Science Unit 2 reflection

During this unit, I chose the essential question: How do our body systems work together when we play our favorite sport? I chose the sport of fencing. Fencing involves many body systems, including the muscular and nervous systems. To determine which systems are included when fencing. We had to understand the functions. This unit helped me understand and have the ability to analyze the body systems and organelles. It made my project easier to write my CER and label my TURTLE MODEL!!! This supports relates to the idea that body systems are built of cells because the muscular system needs protein and energy to move. That comes from the mitochondria and the ribosomes, packed up by the Golgi body.

The teachers’ mini-lessons were the most memorable, because they were very fun to experiment with the whole class. Also, it was exciting to learn new things in real life, not just virtually. The examples were all very fascinating, doing things that we don’t really do in science class, making it a very fun experience. The modeling activity helped me understand the organelles better, and it helped me understand where they are located.

One aspect I want to improve is reviewing the vocabulary more. This is very important during quizzes and tests to get a good score. I could use the websites that Ms. Caroline suggests to use top study, to help me get prepared.

Health Unit3: Healthy Decision-Making

The DECIDE model is a model that helps us think before making our final choice, to make sure we make our healthiest choice. It helps us analyze specifically before doing it, making sure our safety is safe for us. The steps are: Define the problem, Explore your options, Consider the consequences, Identify your values, Decide what to do, and Evaluate your decisions. The DECIDE model helps us make healthy choices when in a dilemma of peer pressure, which makes it hard to say no to something. BUT with the DECIDE model’s help, it makes it easier to make choices by analyzing all the specific parts to think about.

When consuming substances that we don’t know about, it is important to understand their effects. One common substance that affects our bodies negatively is nicotine. Nicotine is found in cigarettes, nicotine pouches, vapes… Nicotine pouches are highly addictive, giving a rush of dopamine and happiness. But it is very unhealthy for our bodies, leading to illnesses, depression, etc. It would also affect our future when going to a job interview or applying for college.

These are websites that could support us throughout the experience of addictive substances. It could help us learn about the information behind substances and help us get support from different articles. To inform us about the negativity the drug provides. Give us advice to help us discard this bad habit.

Unit 2 Reflection: Scale Copy

U: I understood how to find the scale copy by using the scale factor and multiplying it by the original dimensions.

N: I learned that if we multiply the original by the scale factor, it is supposed to be equal to the scale copy, but if it is not, then it is not equivalent and not a scale copy.

I: Something interesting this unit was that during reflection, we went outside and did an orange activity. It was very fun, we had to compete with each other and solve problems as quickly as possible. And had to run around the shed and come back to the teachers for each problem checked. We had to collaborate with classmates to complete this task and use our critical thinking to solve the problems

T: Something tricky this unit was the formulas, and figuring out the areas of the shape. It made me very confused when solving different problems, because the expectations are different.

UNIT 1 PROPORTIONAL RELATIONSHIP

U: In this unit, we understood how to find the COP, and we understood how to find the proportional relationship.

N: We learned how to find the proportional relationship by using division and multiplication. We learned that if it is not able to be divided and multiplied it is not proportional.

I: In this unit, we used lemonade to demonstrate our learning, it helped us see how to use this skill in real life and was very interesting.

T: It took me a while to get the hang of finding the COP. Because I missed one class, I got behind and did not understand what the COP is and how to find it. But Ms. Jiang and mr classmates helped me and I jotted down some important notes in my notebook.

Unit 2 Health Literacy Reflection

I USED TO THINK

My initial beliefs about wellness information before this unit was that I thought everything on the internet was true. I never thought and would thought that people would lie about hacks and health benefits before this unit, and would believe whatever people say. I also never understood how to check for their background and never wanted to because I was too lazy and thought it was unnecessary. I assumed that people that makes very professional videos has a lot of credit because of their skill of editing and more.

BUT NOW I THINK

My beliefs have changed a lot since the start of this unit because now I know how to check for credit by using the CRAAP CRAAP LINK. Now I believe that not all people are trustable. And believe to check the map test every day.

SUPPORTING EVIDENCE

On youtube there is a influencer called AlenaYuan. She was sharing ways to make her skin better, and said to shorten your skincare and using the Dr. G moisturizer and the vitamin serum. Using the CRAAP test we have made the conclusion that the influencer is not credible but the products are credible.

PEER FEEDBACK

The peer feedback I received positive comments on my presentation. She said that we identified the CRAAP test very clearly and she liked the explanation of the steps of how you fact-check the influencer’s claim.

Social Studies Unit 1: Media Presentation

Ashley Chang Gold E2 Media Presentation.MOV

For this unit we learned all about media, and created a presentation about media.

