The future is not something to predict

Integrated Mathematics 8 Semester 1

Active Learner Habits

One strength I bring to math class is my organizational skills, with organizing my homework and notes I take in class. Another skill is that I am able to collaborate with my table-mates. Even when I think that my answer is wrong, I still express my answer in class. A third strength I bring is my listening skills, like when my table-mates say this answer, I note it down, and I respect what they say.

Area of Growth
One habit I want to improve this semester is having neater notes in class. This is an area of growth for me because if I have neater notes it would be easier for me to go back and look at my notes when I am studying.

Plan for Growth
I will work on this habit by writing or organizing my notes into Cornell Notes. Which would impact me to have neater and easier notes to read. One specific action I will take is finding a method to take notes for my learning or studying.

Math Notation and Communication

  • Take at least one photo of an early math notebook example.

  • Take at least one photo of a later math notebook example that shows improvement.
    later math notebook.jpg
In my later math notebook, my use of color increased, and I think it became neater. Also, at first, my earlier notebook was messy, but I could still understand. This new page of the notebook was much more cleaner, since I used different type of colors in it.

Evidence of Understanding of Key Concepts

Choose two examples of your math learning that highlight your strengths and growth.

Sticker Project P2.jpg

This example shows that I understand since my work presents my thoughts and step it took for me to solve my problem. One strength in this work is the simple, but including all the criteria’s pictures that I drafted. This work also shows my growth in improvement, since I think I think if I spent more time drafting my final product would be better and I think it would have more detail.

PE: Badminton Unit Reflection

Throughout this unit, I learned how to improve my drop shot. A drop shot is a soft tap that barely clears the net and lands near the opponent’s side. It takes practice, touch, and good timing. I can control the pace and placement to make it hard for them to return. I also learned about movement and formations. Movement is how I move my feet to get in the best position. Formations are the patterns we use as a team to cover the court. Good movement helps me reach the ball, and smart formations help us work together.

Unit 2 Reflection & Semester Check-In

Evidence of Your Best ThinkingI chose part A of Question 5 as evidence of my best thinking because I think I explained one thing that Vicente did well and one thing he could have done better. An example is that I wrote something he did well was putting them in clusters with both sides having 4 points or an equal amount of points. Also, something that he didn’t do as well was to split it to a negative association. I chose part C of Question 5 as evidence of my best thinking because I explained and described a residual plot for the data that might look like. Throughout Unit 2, I improved the most at finding function inside of questions. One skill from this unit that I still need to work on is more in statistics. The biggest challenge for me on this assessment was statistics. One strategy that helped me on this test was being calm before the test. I think looking at my new goal for this new year is being more organized and being more prepared before testing times.

Unit 2 Design a Story Problem

My story was about Emma going skiing in the mountains, and the skiing began at the top, then going down, and then went straight down in just 5 minutes. When she reached the bottom of the hill, she went back up but only took her 6 minutes.

I think the part of the project that I am most proud of is the story I wrote. This was because I think I could really relate to my story about skiing.

I think the hardest part of creating my piecewise function would be the explanation, since I think solving it wouldn’t be the biggest problem, and that I think the problem is with the explanation in it.

I think if I could revise one part of this would be adding more detail to the graph. Since I think it wasn’t that detailed on the y-axis. With the lines and the slow, such as the timing Emma spent.

I think this project helped me understand it better since normally we as students answer the teacher’s questions, and this time we make our own questions. Which causes us to learn it in our own way.

    Unit 2: Biological Evolution Reflection

This poster is about how living things change over time (Biological Evolution). I learned that evolution happens slowly and in many small steps, not all at once. The Earth gets resources, and some animals survive better than others. The ones that survive pass their traits to their babies. Over many generations, these small changes can make new species. The idea of natural selection helps explain why some animals are better suited to their environment. The pictures helped me see ideas like predators, adaptation, and how new traits spread. If I had more time, I’d add real examples (like the peppered moth) to make it even clearer. Overall, this topic shows how life on Earth is connected and always changing.

    PE (Swimming and Soccer)

I think I improved in both things that we did such as swimming and soccer. I improved in my kicking and in my swimming I improved on my蛙泳 and learned things such as Water Polo. I think Water Polo wasn’t fun since I nearly drowned because we had to tread water for 10 minutes. Something that I improved in Soccer was passing and shooting the goals.

    L3-Prendre rendez vous/ take appointement

The activity that I did was the “Prendre rendez-vous,” which was about where we sat down with the teacher and talked about the problems you have and what time you are free, and what time the teacher/ doctor is available.

The feedback the teacher gave was that I had no issues with running through the whole conversation and I could read the phone number.

French:  LA GUERRE DES JUMEAUX (ORAL)

In French class, we covered a unit on reading and speaking, and I think this unit was okay. However, the only part that I found challenging was creating our own notes based on the pictures the teacher provided.

One way I practice my notes is by starting with Quizlet, then writing the English words and their corresponding Chinese meanings, finally the words in french.

First, as a class, the teacher gave us the whole story, and we read it as a class with chapters 1-2. Finally, the teacher told the class that we had a quiz at the end about retelling the whole story. A way I prepared for my test was that first I found the words that I didn’t know and studied them, then wrote notes about them. Finally, when it was the test day, before the test, I had looked at the notes that I had written.

Mrs. Inna gave me comments about what I prepared, new sentences, but I didn’t quite get the pronunciation in some words, which I still need to improve on.

Comment:You did a good job Angela not reading too much your notes. I can see you prepared but you are making new sentences reusing vocabulary learned in this book. I think you go too too fast. You need to take your time when you speak, there is no need to rush. Your pronunciation improved but there are still some words you can practice. You also need to work on conjugating the verbs.

Something I am proud of is that I wasn’t reading from my notebook directly, and I had also prepared my notes. I think next time I would want to keep working on my pronunciation and conjugating the verbs.

    Science Semester 1 Active Learner

    Active_Learner_Science_Rubric_August_2025.xlsx

Something I am proud of in science is that I can complete most of the assignments that were assigned to me, and I can also collaborate with my table-mate. I can also find a time to talk with my teacher and understand the best time for me.

The biggest challenge in class is contributing to group work, as I tend not to raise my hand in class discussions. However, in mini-group talks, I can engage with my group and share my thoughts, but I still struggle to raise my hand in class to answer questions. Another is sometime understanding a concept which will lead me to talking with the teachers. As you can see in the preparing for a 3 for 3 quiz I have some trouble which had made me give myself an approaching.

I have demonstrated the qualities of an Active learner by being prepared before class, bringing my notebook and all the other materials. I also stay positive and collaborative.

As I’ve already said, the spots I want to improve on are being more prepared before class, like being prepared for the 3 for 3 that we have, since sometimes I get 2’s on 3 for 3.

    L4 Summative Assessment: Ice Sculpture

On October 6, 2025, I completed a summative assessment on the song we will be performing in the Winter concert, titled “Ice Sculpture.” I think I reached my goal for a 3 since in this song during the formative I had needed to work on the bow hold and how to play with more dynamics. Even if after the summative I have worked on the Bow hold and got a good grade, but I still need to work on the dynamics inside of it.
