Unit 3 Summary Reflection

  • U: What do you understand in this unit?
  • I understood that learning about percentages can be useful and help us in our daily lives.
  • N: What new information did you learn in this unit?
  • Something new I learned this unit was how to convert decimals in to percentages
  • I: What was interesting in this unit?
  • Something that I found interesting in this unit is the summative project where I really got to explore percentages a lot more and helped me to make healthy decisions in the future when I go shopping
  • T: What was tricky for you in this unit?
  • Something that was tricky for me was calculating large numbers.

Science Unit 2 Reflection

Learning about body systems and cells helps us understand how our body fights off sickness. When we get sick, our cells and organs work together to respond to germs, causing symptoms like fever or pain. This knowledge also helps us figure out how to treat illnesses and recover faster. When we get sick, our body’s immune system activates to fight off germs like bacteria and viruses. This system consists of different subsystems, such as white blood cells and antibodies, which work together to protect us. Each group of cells plays a specific role, showing how our body functions as a complex system made up of many smaller parts working together.

I think the dissections (Pig’s heart/ lungs and Bullfrog)
and Group work (VR or Cardboard Human body project, Cell
Analogies, Microscope Observations, Connectors) helped me learn the body systems and cells best. I think the dissections really helped me learn a lot about the body systems because I really got to see how each organ/tissue looked like. The group work also helped me a lot because working with aa partner really helps me to understand more when we work together.

Something I think I should do more often to improve is checking the rubric more carefully. I think this because I usually just take a quick look at it and not really checking how to get a good grade. I think checking the rubric for assignments would definitely improve my learning because if I do, I’ll know what I have to do in an assignment in able to get a better grade and maybe even get exceeding.

L4: Artivist Piece

The title of this piece of artwork is “Beneath the Surface”

The intended audience of this piece of artwork would be the general public, to raise awareness about the issue of ocean pollution and its impact on marine life.

The first design strategy I used was Composition and Layout because I drew sea animals inside of the trash can which symbolizes that people are treating the ocean like a trashcan. Another Design strategy I used was narrative techniques because drawing sea animals inside the trash tells the audience to realize the fact that they are treating the ocean like trash and causing many deaths of those sea animals, drawing these can illustrate impact on the audience for them to think about the outcome of ocean pollution.

Health Unit 3 Reflection: DECIDE model

1.Explain the DECIDE model and how it can be helpful for making difficult decisions- especially those involving peer pressure:

This is the DECIDE model that I have created with my group, the topic that we had to research on were painkillers. Me and my group were first given a senario, the senario was about your roommate asking if you wanted to try their painkillers, they say that it’s safe, but you don’t know whats the right thing to do. And we had to chose what to do under this type of peer pressure. This is where we started filling out each box, we drew eight boxes, the first one is introduction, the second to seventh was the things that represented the letters in DECIDE, such as define the problem, explore your options, consider the consequences, etc. The DECIDE models can be helpful with making hard decisions by thinking deeper into the effects and consequences of your choices so that you might have a better understanding of whats the better choice under peer pressure.

2.Describe what you learned about the effects of different substances (after Lesson 38).

What I have learned about the effects pf different substances are some are legal some are not, most of them can be addicted, some may not be as addicting.

PE Unit Reflection: Swimming

For this unit, I learned lots of new skills that i can do in the water, such as the oyster and starfish, jumping in the waters in different ways, how to save someone from a blackout, etc. Another thing that I learned is improving my swimming skills while practicing with the class, especially freestyle. I also learned lot about teamwork when we were doing the final artistic swimming performance, I had to work with my group to come up with moves to create a good performance, we agreed and disagreed, but at the end, we figured it all out together as a team. This swimming unit helped me improve in not just swimming, but also lots of other things.

Health unit 2 portfolio reflection

I used to think…

  • Describe your initial beliefs about wellness influencers and online health information before this unit – Before I thought if an influencer had a lot of followers and gives evidence, than the information would be valid.
  • What did you assume was true about health content you saw online? – Random skincare hacks.
  • How did you decide whether to trust health advice from social media or websites? – I decided to trust social media instead because I often just believe everything I see on the inter net unless its gets way to fake like for example how to turn your dog into a unicorn.

