed my logo, using flint and the AI the first time, how I wrote my not cards and memorized it etc.
              1. I am proud of the things above because for the logo I converted the maple leaf and the Olympic flame together, knowing how to use the AI, and making neat notecards and memorizing them.
              1. What did not work well?
              1. I found some things challenging, they were trying to memorize the whole script and ended up only memorizing the logo design, first according to Britannica and the conclusion.
              1. I found the things above challenging because there were too many things to memorize so I could only memorize the three parts.
              1. Personal Relevance
              1. Collaboration and communications skills are important in my future because I will still have to collaborate with many people.
              1. This is a photo of my work about….