I received important feedback from classmates like adding more vocabulary when writing the script. I took that feedback as a suggestion, and incorporated it into my project, by using vocabulary like meaningful, relaxed and more… The feedback was very helpful, it made my script much more professional, making the audience feel it is a trusted source.

I am proud that I was focused through out the process of planning and making it. I am also proud that the influencer video turned out very nicely. When presenting I used vocabulary on my note cards like sensational, captivating, diverse to describe the school, and I am proud how it turned out.

Next time I will try to stop fidgeting during the presentation, the fidgeting indicates that I am nervous and makes the presentation feel very awkward.

In my opinion bias means wanting others to change their own perspectives to support yours. News are a example of bias, different company’s has their own perspectives. Reporting the news more towards their ideas, trying to make the audience to believe it and support it.

When people have the same perspectives there will not likely be conflicts and become peaceful because everyone has the same ideas. But people would also run out of ideas, during projects and jobs. And everything becomes pretty much the same.

Master Chef Reflection

Application of learning/ Unit 1 core concepts

This unit was fantastic, I partnered with Amy and Chloe to make a nutritious snack that is connected to the Harvard health plate. We competed with other groups among our class, and tried our best to figure the most suitable snack that has at least two micronutrients.

We learned a lot in this unit, and tried to use our knowledge to determined the best snack to win the contest. We learned that foods that has different colors is always healthy, unlike processed foods, it’s not a good daily snack to eat. In addition, snacks with vegetables and fruits are always good for people, because vegetables has a lot of fiber and fruits has many vitamins, which are two micronutrients. During the process of planing on what to make, we had a idea to make a sandwich, which has two micronutrients in it, protein and fiber. We learned that red meat such as beef are not always the best choice to eat, so we chose chicken. Chicken has a healthy amount of protein which is always very nutritious.

During the project, we had many successes. According to the rubric for this project, we have to add at least 2 micronutrients, so we added protein, fiber, and carbohydrates, 3 MICRONUTRIENTS! That makes it extra healthy for people to eat. For the ingredients we used whole wheat bread, that has carbohydrates in it, tomatoes, onions, and lettuce, so we get all the fiber we need form it, eggs and chicken breasts so we get a healthy amount of protein inside our body, and sour cream, because mayonnaise is not as healthy compared to sour cream. At the end, we have a nutritious snack that everyone could enjoy, and won the Master Chef contest. By having the most healthy, delicious, and popular snack.

During the project, we stepped through many challenges. For example, we had many conflicts causing us to be frustrated and rude to each other. The cause of this is because of our own perspectives and ideas. But at the end we still did our best and won. Also during the process of making the snack, we added too much onions, causing it to be kinda spicy.

Ethical Global Citizenship

The snack we made is almost aligned with the Harvard healthy plate, it makes the population of the world increase because of the healthy snack we made for people. While people are eating processed foods, people should look at the Harvard healthy plate as a good role model.

Habits and Goal Settings

The habit loop is cue, habit, and reward. The cue means a thing that triggers your brain to do things. The habit is the action or behavior that keeps on happening. Lastly, the reward is the effect of the from the habit.

Goal

My goal is to decrease the processed foods I eat and substitute it with the Harvard plate. This could make me healthier and stronger, mentally and physically. I would need to remind myself to always eating nutritious food, and maybe stick a printed out Harvard plate onto the wall, so it reminds me everytime.

Table Tennis Reflection

We are playing Table Tennis. We are learning the skills. For example, serving, playing with a partner, and hitting the ball. We also socialized with our partner, so we could play doubles nicely. We learned how to corporate with our partner, for example moving out of the way right after we hit the ball. Me and Tereza aimed on improving our serving and corporation, so we helped each other which went well. Something that did not go well is that we get frustrated and start saying, ” WE WANT QUALITY” as a joke but we get annoyed. In the future, when we are playing table tennis, we would know the rules and not get embarrassed because of our skills.

Food Journal

Something helpful the food journal is that the food journal keeps track of what you eat. When your on a diet, keeping track of what you eat yourself is good, so you can self reflect.

I realized that I eat fruits every morning.

I realized that each time I eat, I always have vegetables, protein, grains, water, but not always fruits. So compared to the Harvard plate it’s pretty similar.

I usually eat green colored vegetables and yellow fruits. For green colored vegetables I eat broccoli, broccoli gives you fiber and vitamins C and K. For yellow fruits I eat passion fruits, passion fruits are rich in fiber too it also gives you vitamin C.

I’m lacking red vegetables because I don’t like red peppers, so i’m missing vitamin A, so my vision would not get good.

I wan to change what I eat for breakfast, because I get hungry during school time when I only eat fruits, causing me to not have any energy.
