Unit 4 Dystopian Fiction Reflection

What did I learn about dystopian fiction?– I learned about all of the topics in dystopian fiction. For example, constant surveillance.

How does dystopian fiction invite me to think about real life?– This helps me think about real life and how it is so much more different than the community that I live in. Also, It helps me think about what other people might be going through in their life.

Why did you enjoy/ not enjoy the giver?– I enjoyed the giver because when ever we finished a chapter I would want to know what will happen next. Also, I really liked it and I know I did because it was hard to not want to read ahead.

How have I improved on my ability to write academic paragraphs?– I have improved because when we first stared common lit I couldn’t get a meeting. However, near the end I was getting some meetings in a row. I really hope that I will be able to master them in the new semester.

How am I better now in discussing with others in the lit discussions?– I am better no because I feel like the questions and ideas come faster and I feel that now I can really get deep into the book. Also, I feel like my ideas really come to life when I share with others.

Unit 2 Otzi Unit Portfolio Reflection

  1. What did I work on?
  1. During this unit, ‘Why should we care about the past?’, I worked on
  1. Making observations, inferences and wonderings
  1. Using photos and articles as evidence
  1. Writing a CER paragraph
  1. Asking and answering open and closed questions
  1. Taking part in the Otzi Mock Trial, my role was a lawyer
  1. What did I learn? Why should we care about the past?

We can learn how neolithic wo/man lived. They were resourceful for hunting for food. And they created clothes medicine from nature. They started to grow crops.  They are also the same as us, they had conflicts with other people and had the same diseases as we do. They were very innovative and resourceful.

  1. What worked well?
  1. I am proud of the following work. I worked very hard, I had a lot of questions, and we still got quite a lot of votes.
  1. I am proud of the work above because I know that if we worked a little harder, we could have won.
  1. What did not work well?
  1. I found some of this work challenging, we lost, the questions I wrote myself were not successful, and it took me a while to get the topic sentence.
  1. I found the work above challenging because we worked really hard to win.
  1. Personal Relevance
  1. Collaboration and communications skills are important in my future because I can make more friends.
  1. This is a photo of my work about me being a lawyer.

Math assesment

What did I do? Over the course of four days I and Janina have been finding unit rates, costs of ingredients and markup percents to do find out the cost of the gingerbread recipe and make our customers know how we made the cookies.

What did I learn? I learned about how to use proportions because before I was so used to using algorithm so when I used this it took getting used to. This is because before I didn’t know how to use the strategy. Something else that shocked me was how to find out the cost. I shocked me because I had never tried to do with such a big number and I didn’t know what model I should use.

What worked? What worked well was our gingerbread cookies. It worked because all the customers wanted to try our dish.

What did not work well? Something that did not work is we had so many customers so I missed a few on the paper. It is important because I could have earned more more money.

How is this relevant for me? In the future this will be relevant to me because when I am old I want to be a vet and I need to know math to be a vet. So when I am younger it is good to know math. If I open my on vet I will know how to keep my store out of debt.

Egg car

What did I do?- We were supposed to make the car go down the hill without breaking the egg.

What did I learn?-Newton’s 1st and 3rd law are seen when the car hits the block it wants to keep moving. This is for Newton’s 1st law. For Newton’s 3rd law the action is going down the hill and the reaction is the crumple zone crumpling because of force.

What worked?-Something that worked was our egg did not break. Something else that worked was that the crumple zone took in the force.

What did not work?- Something that did not work was that that the wheels kept falling off. Also the wheels were made of rubber which could have slowed down the car.

Personal Relevance- I now know that cars crumple on purpose. This is because the crumple zone takes in the force which loosens the force on the body. This increases safety.

Balloon Car

What did I do- The balloon car was built using balloons, straws, and a tray. We used the balloon car to learn about Newton’s laws. The car helped us learn about the laws because for each law we did different things, like when we added the kilograms one by one for Newton’s 2nd law.

What did I Learn- Newton’s 1st law says that an object in motions stays in motion unless acted upon by another force and an object at rest stays at rest unless acted upon by another force. We see this law with the balloon car when the car was moving and it would only be stopped by the force of friction. Newton’s 2nd law says that the more mass there is the more force is needed to accelerate the object. We see this law in action with the balloon car when we added the kilograms one by one and we checked how far it went, and by looking at it you could clearely see that it needed more force. Newton’s 3rd law says that an object actions has a reaction. We see this law in the balloon car when the balloon is pushed by the air and then it’s reaction is stoping.

What worked- the car worked well because me and Sophia worked together and agreed to do different roles. We had to make sure the balloon didn’t pop and that our car was going straight. We also hadn’t argued which makes everything soomther.

What did not work- It was a struggle when our car kept on curving and crashing in to stuff. To solve this problem we tried to adjust the metal bar. Also, from adding the kilograms the tray broke.

Personal relevance- The balloon car was like a car in real life, if I pushed it the car moved forward but eventually stopped. I see Newton’s 2nd law in real life when I see a car with heavy stuff on it. It is important to know these Laws because it helps me learn fix stuff if they didn’t have a good result before.

Health is Stealth

Puberty

It is important to learn about puberty because everybody go through it . So, when you get puberty you will be able to support your family, friends, and yourself. A change that I feel more confident about is becoming more independent. This is because I will be able to hang out with my friends alone, and will be able to go out with my friends to malls and dinner when it is dark. I am also a little nervous to get my period. This because it may hurt and I might get bad stomach aches.

Internet

I can ensure that the information I get is credible by looking at the health padlet and not looking on youtube. An aspect I want to improve on in learning is to not space out and try to focus, or I can just use real books.

It is hard for e to pronounce O in french because I always say it like I am speaking english. However, a thing that is easy is pronoucing the J’s because i know to say it like zhe in chinese. Also when I pronouce words the words in the beginning of the year It was quite hard for me to the thing with the r’s. However, now I know how to do it, I just have to make sure to remeber to do it.

Le Canada Project

The task was to make a project about a country that speaks french. To be successful you needed to have multiple facts about the country you were focusing on. I chose to research Canada for my project in french. I chose Canada because I am from there, and I know quite a lot about Canada. Some things that I brought up were Canada’s country animal, their flag, and the anniversy date. Th feedback that Ms. Inna gave was that I need to fix some of my spelling mistakes. For example, Mapple sirop. I was proud of my flag description. This is because with some help of my notebook I really improved on describing it with the colors and so on.

Creative Writing Reflection

What are we doing? Writing a fictional story based on a theme that matters to me.

What are we learning? We are learning how to make a creative written story, by learning theme, character development, plot, and setting.

What’s working? I enjoyed writing the twists. This is because the twists give character to the story, and I personally think that they are the best and most exciting parts.

Areas for growth Something that was hard for me was stretching out my work. This is because I had the whole story planned out, but it would definatley not get me to 4 pages. So, I added more twists and I made it to four pages, and as I said before writing twists is very fun.

Personal Relevance I am doing this because this will help[ me get into colleges and help me learn to write. I am also doing this because I am in school and my teacher told me to write this.
