-today we performed our chamber music piece to the class
-I think our team was partly prepared and we played OK
-we should have photocopied the piece because the 3 violins shared 1 book and it was hard for me to see the right page when we were playing. Also, I think we also should’ve printed the program notes so we could read it before the performance
-I think the feedback from our peers was helpful and we played much better than we did before we received feedback
-I did grow and I learned to be PREPARED (even though I was partly prepared) when I do things and not rush through everything
-I learned about elements of dystopian fiction like illusion of utopia and what it is
How does dystopian fiction encourage me to think about real life?
-there are actually a lot of things that we think seem WRONG with the world in dystopian fiction like how in the book, jobs are capitalized. This encourages me to think about the real world because I just think it’s NOT RIGHT and is really strange, but when I think about the real world, the 2 worlds (dystopian and real) are similar in some ways!
I enjoyed/did not enjoy the Giver
-I really enjoyed the Giver and even though this is the fourth time I’ve read the Giver, I noticed many things I haven’t noticed before when I read the book myself and I think it was really interesting to hear other people’s points and I HAVE NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT JONAS DYING AND GOING TO HEAVEN AT THE END until now
How has my ability to write academic paragraphs improved?
-I used to take a long time to write an academic paragraph (and it was bad so I had to edit it a lot), but now, I write good ones and don’t take that long because now, I can find good evidence quickly and explain it thoroughly.
How have I become better at literature discussion?
-I learned how to actually do text to real life/self/world because the book encourages me to think of our world and that has improved my skills to do text to world/self/real life. Also, I learned to think more deeply about others’ points and add on.
-We got into our group of 4 to do the Chamber Music assignment, it was easy because I joined Lizzy and Emilie with my stand partner Olivia
-All of us wanted to get Exceeding so we chose to do both the performer role and the creator role
-We looked through the pieces of music and because it was hard for us to choose a piece of music from Ms. Ziegler’s music that we all agreed on, we started looking up music online.
-We are still trying to pick a piece of music to play, so that might be a challenge because all of us like different types of music
-I am looking forward to be organizing how we play ourselves and also the piece we choose
DAY 1: We chose our recipe ( tiramisu ), determined the imperial and metric amounts needed for our recipe, make a bakery name and signature coversheet, and a recipe card
DAY 2: we calculated the unit price and batch price for tiramisu
DAY 3: we determined how much we charge for 1 serving, the amount of servings we make, the markup percentage, sell price, the profit, and how much we need to make a serving ALSO, we made a poster to summarizevthe math we did
DAY 4: we made a pitch
DAY 5: we made the tiramisu and took pics
WHAT DID I LEARN?
I learned to use unit rate, percent, and rates in real life
I learned to collaborate with other people to do projects
I learned to sell things and communicate with my customers
WHAT WORKED?
a lot of people bought our product and we earned a lot
WHAT DID NOT WORK WELL?
the price was ¥21 and was too expensive, so we changed it to ¥15.
HOW THIS IS RELEVANT FOR ME?
I learn how to buy and sell things and communicate with customers and that might help me in the future when I sell other things.
During this unit, ‘Why should we care about the past?’, I worked on
Making observations, inferences and wonderings
Using photos and articles as evidence
Writing a CER paragraph
Asking and answering open and closed questions
Taking part in the Otzi Mock Trial, my role was the arrowhead Expert Witness
What did I learn? Why should we care about the past?
We should care about the past because it helps us learn about the present and how we got here and helps us understand the past and change the future.
What worked well?
I am proud of the following work: my CER writing skills, my Timeline of Humanity, and being the expert witness in the mock trial.
I am proud of the work above because in my CER I identified specific and strong pieces of evidence to prove my claim that Otzi was not murdered by someone else. Also, in my Timeline of Humanity I included many facts about the time periods I showed in the timeline and my thoughts, questions, and when Otzi lived.
What did not work well?
I found some of this work challenging. a. the Open and Closed Questions Review Organizer
I found the work above challenging because I struggled with thinking of questions and I didn’t write a lot for my answers.
Personal Relevance
Collaboration and communications skills are important in my future because I will need to communicate and collaborate with others when I have a job.
This is a photo of my work about the Timeline of Humanity
