Unit 4 Dystopian Fiction Reflection

What did I learn about dystopian fiction?

In this unit I learned about all the new topics that was related to Dystopian fiction. For example, Social control or Totalitarianism.

How does dystopian fiction invite me to think about real life?

This book specifically, made me realize how cruel the real world is. Dystopian fiction makes me reflect on real world problems that I didn’t know and made me think more deeply about those problems to see how big that problem is. For example, some parts of the giver reflects about racism making me realize how big of a problem it was and it still is.

Why did you enjoy/not enjoy the giver?

I really enjoyed the giver because it taught me many new life lessons and the plot was very fun to read. The author wrote in way that made you want to read more. I don’t read a lot but this book was so interestingly scary which made me finish the book.

How have I improved on my ability to write academic paragraphs?

In the begging of this unit, I hade little to no knowledge about writing a academic paragraphs, but soon learned more about it using the Commenlit assignments to practice and to master the skill. In the end I learned how to write a good academic paragraphs with examples from the book.

How am I better now in discussing with others in the Lit-discussions?

Before this unit, I hade no idea how to have a Lit-discussion is and, how to have a good discussion with someone. But now I know how to have a engaging discussion with somebody else. I also know how to challenge someone in a polite way, while still admiring their opinion.

Look In The Mirror

What safety behaviors are most important?

I think that wearing helmets when riding bikes and, fastening your seatbelt is most important since many accidents happen in the streets.

5 Trusted people

The people I can trust the most are the people in my friend group, and there is exactly 5 people excluding me. They comfort me when I feel uncomfortable and unsafe.

How does tech/social media affect teens?

It can Influence teens into new and better hobbies, but also into dangerous trends.

What are some strategies you can use to protect yourself in every day life?

When I’m playing games I won’t talk to strangers, I will look both ways before crossing the street, and I will think twice before doing anything.

What would be the biggest takeaway you have?

Not everything in the internet is true.

Unit 2 Otzi Unit Portfolio Reflection

  1. What did I work on?
  1. During this unit, ‘Why should we care about the past?’, I worked on
  1. Making observations, inferences and wonderings
  1. Using photos and articles as evidence
  1. Writing a CER paragraph
  1. Asking and answering open and closed questions
  1. Taking part in the Otzi Mock Trial, my role was expert witness
  1. What did I learn? Why should we care about the past?
  1. We should care about the past because
  1. We can learn how Neolithic wo/men lived
  1. They were very resourceful hunting for food, created clothes, tools, and medicine from nature.
  1. Started to grow crops
  1. Same conflict and diseases as us
  1. Very Innovate + resourceful
  1. What worked well?
  1. I am proud of the following work taking part of the court, gaining expert witness knowledge, and writing a CER for Otzi the ice man.
  1. I am proud of the work above because I answered the questions that the lawyers asked thoughtfully, gained so much more knowledge about the past, and learned how to write a CER for the first time.
  1. What did not work well?
  1. I found some of this work challenging, like taking part in court, gathering information, and answering open and closed questions.
  1. I found the work above challenging because I found myself stuttering and moving allot during the trial, gathering enough information to answer questions, and I found myself mixing up open questions with closed ones and answering the lawyers’ question incorrectly.
  1. Personal Relevance
  1. Collaboration and communications skills are important in my future because I can take part in an even bigger project without lots of arguments and learn new things in a fun way.
  1. This is a photo of my work about the mock trial.

Bake Sale Project

What did I do?

In this project we did a bake sale at school. On day one we found three recipes provided with links and fulfills all of the restrictions, we also provided our chosen recipe and articulated why we made this choice, lastly we used the provided conversation sheets to determine both the imperial and metric amount needed for each ingredient in the recipe. On day two we provided all the unit rate with the proper unit labels and used proper vocabulary, and we also provided all of the batch and respective calculations for each ingredient. On day three we provided clear mathematical explanation for cost of one batch of the recipe , how many servings provided, and the cost of each serving. We also determined a percentage markup and sail price providing a mathematical model. On day 4 we pitch-based off of the math poster, and we wrote a pitch that articulated how we determined our price. Lastly, we took photos of each other buying the ingredients and baking our brownies!

What did I learn?

