Creative Learner
While working on my creative learner task, in which I had chosen to ask the question of rewriting a fairytale in modern times, I encountered a block in my motivation. I wasn’t able to find a good fairytale to base a story off of. Each fairy tale I had encountered brought me to stories that were boring at best. And so, I met with a friend named Eric Jiale Song and we decided to do this task together. Eric had decided to write about Cinderella whilst I had chosen Little Red Riding Hood. We wrote together, I didn’t need to know what Eric was writing, just writing with a friend was enough. After finishing his writing, Eric left me, he had wrote only a paragraph’s worth of a story, while I had written a chapter, dialogue and all. After a little while, I had also finished my story and was able to show it to Ms. Harris. This task taught me how to have patience because creativity takes time and I shouldn’t rush things for a grade. Eric went on to lose his story and his 30 minutes of writing.
Critical Thinking
During critical thinking, I personally believe me and my partners in the tasks we did were pathetic at best. The task I would like to talk about though, was the “That’s Outlandish” task. I did it with my friend, Eric, and we decided to try to convince Ms. Harris that Earth was flat. Emphasis on try. Eric and I, with no preparation beforehand, attempted the task. And so we went to Ms. Harris and tried to convince her that the Earth was flat. We gave her 0 evidence and had not prepared an argument other than, it looks flat. From this experience, I learnt that proper preparation prevents poor performance. Because me and Eric didn’t prepare, we ended up improvising.
Resilience
For resilience, I decided to do a mindfulness walk. I first went on a 2 minute stroll outside the learning lab, thinking about what I would write for the activity. Once I came back, Ms. Harris told me to redo the mindfulness walk and take time with it. So then I went back outside and took a real mindfulness walk. I went through and walked all over the campus, even going to the elementary school. After walking for well more than 10 minutes, I decided to retrace my steps, as I slowly walked backed to the learning lab. So I headed up the stairs, but by the time I finally went up and wrote a reflection, the class was over. I had wasted the initial time I had trying to skip the walk and now I had missed my chance. This taught me how I should do everything genuinely without finding the easy way out, learning that some things require actual care.
Communication
There wasn’t a really memorable story for this one, but I was able to work on a presentation for a game that I really liked. It was the first ever task I did. And while my friend was doing the easier tasks that got him 60 points in just a few minutes, I was doing something that I actually enjoyed. I was having fun researching the topic and creating the slides on the gameplay and all the characters, because this was my actual passion. So after 3 days or so, I finished my presentation and got the 60 points, but I was also able to do something fun for learning lab
Collaboration
In this one, I decided to work with my table and do the Silent Murder Mystery. The first time we tried this, we were promptly denied because Ms. Harris wasn’t in class and she was the only person who knew where the materials need were. After a week, we asked again and started the activity. There were two halves on the table, one with me and Bitchan working together, and the other with Eric and Daniel. I’m unsure what those two were doing, but Bitchan and I were working hard on the mystery, sorting the texts and trying to find a coherent story. Once we ended the activity, we were able to solve the mystery. This showed me that collaboration and teamwork was important.
