Health Identity and Healthy Relationships Project Reflection

This project, we chose an relationship from the media, (I chose Katniss and Peeta from the Hunger Games), and we analyzed it from: consent, boundaries, healthy parts, unhealthy parts, how to make it healthier, and what this relationships would be like in real life. I think the most important thing I learned from this project is to always ask for consent and make sure your not crossing someone’s boundaries.

Health Unit 2 Portfolio reflection

This unit was about mental health awareness, we learned that many mental health conditions are stigmatized and it is important that people learn what they really are, not they are portrayed.

At the start of the unit, I believed many media portrayals of mental health conditions. For example, I though bipolar disorder ment someone could because extremely dangerous in one second but be normal in another. Now I know that is not true because bipolar disorder mean you have high and low energy moments and you cannot control them. I know now to raise awareness of these conditions and show what people go through and stop the stigma.

Science Active Learning Self-Assessment Reflection

My current goal is improving on being a better listener because I sometimes like just listening to the teacher talk is a bit boring. I will try to eliminate distractions when to teacher is talk so I can focus and listen to the directions more.

I have made progress towards my goal because now, whenever we have an assignment, I listen to the teacher’s directions so I get everything right.

I am most proud of doing quality work in class and completing my assignments on time.

My biggest challenge is still listening to everything the teacher is saying.

I have demonstrated active learning by coming to class on time with the correct materials, turning in my work on time, one thing I could improve on is listening to the teacher more.

Unit 1 Transformations and Congruence Reflection

I chose question number 2 as evidence of my best thinking because I correctly identified the center of dilation as well as how to dilate something.

I chose question number 4 as evidence of my best thinking because I correctly preformed 2 rigid transformations to prove that two shapes were congruent.

Through this unit, I improved the most on rigid transformations as I didn’t know what they were before and now I can properly do them.

I feel like that I need to work on angle and side congruency and math CERs because I didn’t quite get them all correct in the test.

Strengths:

  1. Rigid transformations
  2. Proving congruency
  3. Dilations

Things to improve on:

  1. Angles and Side congruency
  2. Finding the center of rotation
  3. Math CERs

Next unit, I want to get a 3 or above on the final test to prove that I understand the topic.

Structured WOOP Goal

Over the past week, I have been using structured as a planning app, and I find it helpful.

Structured will give you a template to organize your daily tasks as well as your sleeping and waking time based on your preference. You can make daily tasks ranging from time and alerts (structure by default uses 3 haptic alerts). You can also customize the way your template look and add a widget on your phone’s home screen.

During my WOOP GOAL, I stated that I wanted to be ahead of time with my things I need to do, I think structured helps me with that since I can make the tasks at any time of the day. I also find the widget the displays your calendar for the day helpful because it is a convenient place to click off the tasks you have already done. I find myself using it by just writing all my tasks in the morning and checking off each on in the widget and keeping an eye out for my haptic notifications (I have my haptic notifications custom so I don’t confuse it with my other tasks. These features connect to my wellness goal organization because it says almost the same stuff as during the quiz to decide your grade in the organization category.

I think this app has helped me remember more tasks I have, specifically doing homework and going to appointments after school. I think since I am really prone to forget things, it works.

There are other features I didn’t use a lot including color customization, background customization, and font. Personally, a reason I didn’t use these features is because they don’t really help me achieve my goal of being ahead of time and planning my tasks and I don’t find it useful and other ways.

Structured’s download page refers to the app as a helpful and easy daily planner, calendar, to do, and habit tracker. To me, structured lives up to its promises because I can describe is as a convenient, and helpful planner/to do list.

Structured has a few limitations of having a pro version, which is bad because it constantly advertises the pro version, which can be disruptive when trying to be fast and convenient.

Color customization

Background and Font customization

Settings for structured (includes customizations)

Making a task (includes your already made tasks for reference)

Time reference (in app)

Complete calendar

App widget (for iphone)

For my wellness metrics, I think for the questions/standard in the organization part, all of them have increased to a 8/9 because structured simply covers all of them because of the reason’s it has helped me above.

I think that my hypothesis on how structured would help me mainly was right on the organization and planning ahead part, but I don’t really refer to the sleep notifications of structured so I think one improvement on the app could be locking your phone after your sleep time to help encourage self-discipline.

I think one bad behavior that the app structured encouraged was constantly checking my phone for notifications from structured because I wanted to make sure all my tasks were done on time. From one perspective, this can be a good way of keep track of time, but to my parents, it’s called screen addiction.

I think this app can encourage busy life styles, especially when you need constant reminders on your to do list and a fast way to make your to do list.

