Unit 4 Dystopian Fiction Reflection

What Did I Learn About Dystopian Fiction?

I learned the characteristics of Dystopian Fiction. For example, Totalitarianism, Dehumanization, Illusion of Utopia, etc.

All Types of Characteristics in The Dystopian Fiction ‘The Giver‘ 👇🏻

How Does Dystopian Fiction Encourage Me To Think About Real Life?

It encourages me to think about real life because Dystopian Fiction often includes the characteristics above. And these characteristics can be happening in real life. For example, Totalitarianism. North Korea is a example of Totalitarianism. In the ‘The Giver’, one part of the book is about ‘The community made love disappeared so there’s no war. War is a bad thing so it’s good. But love is a good thing, which is bad. Because there’s no war, it causes a illusion of utopia. And it encourages me what will happen in this world if there’s no war and love.

I Enjoyed The Giver, because it was a quite fun book learning how that world works. At first I didn’t understand at all! But by starting to understand the world (community), it was quite fun! Learning assignments, release, ceremonies. Some were shocking!

How Has My Ability To Write Academic Paragraph Improved?

My ability to write Academic Paragraph improved, now I can write a good topic sentence, get evidence and write reasonings, write down my thinking. I can also easily conclude the paragraph.

How Have I Become Better at Literature Discussion?

I learned skills like validating, writing notes, add on, paraphrase what other said and add on. I can know I improved because I can more easily add on other, say my thinking more easily.

Unit 2 Chamber Music Orchestra Reflection

Reflection #1

What was challenging about forming the groups? I had 2 choices. Either 4 CELLOS or Joshino. I chose Joshino because he was alone.

What is/was challenging about choosing music? It was challenging because there’s lot of music we know, but we don’t know we can play well, we like it, etc.

What music did you choose and why? We chose the music ‘Step Dance’ from the book Ms, Ziegler. We chose that because it looked like a good music to play together.

What are anticipated challenges for this music? The anticipated challenges for this music could be how well we play together, especially beat.

What are you looking forward to when learning this music? Increased cooperation, beat control skill.

Reflection #2

  • What did you accomplish today? We finished practicing half of the piece together.
  • What was challenging about playing together? The stand was not stable, so we had to put it up a bit, which covered up some parts of the piece. Also the stand kept turned down, so the music kept fell off. At first, playing together with the same beat was hard, but later on it became better and better.
  • What will you work on next time? Completing the whole piece! (This lesson finished half)

Reflection 3

  • How was your performance in the previous class? Good, but not perfect. We did some mistakes.
  • What feedback did you acquire? To practice together more because one did and on didn’t do repeat. Also, the ‘feedbacker’ said we paused in the middle and continued.
  • What was the goal you prioritized from your feedback? Our goal changed to “Know Doing Repeat or Not, Better Cooperation”
  • What did you do in rehearsal today? Practicing with out Joshino..
  • Are you ready for your performance on Monday? Quite/Yes

  • Reflection4
  • How did your performance go today? Were you prepared?
  • I was quite prepared, but we didn’t started up
  • If you were not prepared, what would’ve helped you become prepared?
  • We could have done better if we had one more rehearsal, because our start was not good.
  • Do you feel the feedback from peers was helpful? Why or why not?
  • It was helpful if we actually did it, but we missed that practice time together. The feedback was to practice more together, but we missed that time.
  • How did you grow and how do you know?
  • I think I grew on cooperation, practicing music together well. I know this because I practiced better together than last year when practicing chamber music.

Orchestra Reflection

Music We Played:

Where Falcons Fly

Thundersnow

Sweet Petite Winter

Burst

Winter With You (Collab with VMM)

What We Learned:

-Playing Techniques

-Musical Elements

-Songs

-Games -Pass The Beat A-round The Room -Beat Tag -Hide The Bow

Art Reflection (Clay)

a) What objects did you choose to make while exploring clay processes in class?

I chose to make Coke and for the smaller piece, I made a whale with fishes on it.

b) You’ve learned to knead, wedge, slab, pinch, roll, slip, score and blend clay. These are clay handling techniques. What other actions have you made on the clay works that may not have been mentioned?

Beside knead, wedge, slab, pinch, roll, slip, score and blend clay, we also learned coiling, joining, making pinch pot and how to use tools.

c) What have you found challenging about clay? What strategies have you used, or could use to overcome these challenges?

I found challenging on making the bottle for the coke. I supposed to make a pinch pot with flat bottom and should keep join the coil and blend it. I made a cylinder, which is not really correct. I started to join the coil on the cylinder, so if I put a brush in, I can feel it’s not deep. Also, it was hard to knead. I kept putting water, fold, press. And the clay was softer.

Orchestra Rose, Bud, Thorn Reflection (Winter Concert)

Leo CHU F2

🌹Rose:

I think we did well in dynamics. For example, for Hot Chocolate, we did p (piano [small]) and that helps the audience to know better that this song is heart warming.

I think we did well in Where Falcons Fly. Especially knowing the beats. For example, we did perfect beats when we’re doing the same repeating note in a same speed.

🌷Bud:

I think we can improve by getting more space when we’re doing Winter With You. Because My partner keep bumping me and I keep bump my partner.

I also think we can make specific spot for each player (Cello). Because I saw someone saying “Which one’s my cello?”

Thorn:

The transition between arco and pizzicato was hard, because we had to transfer quickly.

