Apprenticeship Activities Reflection

Creative Learner

While doing the creative learner tasks, I noticed that recently I participated in a business competition which involves creating a game, that links to task 7 of creative learner. This business competition also links to the TTG. Traditional learning is just learning the concepts in classrooms but this business competition provided me the opportunity to learn in a new way, to learn as a creative learner. We developed the game and we presented our business idea to the sharks, similar to what we will do in the future. This way of learning is more immersive, and can learn the knowledge while having fun. I think people can learn from a lot of things we do in normal life. For example traveling, gaming, or even collaborating with others. Experiencing these things with a different mindset can always make you a creative learner.

Critical Thinker

For the critical thinker task I did the survival challenge where you need to arrange different objects in order. You need to put the objects that will help you survive one an island in priority and the useless objects left behind. This can improve our critical thinking skills because we need to find a reasoning for why we arranged the objects in this way, allowing us to imagine what will happen if we have this object.

Effective Collaborator

For Effective Collaborator, I think the gym workout really helped me throughout the semester. I did follow the workout and I did do it every week. This allowed me to keep my body fit and have better performance in sports like basketball and track. I truly felt I have more power and stamina when I played basketball after a few weeks of workout. I will continue this workout throughout the next semester and also it will be good to prepare for my season 3 sport. If I kept working out during the Chinese New Year break, I can keep my body fit for better performances in track tryouts.

Skillful Communicator

I decided to use the research I did in debate about “should we ban animal testing”. In this task, I watched youtube videos to learn how to right a good argument for debate and also how to prepare for counter arguments. Those are really important skills that we can use when we grow up, and also when you do a researching paper. From this task I also improved my ability to work individually, doing all the research and all the writing. In conclusion, this task is really beneficial for my future and my growth.

Resilient

I took a mindful walk around campus during the morning, and the air was really fresh where I can have time to clear out the things in my brain. I can enjoy the temperature of nature and spend my time alone. When I finished the mindful walking, I felt really good and freshed.

Outside school

Participating in the basketball club outside of school has been a transformative experience for me. Not only have I improved my skills on the court, but I have also formed strong bonds with my teammates. Being a part of this club has taught me the value of teamwork, dedication, and perseverance. Every practice and game, I push myself to be better and I have seen the results pay off. It has also been a great outlet for stress and has taught me how to handle pressure in a healthy way. Overall, being a part of this club has been an enriching and rewarding experience that I will always cherish.

School project

In robotics, I built a robot where the chassis is made out of wood and I had to laser cut it. I also need to make measurements and screw different components into the chassis. It was a fun experience because we also got to learn coding and it was a good experience for me.

TTG Reflection

I practiced my effective collaborator skill when I was making a gym routine where I can follow and when I was doing the Learning Lab Zoom In task.

Zoom In

This activity is a interesting activity where you can collaborate with your friends to complete something. This supports the skillful communicator and effective collaborator TTG because in order to complete this task, we will need to talk to each other.

Beauty of the Laser⚠️

Can you imagine that the laser in Star Wars can be used to design art? Can you imagine laser can be a tool to cut through objects? Today, in Makerspace, we used the laser cut machine to create wonderful designs of things I like. We first used Inkscape to design our project and then we laser cut it. The photo below is what I laser cutted. I learned a lot from this experience even though I did this before, and it felt good to laser cut things you are interested and you like.    😃😄

AI as a Friend 😎

My goal will be able to know when to use AI tools and when to work without them. From this class, I noticed that students are using AI in a wrong way and that does not help them from being a creative learner. I want to treat AI as a friend where you can ask them questions for inspiration and you use your own brain and creativity to build on their ideas.

I will remind myself the correct ways to use an AI before using an AI.

Let AI guide you but not do the work for you.📱💻

Respect Others Online 😃😃😃

Last class, we received different scenarios for us to act it out, and we need to plan how we act it and the right way to act it out. From that, we learned that you should take responsibility for what you do and think because it can impact others in a negative way. Before saying or doing something, we should all think about the consequences and impact before doing it, and take responsibility of your actions. We should still be respectful to others even though it is online, and to an unknown person.

As a Freshman🤔

This is my first week in High school and there are a lot of things that changed. I am really excited for a lot of things that will happen later in High school for example The Nine, APAC Basketball, and other interesting events.

In Middle school, we also traveled somewhere else for 5 days, and those 5 days created numerous good memories for me. The trip to Yangzhou is similar to World Classroom which excites me. Something that excites me more is that we get to bring our phones, ahem ahem😄😄😄.

I like to play basketball, and APAC basketball is also an exciting event for me even though I’m not getting in varsity. Of course, I will practice more to work toward my goal. We will travel to different places and play different opponents, and I believe it will be a great experience. 🏀🏀🏀

The environment changed a lot from middle school to high school, which is a big challenge. Grades are more important, there are more homework, and tests became more often. Everything seems different but the people beside me never changed. Even though high school is a lot more stressful than middle school, but my friends will always support me and be there for me.

Passion Project-Feb 23

End of Class: Portfolio Prompts

Our process begun the way we expected, and we made some changes to our action plan as we are going forward. The next step we will need to do is combine the songs that we chose into one song, because we are singing a song medley, and the lyrics need to make sense as we combine the lyrics. Me and my partner will need to discuss how to combine the songs we chose, and eliminate the songs that are not different to the other songs. This will be hard because it takes a lot of time to make a song or combine a song.

Welcome to Your New Portfolio!

Why have a digital portfolio at SAS?

Creating a portfolio, or blog is a great way to collect all the work you’ve done throughout your academic career. You can include academic, athletic, and personal artifacts or experiences that you want to share with a wider audience. This is a great way to organize all your learning in one place and you can take it with you when you leave SAS.  When you make your portfolio, you create posts that are categorized according to your subject. Some categories have already been set up for you, but if you need more categories you can add them as needed. It’s important that your posts have the following:

  • An engaging title – this should not include the name of the subject since this is referenced in the category. Think of this as the first opportunity to engage and hook your reader!
  • Body – this is where you share your learning. This should include a combination of text and media in the form of images, graphics, and embedded videos. You should always consider how your post looks to your audience. Is it engaging and organized? Do they want to keep reading?
  • Category – select one that has been set for you or add a new category. Posts can have more than one category e.g. Humanities and Myself as a Learner
  • Tags – create tags that can be used as keywords to describe your post. Tags help organize your post a little more! Aim to have 3-5 tags for each post. For example, if you are posting about a novel you wrote, you might want the following tags: #Fiction, #MurderMystery, #Theme, #PlotDiagram
