Math Unit 3: Proportionality and Percentages

I understood how to find a percentage of a number and write a double number line or a tape diagram for the percentage and number. Some important important information that I learned is the formula of finding the percentage of a number which is dividing the value by the total value and then multiply the result by 100. Some places that I can use percentages in real life is when finding the tax, tip, and sales rate for an original number.

ELA Unit 2 Formative #2 (CERER -Dystopian Characteristics)

In this unit, I was proud of my claim and how it supported my entire paragraph. I learned how important it is to organize my thoughts clearly. Starting with a strong claim helped me explain my main idea right away. Gathering solid evidence made my argument stronger and gave me something to back up what I said. In the reasoning part, I connected the evidence to my claim, showing how everything fit together. Finally, the explanation wrapped everything up and helped me think about different perspectives. This whole process not only improved my writing skills but also taught me how to share my ideas in a clear and convincing way.

Unit 1 Social Studies Portfolio Post

Reflecting on our social studies unit about how technology impacts society, I found this unit really meaningful. I wrote an essay. In my essay, I talked about how the printing press changed the way people shared ideas, how they wrote books, and how people communicated. It increased literacy rates and made books available to more people, which helped everyone have more access to education.

One thing I did well was writing the essay and making it sound organized and detailed. I wrote about the positive and negative parts of the printing press and how governments have tried to address these issues by creating rules to protect people and promote responsible sharing of information. This unit taught me that technology has a powerful influence on our lives. It helped make our lives easier, but we must also be careful and think critically about the information we print.

Health Unit 3 Decision Making Reflection

In this unit, we learned about drugs, vapes, cigarettes, how they are addictive, the consequences of taking them, and what to do when addicted. As a group, we made a decide model about what to do in a scenario, and go over steps such as evaluating the decision, considering the consequences and decide what to do. We also explored some websites related to what to do when addicted and also websites that contains information about drugs, or vapes. The top website for kids are Youthnow.mv and kids health.org. They both have solutions about taking drugs and who to contact if you get addicted.

Artistic Swimming Unit Reflection

In this unit, we had 8 classes of swimming. We learned safety strokes like floating, wadding. After these lessons, we would come in groups of 3 to 8 and make an artistic swimming routine that we would dance to the music. My team consisted of 5 people.

Health Unit 2 Reflection

Before this unit, I used to believe almost everything influencers said online, not stopping to think if the claim they were stating was making sense or not. Most people don’t stop to think as well when they are scrolling on social media. This can be dangerous if people start to try out the things the influencer is doing, and it could harm the body. For instance, if an influencer claims that taping your mouth shut when you sleep is helpful for you, and you try it out, it could cause harm to your body. This is because when your mouth is taped, your body realizes only on your nose for breath, and this could lead to dangerous scenarios.

However, now after this unit, I learned to think about the claim the influencer is making is true or not and how it can either be helpful or be dangerous to my health. Some strategies I use is the CRAAP test, which stands for checking the Currency: when the health information was posted, Relevance: does this information relate to your specific health needs and situation, Authority: who is sharing this information and what are their qualifications, Accuracy: Is the health information correct and evidence based, and Purpose: why is this health information being shared. After going through this checklist, I can view the videos I watch more carefully, and stay safe from false health claims.

For my project, I made a presentation with my partner about a health claim an influencer is making and seeing if the claim is true and if the influencer is credible. We searched up screenshots of the articles included by the influencer, to see if the articles were true and credible. We also searched up the product she was reviewing. Our conclusion was that the health claim she was making, LED light masks are beneficial for your skin is true, but she is not credible. My presentation

Math Unit 1: Proportional Relationships

In this unit, we learned how to recognize proportional relationships in tables, graphs and equations. I understood how to find the COP (Constant of Proportionality) of ratios and how the unit rate is the simplest form of a ratio expressed for the quantity of one. I also understood how to tell if 2 relationships were proportional by seeing if they have the same unit rate when both are fully simplified.

There was not a lot of new information to me in this unit. However, a concept that I was not so sure about and got confused easily was analyzing proportional relationships and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems. A concept that I felt confident about was recognizing proportional relationships in graphs, tables and equations.

Unit 1 ELA Media Project Summative

For this unit in Social studies and Language arts, we did a unit on media, and how it persuade or influences audiences. We could choose a type of media to create and show 2 perspectives or bias. The type of media I chose was newspapers. I chose newspapers because I felt the most confident in writing and I wanted to research more about an event that took place that was very controversial.

If this had been a traditional assignment where everyone had to make the same type of project (for example, a slideshow), how would that have affected your ability to reach the standards? What do you like or dislike about that compared to having multiple options?

If we only had limited options for our media project, there would be less diversity in everyone’s project since everyone is doing the same thing. It would be more challenging if I had to choose a type of media I am not very interested or good at. For example, if product branding was the only option in this project, I would be less engaged and interested rather than writing newspapers. Some benefits of limited or standardized prompts is less time deciding what media to work on.

How did you improve from the beginning of the unit until now?

At the start of the unit, I was not sure what media actually meant and how it persuades audiences to have a fixed mindset about a topic. I also was nervous in presenting in front of an audience. After this unit, I feel like I improved in my presentation skills and my understanding of media was deeper.

What are you proud of?

1 thing I am proud of in this unit is the newspaper I made. It is very clear that it is written in 2 perspectives because I included words such as reckless, and drunkards. These words have the connotation of troublemaker, and not thinking about one’s consequences to their actions.

What were some challenges for you?

Some challenges for me was writing the newspaper because I had trouble choosing how to be creative with the 2 perspectives and including bias without being too obvious.

What advice would you give yourself for next unit?

Some advice I would give myself is when presenting, make more eye contact, fix my posture to make it look more professional, and avoid filler words. Also, I would include more words with connotations that differ from the actual denotation.

Social Studies Unit 1: Media Presentation

What are some examples of feedback that you received and then incorporated into your work?

In this unit, we chose a type of media and presented about it. The media I chose was newspapers and I wrote it in 2 different perspectives in the same scene. Some feedback I got from this unit of my project is when presenting, make more eye contact, fix my posture to make it look more professional, and avoid filler words.

In your own words explain what Bias is.

In my opinion, I think biased content presents only one side of the conflict. There is also bias when stories are selected or slanted to please corporate owners of media.

Explain 1 thing that you are proud of from this unit.

1 thing I am proud of in this unit is the newspaper I made. It is very clear that it is written in 2 perspectives because I included words such as reckless, and drunkards. These words have the connotation of troublemaker, and not thinking about one’s consequences to their actions.

Health Master Chef Reflection

This unit for health, we made healthy snacks. We got with a partner and cooked healthy snacks including macronutrients, vegetables, and carbohydrates. We were graded based on the taste of our snack, presentation, appeal to middle school students, and alignment to the harvard health plate.

Me and my partner made healthy pizza bites. This is a healthy snack because it is packed with multiple macronutrients. This snack has many vegetables with numerous macronutrients, the main ones being carbohydrates and fiber. Carbohydrates provides us with glucose which eventually converts into energy. Fiber helps the body digest well.

What I think we did well in this unit was to include many macronutrients and create a healthy meal that is well balanced. We made all the ingredients for the pizza like the dough and pizza sauce. We made the dough by mixing Greek yogurt, flour and yeast. We made the pizza sauce by mixing tomato soup, vegetables like parsley, carrots, spinach, and olive oil. All of our ingredients were organic and fresh.

What I think we could do better or improve in is include more reasons how our snack could benefit your body and how it aligns with the harvard health plate.

Overall, I feel like this unit really helped me decide which choices I should make to improve my diet.
