Art Sketchbook Cover Reflection

In art, I created a sketchbook cover that reflected on who I am. I decided to make a collage because i thought it would be a good way to show all my ideas. I first made some sketches of what I wanted the cover to look like. Then, I went online and looked for individual parts of the cover I wanted to use. I printed everything I wanted to use and glued everything onto the cover. My original plan was a little different from my final cover because during the process, I changed some ideas to make my cover look better.

My final cover

For this cover, I used a lot of newspaper to represent having expectations for my school, (grades and studies). I also added a lot of paper that had fashion prints on it because I also wanted my cover to show how I like fashion. I also added details like a sun, a star and a flower. I used the sun to show how I try to be optimistic. I also have glossy lips to show how I like glam. I also wanted the cover to show my “girly” preferences.

The main design strategies I used was balance and unity. I wanted to balance all of my parts so I placed the different parts of the background all around the cover and I made sure to have an equal amount of everything so one print wouldn’t be the main idea. For the details, I made them big to have a balance with the background. I used unity by having a specific theme or vibe that I was going for so everything I glued onto the cover would look good together.

Social Studies Unit 2: Visual Presentation

In this unit I presented my USPS mailbox I made. I also talked about the positive and negative effects of the USPS, who was responsible of the negative, what was done to fix it and etc. I chose to make a mailbox to present it because I thought that it would be a clear way to represent the postal service.

One thing I did well was that I was able to speak clearly without looking at my notes often. Something that I would do next time is to practice presenting more so I would be 100% ready.

PE Badmition Reflection

In this unit I learned of badminton. I learn and practice things like serving and drop shots. I also looked at ways and strategies to try to read what my opponent was going to do.

At first, I wasn’t able to play at all but after time and using tips I learned during class like the correct way to hold the racket, I was able to improve a lot.

Something I am proud of is that I was able to play games well because when I started this unit, I couldn’t play badminton at all.

Something I want to improve on is my serving because it doesn’t always go over the net or it does’t go diagonally.

SMART goal Reflection

In the fall, I set 2 SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-bound) goals. One of my goals were: I want to become more productive with my time so I have more free time. I also want to procrastinate less. My second goal was: I want to spend less time on my phone and social media.

Goal progress:

I feel like I made a lot of progress to work towards my goal. I reduced my average daily screen time by almost 2 hours. I also prioritize finishing my work a lot more, this also means that I procrastinate a lot less.

Challenges:

Some challenges I had was whenever I was bored, I wanted to scroll instead of doing my work. So, I tried finding books that I would want to read in my free time instead of scrolling. I also started planning out how I do my work so I can manage time better.

New Insights:

I started to pay a lot more attention to spending less time on my phone. Because of this, managing my work and everyday tasks became more relaxed and less stressful. So, I want to continue with what I’m already doing

Accomplishments:

I was able to be a lot more productive and I’m really proud of that. I have a lot more free time to do things I enjoy without having to feel stressed all the time. This aligns with my vision board because on my board, I had a lot of pictures of having time for my hobbies.

Revised Goal:

I feel like my goals are already good, but I want to change my goal of spending less time on social media(doom scrolling everyday) to only using it when I really need to and when I’m at least halfway done with my work.

Support system:

I have a big support system to help with my goals. I have friends and family that encourage me to finish all my work before I go on my phone or go out to hang out with friends. I also have friends that I study with a lot and that helps because after we study, we do things we actually enjoy like going out or watching a movie together.

Next steps:

My next steps would be using my phone even less and one thing I could do is putting it on do not disturb when I’m doing my work so I don’t get distracted easily.

Social Studies Unit 2: Essay

In this unit, I wrote an essay on the positive and negative effects the USPS on society. First I researched a lot on my topic and organized all the information I wanted to use. Then, I wrote my three body paragraphs. After I revised those, I wrote my introduction and conclusion.

