This project involved designing a visual presentation on my chosen topic, which was race cars. I decided to construct a detailed three-dimensional model for this purpose. I selected this format because I enjoy building models, and I believe it gives the audience a more engaging experience because they can view from all sides.
One aspect I did well in was adding detail to the race car model itself. I think I need to improve my time management to work more efficiently. I also think painting the background cardboard would have significantly improved the presentation’s overall look.
To create my essay, l had to follow a process from researching to a final product. It began with selecting our topic, I chose to explore the impacts of race cars on the world and their role in advancing various fields and also the negative impacts of them. Next, I researched and found three suitable articles, put key information into a graphic organizer. Using that collected research, I analyzed and combined the details into a separate organizer to plan my essay’s content before drafting it in a Word document.
After completing the draft, I received feedback from Ms. Sawyer, which helped me in revising and improving specific sections of my essay. Going through stages of organizing, planing, writing, and editing I developed a complete essay that talked both about the negative global influences of race cars and the technological progress they helped inspire.
One thing that went well is writing the claims and making my essay organized. What I still need to learn to do is making the reasoning better and make more sense by talking about how the evidence connects with the claim. I also need to work on finding more suitable articles.
What was the essential question you chose to answer? How did what you learn about cells and human body systems help you to answer this essential question?
The essential question I chose was: What happens inside our bodies when we get sick? Learning about the functions of different body systems helps me understand the body’s response to illness. It also explains why these systems must interact with each other. This knowledge helps identify the involved systems, such as recognizing a stomach issue stems from the digestive system. Similarly, understanding organelles lets me know which ones are impacted or needed during sickness. Together, this gives me a complete picture of our internal processes when we are unwell.
How does this relate to the idea that the body is a system of subsystems made up of groups of cells?
It relates to the idea that the body is a system of subsystems made up of groups of cells because it shows me that different systems work together. It shows me the body is a system with subsystems in it working together.
Learning about the cells and cell organelles lets me know that there are cells in the different organs and there are even smaller parts in cells called organelles.
If you could improve ONE aspect of your learning in this unit as a whole, what would it be and why? Provide a change that could enhance future learning experiences.
CER writing, because if I can write a good CER it also means that I have learned all the knowledge and knows how to explain it to other people by using evidence. A change that can enhance future learning experiences is that it can help me explain to others like we have in the blind box project.
A DECIDE Model is a model that helps using make decisions that are not affected peer pressure by:
Define the problem
Explore your options
Consider the consequences
Identify you values
Decide what you want to do
Evaluate your decisions
Our project is about whether or not we should vape if our older sibling asks us to. We can say yes and do it every day, say no, or try it once. The consequences of the first one is that you might get diseases. Consequences of the first one is that you will not seem cool and you won’t have a good relationship with your sibling. Consequences of the first one is that you might get addicted. Our values are: Staying healthy, Fitting in and Good relationship with your sibling. We decided to say no and we think it’s a good decision.
I learned how to identify my values and how to make sure that my decisions are good. I also learned about the effects of different substances such as nicotine. It is called a “stress relieve” drug but it actually creates more stress because of addiction and you can’t get it.
I understood that with the same scale factor the difference between the dimensions of the original copy and the scaled copy and the difference between the areas of the original copy and the scaled copy are different.
N: What new information did you learn in this unit?
I learned how to calculate scale factors. I also learned how to use and draw different types of graphs and the percent change formula.
I: What was interesting in this unit?
Learning about scale and similar figures are interesting.
In this unit I got better at treading water so that I can stay floating and do the movements. And I also learned what an oyster is. We learned how to do rolls, how to float, how to tread water and lots of other movements. What I learned can help me in life because treading water and floating can save my life when I’m in water.
I used to think that influencers with lots followers are correct and reliable. I would check the comments to see if other people agree or think it’s false but I won’t check the information in other places. So if all people in the comments say it’s true I would believe it.
But now I will think about the accuracy of the information the influencers claim by using CRAAP to test it if the information is very important to me. Also, now when I see a claim I will think about what the influencer’s purpose is (do they want to make money or just give some advice) I won’t just do what others say.
We had an activity where we had to go on a website called Bad News, it simulate a social media platform and we have choices on what to post, but I found out that the more followers you get the harder it is for you to have a high credibility, on the opposite side if you have a high credibility it’ll be really hard for you to get followers. This activity made me think: does having a lot of followers really mean more credibility. For some influencers they might have lot’s of followers and accurate info but some don’t. That’s why I’ll think more before deciding if a health claim is true.
Bias is a perspective that prevents someone to be fair, it only lets you see one side of a story clearly. One positive outcome of people having the same perspective might be that there won’t be arguments and fights about different ideas. One negative outcome of people having the same perspective might be that it prevents people to consider different ideas and question ideas, which leads to bad decisions being made.
I am proud of the words I chose, how I explained their connotation and the effort I have put in this project. I like to keep working on the confidence while I present and doing work faster. I received feed back that told me to make my video louder so I made it louder. Some pieces of feedback that I received and then incorporated into my work is to speak louder and added more words with strong connotations.
