My Sketchbook Cover: 8th Grade Art

My sketchbook cover is not finished but it represents me by the big and small drawings on it. For example, the heart shows kindness, I think that kindness is a big part of someone’s personality because there’s so many ways to show kindness and even small things can make such a difference in someone’s day.

The roots that come out of the heart are representing my family and where I come from, I value family so much and it’s a big part of my life. Along with the flowers growing is supposed to show how I want to grow to be a better person in general like having a better mindset.

The paw prints represent my dogs or animals in general, I really love animals especially dogs, I’ve been around dogs my whole life and they are so special to me and this love for animals has caused me to want to be a vet when I grow up.

The skeleton hand is a work in progress.

Art Final Year Reflection

My growth in art (in my opinion) hasn’t been very significant but I have learned a lot about art history and I also have learned about AI. I used to think that art had very boring history but now I think that I have learned that some arts history can be very interesting if you can either relate to it or find it very interesting in general. In the beginning of art I also thought that making art was hard and I couldn’t make any art whether it was pinch pot, drawing or collage. Now I feel like my art wasn’t the best but I tried my best and worked hard to get where I am now. This entire year has been fun and exciting, I got to learn new things while having fun with friends and peers!

Clay Art Work:

Language arts Reflection (U5: Researching and Presenting an Abuse of Power)

In language arts my topic was the Taliban Takeover, I have learned how to notice when sources are reliable and I also learned how to compare sources to ensure that the article is true. When I was preparing for the KP presentation, I had practiced so many times and timed my talking and tried to present to my family when I had free time. Something that was challenging was the researching, because it was very hard to get the evidence and make sure that the publisher or the author was telling the truth. The presentation itself was also very scary, to get up in front of everyone, the questions at the end seemed more scary then it actually was and so I started stressing about the variety of questions that could be asked and I was trying to study all of them. In the beginning of the school year, I had a fear of going in front of everyone and speaking but now I still have that fear but a bit less. This year I have read many great books but my favorite books were Believe Me, Ignite Me, Watch Me, The American Roommate Experiment, The Summer I Turned Pretty. I would recommend the book Shatter Me. A book that was challenging for me was the book Divergent, because it was a very slow book and I don’t have that much patience yet.

Unit 4 Summative Language arts: Learning from the past

At the beginning of unit 4, I was confused with what all the discussion points meant, and I didn’t know what authors craft was. However, now in the beginning of unit 5, I still have no idea about author’s craft, but I now know what everything else is. Something i’m proud of is maintaining eye contact and tried to speak without reading off my paper. I had a challenge with finding where I can talk or finding points when someone else is talking to relate to them. If I could re-do the summative I would try to find more places to add to my classmates or just try to keep the conversation flowing. Some advice I would give myself would be to speak more and ask open-ended questions to show I am engaged in the conversation.

In the planning doc, I was able to understand all the questions except for authors craft. I am proud of myself because I was trying to focus on finding my evidence and quotes and picking the topic based on how comfortable I feel with it. I was struggling with the citations because I

Unit 5 Science: Part 1

In unit 5, we learned about the cycling of matter and flow of energy into and out of living and nonliving parts of an ecosystem, with emphasis on the role of photosynthesis. Our essential question was asking about what was turning Pleasant Pond green? Algal blooms are affected by various factors including water temperature, nutrient levels, and weather conditions. An overabundance of nutrients, particularly phosphorus and nitrogen from agricultural runoff and sewage, promotes the growth of algae. Spring through early fall are the seasons when water bodies usually show the most noticeable reactions to water quality issues. Algal blooms can arise from an excess amount of nutrients due to fertilizers, wastewater, and stormwater runoff. These conditions often coincide with ample sunlight, warm temperatures, and shallow, slow-moving waters.

Unit 5 Science: Part 2

In class we had stations with the different ecosystems and the food chain. These things deepened my understanding of energy flow by showing us the roles in a energy system, it also included an example of how energy flows and how much energy is in each roles, for example, in the energy pyramid, Jaguars are the tertiary consumers and have 0.1% energy, unlike bananas are the producers and take the sun energy, they also have 100% energy.

Unit 5 Science: Part 3

If I could have done something different it unit 5, I would have used my time more effectively in class to be able to understand the subject rather than just hear it and ignore it, so I could’ve listened more the the class. I also should’ve collaborated more like asking more questions to my group and discussed topics to have more understanding. I think that one improvement for the teacher could be to try to take things a bit slower, so that each student can have time to really understand instead of switching from project to projects, sometimes it can be a bit challenging to keep up for some people.

