I understood how to calculate the percent change in problems. I learned about the percent increase and decrease and how to calculate them.
N: What new information did you learn in this unit?
I learned the formula of calculating the percent change. For example, (New÷Original)*100%(or original) = the percent change. And, I got good at calculating the percent increase or decrease because of all the practice in class.
I: What was interesting in this unit?
One thin I found interesting in this unit is the presentation and word problems. In the problems we do, it also includes tip and tax. Which I learned to find out how to calculate.
T: What was tricky for you in this unit?
Something that ws tricky for my in this unit was I sometimes forget to change the percentage into a decimal point with the 0.___ I would just write for example: 70%=70 because I keep forgetting to add the 0. So it is suppose to be 0.70.
I chose to present in this format because I like doing crafts and I am good at working with clay and cardboard. With a 3d model, I think it will be helpful to be able to pick it up and look at it in detail while someone explains it to you. Also, I think working with clay can show the details of the steamboats because I can add details like a working and moving hull. Which is the thing that helps the steamboat move that works like a paddle.
Something I did well was present the model and making the 3d model of the steamboat. I added details that I thought I couldn’t add like a rotating hull to the end of the steaboat.
Something I think I could work on for next time is add MORE details to the boat. For example, I could add a background to the steamboat like the river. Also, I think I should speak louder and more clearly.
The steps I went through to finish this essay was finding articles, annotate them, and then put the main and important points of positive and negative impacts of them. Then wrote the points into an essay. Finally, I give the essay to the teacher to check and revise.
One thing I did well in my essay was that I added in good evidence from the articles. For example, I added good information that teaches the readers about the topic that I did. Which is about steamboats.
One thing I still need to learn to do is cite the articles and get better articles. I got an article that was bad for the researching because it was too short. But, I can’t find anymore articles so I just had to go with that article. Also, I need to improve on citing because I had some problems with citing because I didn’t put in the parentheses because I only thought we can just include the “According to” statement.
Part 1 Essential Question and Standard Reflection:
The essential question i chose to answer is:
“How do our body systems work together when we play our favorite sport?”
1. How did what you learn about cells and human body systems help you to answer this essential question?
Learning about cells and the human body systems helped me answer the essential question by giving me the knowledge do see what part of the cells and the body systems affect our body and help our body work together when we play sports. For example, I would be able to find out which body system works together when playing our favorite sports. I picked the sport cycling and the systems I wrote about that worked together is the muscular system and the skeletal system. Also, knowing the cells and organelles that help the systems will also help because it can tell you how the systems work. For example, in the muscular system, the mitochondria helps the most because mitochondria produces energy. And for muscles, they need energy in order to move. Thats how learning about cells and human body systems helped me answer this essential question. It makes it easier because you would already have the knowledge to answer and knowing why.
2. How does this relate to the idea that the body is a system of subsystems made up of groups of cells?
This relates to the idea that the body is a system of subsystems made up of a group of cells because this project shows how systems and the subsystems work together to help people do things. For example, I did cycling for the sports essential question and I showed how the body systems worked together to help you do the sport. I wrote about the skeletal and the muscular system. The skeletal system supports your body when you cycle and the muscular system help move your bones. When your muscle contract or relax, it can help move different bones. Which shows that these systems work together to help you do sports. Also, the cells in the system also work to make your body work. For example, in my CER, I wrote that the organelles in the cell like the ribosomes work to make the muscular system work because ribosomes produce energy. Muscles need energy to move. The essential question relates back to the idea that the body is a system of subsystems made up of a group of cells.
Part 2 Learning Experiences
Which learning experience was the most impactful or memorable for you as a learner?
I think for me, I would think that Self-directed notes, watching videos, teacher mini-lessons, dissections, group work, and modeling activities memorable for me as a learner. But the most impactful ones are self-directed notes and teacher mini-lessons because I am more of a listener and writing notes down and looking or reviewing things commonly can help me remember things I learned in classes. So I prefer the teacher teaching lessons and handing out papers and sometimes taking notes. These helped me learn about the body systems and cells the best.
