What did I do?
I learned about dystopian fiction by writing academic paragraphs and discussing topics collaboratively. We read the dystopian fiction book: The Giver. We also did many vocabulary tests where we write a short story and include the words that we learned from the book. We also did commonlit assignments for homework where we summarise and answer questions about the book.

What did I learn?
During this unit, I learned how to write academic paragraphs and answer questions about the book. Through many vocabulary tests, I built my vocabulary range and used more advanced words. I also learned to use transition words and how to do collaborative discussions.
What worked?
I completed all my commonlit assignments on time with transition words and good answers. I participated in a lot of discussions and I always knew the answer to the question. I understood the dystopian characteristics of a dystopian fiction book and I learned how to identify them without too much trouble. The Giver was also very fun and interesting to read and I always enjoyed the read alouds.

What did not work?
Sometimes during vocabulary tests, I would get a little stuck on how I would use the words I would pick. Sometimes I get confused about the word meaning and how to use a word in a sentence. During discussions, sometimes we would just talk over each other instead of acknowledging each others ideas.
Personal Relevance
Learning how to discuss with other people and acknowledge their ideas is very important because it will be very useful in the future when I am discussing with a research partner or a friend. It will help me be more productive when I am trying to express my ideas and make others feel like they matter. Writing academic paragraphs will also help me later on when I am writing an important essay for something. It can help me make my essay feel more professional and formal.