The Winter With You was hard because we had to put our end pins next to the chair leg that was in front of us. And it kept slipping off!

Unit 2 Ötzi Reflection

Leo CHU B1 🟥

What did I work on?

During this unit, ‘Why should we care about the past?’, I worked on

  1. Making observations, inferences and wonderings
  1. Using photos and articles as evidence
  1. Writing a CER paragraph
  1. Asking and answering open and closed questions
  1. Taking part in the Otzi Mock Trial, my role was Defense Lawyer 1.

What did I learn? Why should we care about the past?

We should care about the past because we can know how early humans lived, we can understand the past and change the future.

What worked well?

I am proud of the following work; opening statement and cross examination.

I am proud of the work above because I informed the judge what we’re going to persuade the members of the jury and the judge. And I did well in cross examination because I made the expert witnesses agree on our side.

What did not work well?

I found some of this work challenging, saying the script on the microphone.

I found the work above challenging because it made me nervous and I used few filler words.

Personal Relevance

Collaboration and communications skills are important in my future because I will have problems in the future, and I can communicate with my friends and solve the problems, making great teamwork!

This is a photo of my work about the prep work for the mock trial.

Math Reflection (Bake Sale!!! [Unit 3 Rates and Percent])

What Did I Do?

In Day 1, we chose the recipe we’re gonna make, and then we converted the imperial to metric amounts we needed for 1 batch.

In Day 2, we calculated the cost of ingredients needed.

In Day 3, we calculated the cost of 1 batch, and 1 serving. Additionally, we calculated the mark-up price, and the sell price.

In Day 4, we explained our process to our customer, and we sold our cookies. We calculated profits!

What Did I Learn

I learned…

  • How to get a unit rate using rate.
  • How to calculate mark-up price and %
  • How to calculate profit
  • How to use different models to show my work.

What Worked?

  • We sold all the cookies in 20 minutes!
  • We calculated the final profit, which was ¥92. Formula: Profit = Income ( ¥210) – Cost (¥118)
  • We successfully explained our process in the bake sale.

What Did Not Worked?

  • We took long to calculate the final profit.

How This Is Relevant For Me?

  • This bake sale helped me learn how to calculate profit! And this could help me in the future when I do work. This helps me how much money I get per product sold.
  • This also helped me learn changing rate into unit rate, and by using, that, I can convert two rates into unit rates, and I can compare them. I can use this skill when I want to compare rates.

Science Reflection – Egg Car Challenge!

What Did I Do?

We made a egg car that have to be 16.5cm long, 6.5cm for width. We have to make a safe car only using limited materials.

What Did I Learn?

We saw Newton’s 1st law in action when the car crashed into the cement block and the egg try to keep moving forward.

We saw Newton’s 3rd law in action when the car hit the cement block, the cement block pushed back the egg car, so the car stopped in place.

We learned about parts in a actual car that makes the car safer. For example, Bumper, safety cell, crumple zone, etc.

What Worked?

The airbag (Bumper) worked well because it reduced the force, lowering the force of egg flying out.

The seatbelt and the safety cell worked well too because the egg didn’t flew out.

What Did Not Worked?

The wheels were not stable, so the wheel fell out, and the car’s direction twisted, and that’s how our car got flipped.

If we do it next time, we would make sure the wheels are stable.

Personal Relevance

It is important to know Newton’s Laws because the science is used to develop safety parts in vehicle which reduce force made when the car crash to keep us safe. When a car hit the wall, the outside force/unbalanced force (wall) stops the car, but the people inside will fly out if there’s not any safety parts.

Our Egg Car

Front (Bumper and Airbag). Side (Wheels). Top (Safety Cell and Seatbelt)

Unit 2 – Force and Newton’s Law; Balloon Car Science

What did I do?

-The balloon car was built using straw, tray, axles, wheels, tape, and a balloon.

-We used it to learn about net force, Newton’s Laws. (1st, 2nd, 3rd)

-We used free-body diagram to represent the force applied, friction, gravity, normal.

What did I learn?

-Newton’s first law says object in rest stay in rest, object in motion stay in motion, it will not change unless a external force affect the object. We saw this law in action when we didn’t applied force, the balloon car didn’t moved.

-Newton’s second law says ‘Force = Mass x Acceleration’. We saw this law in action when we putted more washer, the ballon car traveled shorter.

-Newton’s third law says, for every action, there is a equal but opposite reaction. We saw this law in action when the ballon car hit the chair leg, the chair leg pushed back the balloon car.

What Worked?

-I did great my partner (@Gwen), because we each did a role, like washer putter, air putter. I also did well on measuring the distance traveled, using a quick way. One more thing that worked well was that the balloon car was constructed well, it can carry many washers, because it have enough force to make good speed.

What Did Not Worked?

-Our car always didn’t went straight because I loosened the back wheel’s axle a bit.

-Our balloon car didn’t work at first few lesson, because the end (Straw) was tighten too tight.

-My partner (@Gwen) was sick, so I missed some time I can work together, making the balloon car better.

Personal Relevance

The balloon car was like real car in the world, so when I see a car, I would know the wheel is push the ground (applied) and the ground will push back, which make the car move.

-I see Newton’s 1st law when I see a soccer ball stays right where the ball is, the ball doesn’t move unless a external force affects it.

-It’s important to know these three laws because I have to know how the object move why it doesn’t move… etc.