I think the app’s design is very clean, making it very hooky for people who are into designs. Additionally, the satisfying haptic reminders can be hooky (for me especially), so I think this kind of makes me keep wanting to look at my phone which I mentioned above. This app also constantly advertises it’s pro version which can delay making quick tasks. One way it is hard to pay attention to these is because of the AI that comes with the pro packages which I’m pretty sure you can making tasks by speaking to it.

Health Teen Brain Project

In this unit, we learned the how the teen brain develops and how it is different from the adult brain. This unit was prioritized to help us understand how we are growing and how to deal with stress the teen brain may cause. We first learned the major parts of the brain. Then, we analyzed that the amygdala in the teen brain can controls the bodies’ FFF and emotions. During this FFF, the amygdala can override the prefrontal cortex because the amygdala develops faster, which is the front lobe of the brain that controls logical thinking. This can cause teens to be more impulsive. There is another parts of the teen brain that makes and stores memories and can act under the FFF. In the teen brain, the amygdala can sometimes determine something that is actually a false alarm but still activate the FFF, in this process, if the prefrontal cortex gets overridden, the body can stressed out over false alarms. All the FFF responses relate to your sympathetic nervous systems because your sympathetic nervous system is supposed keep your body on edge and react to threats/danger. Understanding this process it vital for teens to manage their brain because too many false alarms can cause chronic stress and mental problems. In the adult brain, the prefrontal cortex is fully developed at age 25 and no longer gets overridden by the amygdala. This is why adults think more logically.

We also analyzed real life examples. For example, if there is a kid that goes to class and his teacher suddenly announces a test, his amygdala can activate the FFF, but it’s a false alarm, meaning he can think about using coping strategies such as the breath anchor (in different scenarios light exercise or a nap can be good). These coping strategies work because they activate the parasympathetic nervous system which helps you rest and digest.

We also learned about different kinds of stress: distress and eustress. Distress is the kind of stress that keeps you on edge and is not to good for you. Eustress is the kind of stress that makes you more productive and makes you push.

Art Class Portfolio Reflection

What I did in this unit:

My favorite unit in art was making an impact. In this unit I made a poster regarding how we shouldn’t have violent conflicts such as war and we should prioritize friendship.

What I learned in this unit

In this unit I learned that you need to have meaningful drawings and words in a limited space. For example, I used Friendship>War in large words on the top of my poster, and I showed a dove with an olive branch in it’s mouth and a flying heart with angel wings overshadowing a gun representing war. I also learned that you have to consider your target audience, so I am going to put this poster on websites and on walls that countries who are having wars right now (such as Russia, Ukraine, Israel, Pakistan, etc.) can see.

Why I like this unit:

I liked this unit because number one we are doing something super meaningful that can change the world and make it a better place, and also I like using procreate to draw the whole thing.

My growth throughout the semester:

I think one of the biggest challenges/growth I have overcame/achieved is planning out my artwork before I make it. I used to just dive in right away into my artwork but I found out planning can help reducing errors and brainstorming new ideas.

Exhibition of my Artwork:

Title: Prioritizing Friendship Over War

Made with Procreate

Description: Main idea of this artwork is to prioritize friendship over war. The dove carrying the olive branch in it’s mouth and also the smaller flying heart with angel wings represents friendship and peace, they are also overshadowing a gun which represents war.

Probability Fair Reflection

Me and my Partner Siwoo Playing the Game with people

Our Advertisment

In the 7th grade probability fair, me and my partner Siwoo made a card game called white jack. The rules are there are 3 flipped cards and one is a joker, and you have to draw the joker to win. Our game is dependent because two people are playing and after one person draws, the second person’s chance of winning is now 50%, when the first player’s chance is 33.33% a you do rock, paper, scissors to see who gets first pick. Our game also involves betting, you have to bet at least two tickets at the start, and the house will match your bet with HI-CHEW, whoever wins the round will take the tickets/candy. Additionally, if you lose a round, you have to bet +1 candies/tickets than you bet that round. To clarify, there are four rounds of this. Finally, the player also gets a participation award of one candy, and another candy if they spread the word that our game is good.

Experimental vs Theoretical Probability

In our game, the experimental probability of winning was around 58.05% (we played 62 games and won 36 of them). But the experimental probability was 33.33% chance of winning, and 66.66% chance of winning.

Conflicts

There were two main problems we faced in the probability fair, one of the problems was that my partner Siwoo, didn’t buy enough candy so we had limited betting material. We solved this problem by making smarter bets while playing the game. Another problem we had was that some players started rigging the game and leaving indents on the joker, we solved this problem by smoothing out the card every time a round ended.

What went well

Something that went well in the probability fair was that we won a lot of tickets and our game was played a lot.

What we could improve on

I think next time we could buy more prizes and remember to check the cards every time to make sure it wasn’t rigged.