One thing I think I did well was writing my CER’s. For example, I was able to write good reasoning that connected my evidence to my claim.Something that I would do next time is to use better sentence structure to make some things make more sense

Math Unit 3: Proportionality and Percentages reflection

U: What do you understand in this unit?

In this unit I understood how to use proportionality and percentages in real life scenarios like shopping. I was able to find prices, discounts, amounts, mark up and more using percentages.

N: What new information did you learn in this unit?

I learned how to use different models like tape diagrams and number lines to help me solve a percent problem. I also learned new formulas to solve percents, one of them being change/original=percent change.

I: What was interesting in this unit?

Something that was interesting to me was how I can use percents and use it in everyday life. For example, in my project, I calculated prices of a hair dryers to find out which one would be the best buy using tax, discounts and shipping fees.

T: What was tricky for you in this unit?

At first I didn’t understand how to use the models so it was hard for me to solve problems where I needed to use the models.

My summary sheet

Science Body Systems Reflection:

Essential Question: How do our body systems work together when we play our favorite sport?

I learned about body systems and cells by looking at models, articles and data. This helped me answer the question because after I learned about everything, I had enough information on how to answer the question. I also learned how the body is a system of subsystems because I focussed a lot on how different body parts work with one another. In the larger systems like organ systems, there are multiple systems within those, this helped my understanding of body systems. For the question specifically, I focussed on the digestive, nervous and muscular system. I also looked at the mitochondria and ribosomes.

Learning Experiences:

For me, analogies worked really well because I could think of the cell organelles as something I am more familiar with. Another thing that helped me was the independent research projects like the blind box project. I was able to go at my own pace and research things I was still confused on.

Improvements:

Something I want to improve on are my CER’s. I want to start relating my evidence to my claim better, (reasoning). I want to make more meaningful reasoning in the future.

Health Unit 3 Healthy Decision Making Reflection

What did I do?:

In this unit I focussed on using the DECIDE method to make healthy decisions. The DECIDE model stands for Define the problem, Explore your options, Consider the consequences, Identify your values, Decide what to do, and Evaluate your decision . This strategy is helpful when you have to make difficult decisions especially ones related to peer pressure. Using a DECIDE model helps you make the best decisions for yourself. I also looked at different websites that could help teens answer questions about substances and peer pressure. These websites had facts about drugs and substances that are easy for teens to understand. There are strategies to cope with stress , getting help for you or a friends and helplines made for teens.

My groups DECIDE model

Substance use:

In this unit I learned a lot about the effects of different substances. One main topic we focussed on was addiction. What I know about this is that its very hard to stop addiction because your body is already used to the substance and can’t function without it. Substances can have severe effects like organ failure and death.

Scenarios:

My group and I looked at different scenarios and created a DECIDE model for it. We had to think about what would be the best choice for the person in the scenario. We were given research resources to find out more about the substance we were looking at(vapes).

Math Unit 2: Proportionality and Scale Drawings

U: What do you understand in this unit?

From this unit I know that scale drawings might not look similar in size but all the proportions are the same. I understood that there are many ways to find the scale factors for both the area and the dimensions.

N: What new information did you learn in this unit?

I learned how to find all the scale factors with formulas like how the scale factor is copy over original. I also reviewed unit conversions when looking at scale drawings.

I: What was interesting in this unit?

Something that was interesting was how there are many ways to find specific measurements.

T: What was tricky for you in this unit?

Sometimes there were questions that I didn’t really understand so I would solve it the wrong way. So, I started trying to read the question more than once to make sure I fully understood the question.

🏊🏼‍♀️PE Swimming Reflection💃🏽:

What did I do?

In this unit I got into groups with my friends and created a routine in the pool. We used new skills and skills we already knew to help build our preformance/

What did I learn?

I learned multiple different types of floating and skulling. I also learned new skills like lifts and flips in and into the water.

What worked for me?

I was able to chose my own groups so I knew that I could work really well with my group. We collaborated together to create a routine we all enjoyed and could do.

What is something I want to improve on?

I want to start doing newer skills instead of going back to skills I already knew to make the performance better.