Dance Reflection

In class we have been learning how to take a choreography from a video and try to do the same movements with the same feeling by looking at how much power and how strong their dance is. We danced with the song ‘Young and Beautiful’ and ‘Dangerously’ I have learned a lot by watching and doing these dances such as, putting power into it, and I also learned how to collaborate more with people. Contemporary dance is very artistic but it can depend on how the person dancing shows it, if they are making their movements small, then it might have a different affect than if they were to put a lot of flow and effort into it.

Contemporary dance is very different compared to other styles like ballet because when you do ballet, you have a very specific expectation and there are many specific movements you have to do a certain way to make it look like Ballet. However, in Contemporary dance you don’t have limits or minimums, you can do things however you want the feeling and how you want it to look. In Contemporary, you don’t have to do it like everyone else.

I feel like I have improved my flexibility and strength, doing the warm-ups. It depends if you want to use flexibility or strength in your dance, but I feel like it has helped to show things a different way and to express yourself.

Since the beginning of the year, I feel like a can remember dances a bit more because I feel like it has become more important in my life and I am passionate about dance. I think that if I were to try to do exercises or movements, I would need a bit of help because there is still a lot that I can improve in and make room for new things.

I think that I would grade myself a 2.5, because sometimes I have a negative attitude sometimes and it effects how I present myself and my personality, it can change how I present dances and movement.

SLC REFLECTION

SLC’s improve my communication skills and it helps me communicate my thoughts throughout the year and in specific classes. Even though it is very intimidating to go and present your thoughts about class. (I was not here during SLCs, so i’m speaking from my experience last year).

Language Arts, Unit 4: Formative

I think I have improved in my understanding in the perspective and Historical Setting, in the beginning I was confused and didn’t know how to back up, or find quotes relating to my statement. I am proud of myself for knowing what I was going to say and adding on to the previous point. Next time I could improve on making eye contact and engaging in the conversation before it ends. I can also try not to look at my paper.

Dance (Contemporary)

In dance we were learning about different styles of dance with similar transferable foundational dance skills, but with different approaches. We also have been learning about Modern Dance / Jazz Dance / Ballet and Contemporary Dance. We had been introduced to different styles, artists, works of choreography and concepts. Also, we learned about concepts and tools of dance composition by learning both original choreography and repertoire. Our task in class was to learn a choreography and present it on stage, people were asked if they wanted to suggest music or make a piece of dance to show/teach other students. We were going to present our dance at the Puxi Showcase. The reason for presenting at the Showcase was to see how well we can collaborate, and see how to performance skills have improved since our last show. Something I am proud of is being able to learn to extend and put a lot of effort into the movements, however I could improve in being more confident on stage and when I was put into a duo I should’ve communicated to my partner.

Math 2024 (Unit 1:Proportions, Unit Rate) (Unit 2: Scale Copy, Scale Factor) (Unit 3: Proportionality and Percentages)

Unit 1…

In unit 1 we were learning about rates, unit rates, proportionality and circumference. When I was learning about proportions, I was really confused about everything because there were many steps to remember in order to get the correct answer. I asked for help and Ms. Ari and I had met up to practice proportions, after we had talked, it was making more sense. When we were taught rates and unit rates we had taken a pretest and I was confused. I had to ask for extra help again and I had asked again and again. I felt scared to ask for help because I thought I was the only one getting it wrong.

Unit 2 …

In unit 2, we were learning about scale copies, scale factor, similar figures, scaling area, and perimeter. When I was listening to the class, I was sort of getting it but was needing more practice. I started to review more at home and asked more questions during class. I was still not getting questions right but I realized that when I would go home I would be able to do some homework without a problem. It was kind of weird because I would want my “confidence” at school like I would doing homework at home. The day before my summative I was sick so I went home and reviewed my missing homework and did that and I re-did homework for practice. I was scared the next day for what I remembered the day prior. After the summative I was a little worried because the test seemed a little too easy. I was skeptical of my answers, and I second thought all of my strategies. I have learned to ask more questions because it’s better to learn in the moment then later find out I should’ve learned it before. I am proud of myself for how much effort I have put into my learning. Ms. Ari has helped me so much in my learning when she takes time out of her day to come help me after school.

Unit 3…

In unit 3, we were taught different methods to calculate percentage word and number problems and one of the methods was using proportions. We had also learned the percent equation. When I had learned about proportions I thought it was a bit difficult at first but after some time it was getting easier to solve problems with proportions, when I tried the percent equation I thought proportions were less confusing but the equation took less time to get the answer. I need to ask more questions to be able to have a deeper understanding of how I could solve word problems and number problems. We had learned important vocabulary like what percent, whole and part means. We also were showed how to breakdown word problems like “what number is 16% of 45?” In this unit, I knew I had some areas to improve like reading the question before assuming that the numbers are the most important part, I should also try to take more time on tests and not worry about what people around me have done/finished. When I try to hurry my tests I make mistakes that could’ve been avoided if I had read or thought about the questions.
