Unit 4 Dystopian Fiction Reflection

What did I learn about dystopian fiction?

I learned that dystopian fiction lets the government have absolute control and ability to make the community dark and happy at the same time

How does dystopian fiction encourage me to think about the real world?

it made me think about countries that have death penalties and how they might be wrong

I enjoyed the giver because

it was a good book and helped me understand how dystopian fiction was and how messed up it was.

How has my ability to write academic paragraphs improved?

My ability to write academic paragraphs have improved through the commonlit activities helping me have a better academic structure

How have I become better at literature discussions?

I have become better at literature discussions because I am practicing talking about the giver

Unit 2 Otzi Unit Portfolio Reflection

  1. What did I work on?
  1. During this unit, ‘Why should we care about the past?’, I worked on
  1. Making observations, inferences and wonderings
  1. Using photos and articles as evidence
  1. Writing a CER paragraph
  1. Asking and answering open and closed questions
  1. Taking part in the Otzi Mock Trial, my role was a expert witness.
  1. What did I learn? Why should we care about the past?
  1. We should care about the past because we can learn about how people in the past lived and how they built the pyramids. This could technologically make us better or at least analyze how people did it.
  1. What worked well?
  1. I am proud of the following work my speech, my C.E.R paragraph and I liked the topic Otzi getting murdered or not.
  1. I am proud of the work above because I have never done anything like this before, but I think I did a good job
  1. What did not work well?
  1. I found some of this work challenging, Including the presentation, some questions that the lawyer asked, and my PPT.
  1. I found the work above challenging because they would all be seen and heard by everyone.
  1. Personal Relevance
  1. Collaboration and communications skills are important in my future because they will help me have good relationships with others and have a lasting relationship with others.

Math

What did I do?

Day 1: We chose our recipe and tell about why we made the choice.

Day 2: We provided the respective calculations for each ingredient.

Day 3: We determined the percentage markup and the sell price.

Day 4: Based on the math poster, students articulates how they determined the sell prices

Day 5: Bake Sale!

What did I learn.

Day 1: We learned equivalent ratios and showed our work on our ingredients.

Day 2: We provided the unit rates with proper unit labels.

Day 3: Provides clear mathematical explanation for cost of 1 batch of the recipe

Day 4: Determined their sell n their markup

Day 5:Bake Sale!

What worked?

We sold out the churros in less than ten minutes, meaning the churros were very successful. Morpheus and I also collaborated very well meaning that we finished the churros by ourselves, not buying from outside.

What did not work?

we did not organize our ingredients very well, causing us to do it again. we also made two batches of different churros, but that also failed initially.

How is this relevant to me?

In the future, many businesses involve bargaining and a solid price. this will be relevant to me because of the likely hood of a sale price and profit. this is also relevant to me because of the collaboration skills it gave me. It also taught me in how to make churros.

Egg car

What did I do?

I built a egg car with my partner that tried to not break after falling down a ramp and rush into the cement.

what did I learn?

I learned that the egg will still want to keep on moving forward after the egg car stoped. I also learned that after the car stoped the egg will push against the car and the egg will be pushed back with a equal force, causing our little egg to die.

what worked?

we designed a little block of paper to block the egg. we made a cover for the egg to not fall out.

what did not work?

our car was not long enough. We also did not put enough stuff in the back.

Personal relevance

I now know that you need to add a lot of safety in building a car. I now also know that an air bag is important. I also know that you have to protect the back of the car or the back will break.

Balloon car reflection

What did I do?

I used the wheels to roll forward. Used the balloon to propel forward. Used a piece of cardboard to carry weights.

What did I learn?

Newton’s first law: an object in motion will stay in motion. After the balloon propelled the car forward, it will stay in motion unless stopped by another force. Newton’s second law: F=ma. if we add more weights on the car that is more mass, so we need to make the balloon bigger in order to have the same acceleration. Newton’s third law: every action has an equal reaction. The car hit a chair and bounced back because of the equal force on the car.

What worked?

The speed of the car went well because the air comes out very quickly, thus essential for holding weights. We also had good teamwork. Our design also gad less mass so it could travel further

What did not work?

It was a struggle when the balloon car started to go sideways instead of going straight. To solve this problem me and Dylan broke the hot glue and re-glued it so it went straighter.

Personal relevance

The balloon car reached me how Newton’d law is important because I learned about how mass affects the speed of a car. For example, a truck might be slower than the average taxi if they have the same force pushing. I also learned that if I push at a wall I will bounce back if I had to much force on it.

Health

It is important to understand puberty because of the changes that will happen and how to over come these challenges that happen during puberty.

the change I feel most confident about is me having erections because I already have them.

the change I feel most concerned about is my emotional changes.

I can ensure that it is credible and appropriate by looking at the comments.

I want to know about mood swings and emotions that will happen.

Creative Writing Reflection

What are we doing?

Writing a fictional story based on a theme that matters to me.

What are we learning?

Theme (my purpose for writing this story, my message to readers)

Character Development (creating believable characters with positive & negative traits)

Plot (the sequence of events in my story; Western and Eastern approaches to storytelling)

Setting (the world that I create for my story)

What’s working

I enjoyed planning the setting and writing the setting because it was in the future. I am proud of how my story’s plot turned out. I got the idea for my story from the book Wonder.

Areas for growth

I had some trouble trying to get to 4 pages of the creative writing. I dealt with these troubles by giving Cari a very descriptive prank from Zoey.

Personal relevance

I can enjoy creative writing from doing my homework and making new stories that are interesting.

Robot Cars and Gravitrax critical thinking

I played with Robot Cars to strengthen my critical thinking skills.

I learned how to analyze my problem and figure out what color matches which turn.

Green went forward and purple made the robot car spin round and round. During Gravitrax, one of my teammates had an idea to include a super skinny thing. I was pretty amazed when the marble rolled directly to the other side of the road.

I struggled to find a color that went backwards.

Today learning helped me figure out many details connecting to critical thinking.

Nonfiction Writing Reflection- Paragraph Structure

What are we doing?

Academic Paragraph about character analysis

What are we learning?

Paragraph structure

-topic sentence

-transitions

-conclusion

What’s working

I know how to write a meeting academic paragraph. I improved my topic and conclusion sentence. My topic sentence in august had a lot of mistakes and a lot of I and you instead of “the reader.” My conclusion also had the same problem and didn’t have a structure. When I recently did my academic paragraph

Areas for growth

I can’t remember most of the transitions. My topic sentence is still very basic.

Personal relevance

In the future, this might help me get better writing grades. this can lead to a better college. Also before I used a easier format, Oreo