But now I think…

  • Explain how your thinking has changed after learning to evaluate health media – Now I learned that I should research about the information from trusted sources and identify if its true or not using the CRAPP test.
  • What new strategies do you use to determine if health information is reliable? – The CRAPP test
  • How will you approach wellness influencers and online health content differently moving forward? – I will approach influencers differently by looking up and researching the information instead of just believing everything I see

Supporting Examples

  • Include at least one specific example from the unit (an activity, discussion, or resource) that influenced your thinking -when I did my first CRAPP test during class that helped me understand how to research about information and check if it’s true or not.

Feedback:

I liked… that it was really colorful and eye catching

Your clearest/ most memorable idea was… how we could get some nourishment by rubbing banana peels on your face but most likely to do nothing

L4: Creating Standard – Self-Expression and Persistence

My final clay projects reflects different aspects of me because the cookie jar is a cookie monster which was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid and also represents the love I have for baking and eating cookies with my family. The clay tile is a floaty on beach water which expresses how much I love the beach.

My final graffiti name drawing reflects different aspects of my identity in many ways for example the nickname I chose to draw instead of my real name, the four symbols that I added next to the name like my favorite snack, my family, fish fins that represents my first pet, and stars representing my nationality.

I successfully completed my art piece on time, incorporating elements that reflect my identity.

Math unit 1 reflection

  • U: What do you understand in this unit?
  • Something that I understood this unit is many of the vocabulary words.
  • N: What new information did you learn in this unit?
  • Something that was new to me in this unit is what COPs are and how to calculate them.
  • I: What was interesting in this unit?
  • learning all the new concepts and vocabulary words in math.
  • T: What was tricky for you in this unit?
  • Something that was really tricky and hard for me to understand was calculating COPs because I didn’t understand and also wasn’t really asking for help, so i struggled with that.

Social Studies Unit 1: Media Presentation

Ashley Hsu Gold E2 Media Presentation product branding pages.MOV

1.What are some pieces of feedback that you received and then incorporated into your work?

Some feedback that I received that I then incorporated in my work is that I explained my language choices instead of showing them

2.Explain 1 thing that you are proud of from this unit.

Something that I am proud of from this unit is my presentation that I made for the media project, and I think I explained everything that I needed to.

3.Explain 1 thing that you want to keep working on.

Something that I want to keep working on is explaining my presentation because i don’t think I did very well when I was presenting, I wrote a script for me to read but it just ended up me keep on reading the information on the presentation and not making eye contact with the audience, I don’t think I was loud enough and I don’t think I explained it clearly.

 4. In your own words, explain what Bias is.

Bias is how people think in different ways which creates different perspectives

5. Explain 1 positive outcome of people having the same perspective might be.

When people share the same perspective, they might agree with each other and not argue on certain ideas.

 6. Explain 1 negative outcome of people having the same perspective might be.

When people have the same perspectives, they will most likely argue and disagree with each other.

Unit 1 Health Reflection

Unit one core concepts: Some factors that should be included in a healthy balanced meal is definitely the ingredients included in the healthy plate such as fruits, grains, vegetables, protein, etc. I used all of these ingredients when creating my menu plan with all the healthy meals for Evan (all macronutrients & lots of micronutrients).

Application of learning: My learning has contributed to the MasterChef project because I tried my best to include the best materials that should be put in the healthy snack that would be convenient for me to get and what would be good for the planet. Some challenges that I have faced during this project was that I couldn’t really follow what I said that I was going to make because I said that I would be using strawberries for the yogurt bark but it wasn’t really the season for strawberries so I used frozen berries instead. But there were also things that wet well such as people liking my snack and i had enough portions for everyone to try.

Ethical global citizenship: I would say that my current diet is pretty sustainable according to my food journal because I eat vegetables at least once a day and barely any beef, fruits are also something thats usually part of my breakfast or eaten as a snack. My food choices relate to ethical global citizenship because what I choose to eat are pretty beneficial for the planet.

Habits and goal setting: The habit loop influences my food choices because when my brain craves for something then eating that thing might give me an unhealthy diet or it also might be something good because if wanting(cue) and eating(routine) things such as vegetables would give me a healthier body which is the reward