Part 3 Improvements
If you could improve ONE aspect of your learning in this unit as a whole, what would it be and why? Provide a change that could enhance future learning experiences.
I think I could improve on checking the rubric more carefully and using final checklist before submitting assignments. Sometimes I forget to add things and forget things on the rubric. So I think I can improve on double checking and making sure I did everything.
This is my peer edit paper. We didn’t finish but he told me what I was missing. So I still got some feedback.
2. What are some pieces of feedback that you received and then incorporated into your work?
Some feedback I used is to add a slogan. My slogan is: “Your donation-large or small- will make a real difference.” Which is catchy and useful because people will feel better if they donate small amounts of money.
A DECIDE model can be helpful for making decisions- especially those involving peer pressure. Because of all the carful thinking and considering the consequences, and pick the most reasonable choice.
The DECIDE model stands for:
D = Define the Problem
E = Explore Your Options
C = Consider Consequences
I = Identify Your Values
D = Decide What to Do
E = Evaluate Your Decision
I learned about the effects of different substances after lesson 38. I learned about how drugs can effect teens because of how teens brains haven’t developed enough so they have a higher change to get addicted to drugs. I learned about how vapes are unhealthy because of all the chemicals in it that makes people addicted. Also, I learned about how nicotine affects your body and how you can get addicted to it.
The intended audience for this piece is everyone who use social media because cyberbullying can happen to everyone. The design strategies I used for this art piece is focus points and color psychology. The focus points on this art piece at first is the white because it is the only white and bright thing on this piece and then you get to see every details. Like the eyes, arms reaching out to get the phone, and the discouraging words. Another design strategy I used is color psychology because the red background represents suffering and overthinking. The black outlined hands represents deep, and them reaching out to you to take you away to some place you don’t know. The white eyes makes it visible and it represents people judging you while you didn’t do anything wrong.
I understood how to calculate the scale copy of the area of a figure and the scale copy of the perimeter of a figure. Which is different to calculate.
N: What new information did you learn in this unit?
New thinks I learned in this unit is how to calculate the area of a scaled copy. At first I thought that finding the area is that you need to multiply the area of the original figure with the scale copy. But then it is wrong because for area, you will need to multiply the area by the scale copy squared.
I: What was interesting in this unit?
I also think that finding the area was interesting because it was different from finding other scale copies because to find the area, you will have to multiply the original figure with the scale factor squared.
T: What was tricky for you in this unit?
I think the trickiest think in this unit for me is remembering that from the original figure to the scaled copy, it needs to multiply. I keep on forgetting and just dividing the scale copy by the original figure and getting the wrong answer.
I use to think that a Influencer is reliable by just checking the comments. But, for the influencer I did (Ashton Hall), the comments wasn’t really about how all the health information is true. I would need to actually search things up on google and click into a few websites to make sure how these health informations are really useful of helpful. But now I think that the comments will not be totally true. Some health information can only work for some people. To actually find out if the influencer is reliable is to use the CRAAP test (currency, relevance, authority, accuracy, and purpose). Which in class, we learned how to do it by picking an influencer and using the CRAAP test to find out if the health information they are posting true of fake.
Feedback for the presentation:
I liked the pictures
Your clearest/ most memorable idea was clear explanation of downsides.
This is my planning and with the final clay work, I decided to take out the flower and the dragonfly because its hard to make and it will take a lot of time. But, the final art piece actually came out pretty nice. But, for the flower I didn’t really change anything.
Heres the name project and it turned out really well. I like the letters but half way, I kinda ran out of ideas with what pattern I should draw on the letters.
How does your final clay piece and name drawing reflect different aspects of your identity?
The clay work reflects to my identity because I feel like flowers are just really pretty but I don’t really have a favorite flower type. Also, the waves represent calmness because I am really calm and quiet sometimes.
The name drawing reflects to my identity because of the symbols I drew on. The halo represents a good personality. (kind and helpful) Also, the small person in the C represents an introverted person because I’m an introvert. The pencil between the L and O means that I love drawing and doodling. Lastly, the dog on the E means that I’m a dog person. I prefer dogs over cats.