On day one we learned how to determine both. the imperial and metric amounts needed for the recipe. On day two we learned how to provide all the unit rates using the proper unit labels and using the proper vocabulary given. On day three we learned how to provide a clear mathematical explination for the cost of one batch of the recipe, and we also learned how to determine the percentage markup and sail price using a mathematical model. On day four, we learned how to write a pitch based off of our math poster s and we determined our sail price based off of our markup.

What worked?

Our total income was way more then we expected. I think the reason why we sold out in the first place was to act like we sold out. what I did was “Would you like a brownie? There are only three left.” Then the customer would think their money is worth more and buy our brownies! But was also added a bunch of decor to catch the customers eyes.

What did not work?

when we were baking, the oven was broken so the brownies did not cook. but later on we went to Josh’s house to bake the brownies. all though all of this took over 5 hour it was worth it.

How Is this relevant to me?

Honestly, i don’t think this will ever be useful in my life, but I do know that knowing this I can determine the cheaper item when I need to.

Egg Car

What Did I do?

The criteria for the egg car was to build a car for an egg and make the egg survive when it hits a wall。

What did I learn?

We learned how newtons 1st and 3rd law applies to the egg car。We see Newton’s first law in action when the car hits the wall and the egg wants to keep on moving。 We see Newton’s 3rd law in action when car hits the wall the wall hits back with a equal and opposite reaction。

What Worked?

The crumble zone worked well because we added a lot of springs to reduce the amount of force that the wall pushes back at the car。We had to make sure that there where enough springs to prevent the wall to hit the egg directly。

What Did Not Work?

Some cars did not roll well, it slided. To solve this problem they would have to make sure there was enough space between the car and the wheel so that it can roll not slid.

Personal Relevance

It is important to know Newton’s Laws because the science is used to develop new technology in a vehicle which can keep us safe. It also helps new scientists and engineers to develop new safe things. It will help my future self when creating new stuff.

Graphic Design Unit

Our first unit was Graphic Design. During this unit, we made a personalized product for your customer. In my case It was Tara, and she wanted a coaster. First I made a design that satisfied my customer, next I used ply wood and a lazer cutter to bring the design to life, and I made adjustments like sanding it down, adding color, and a cork to protect the table. Lastly my customer gave me advice for the future.

Balloon Car

What did I do?

The balloon car was made from a balloon, a rubber band, bottle caps, glue/tape, and a piece of cardboard. We tried to make the balloon car dive forward fast but still in a stable line. We used it to learn about Newton’s 3 laws of motion.

What did we learn?

Newton’s first law says that a object at rest will stay at rest, and a object in motion will stay in motion unless a outside force works upon it. We see this law in action with the balloon car when the ballon car is first at rest and then when we let go of the ballon, it pushes out air to move the car. Newton’s second law says a force is equal to a object mass and acceleration. We see this law in motion with the balloon car when the force of the balloon car needs to be enough so that the Newton’s third and final law says that for every action there is a equal and opposite reaction. We see this law in motion with the balloon car when I let go of the balloon (Action) The air from the balloon gets pushed out and moves forward (Reaction)

What worked?

Filling up the balloon with the right amount worked because when we let go off the balloon it was steady, not to fast not too slow. We had to add the right amount because if there was too much air it would be too fast and lose control. If there was too less air then there would not be enough force to shush the car forward.

What did not work?

The balloon car was struggling when it was not facing the right direction. To solve this problem we made sure the ballon cart was facing the right direction so that it could go strait without hitting in to anything when we let go of the cart. We tried to face it to the wall but sometimes it would just turn to the side and bump in to chair.

Personal relevance

The balloon car was like a car in the real world, When i let go of the balloon. I see newtons 1st law in real life when I kick a ball, a ball is in rest and will stay at rest unless I kick the ball and when the ball will be forever in motion unless another force acts upon it (Friction). It’s important to know these laws because it helps scientist and engines to build/event safe products. (Coaster).

Creative Writing Reflection

What are we doing?

Writing a fictional story based on a theme that matters to me.

What are we learning

Theme (My purpose for writing this story, my message to readers.)

Whats working?

I really enjoyed panning and writing my ending fir my story, it made me really happy writing a clift hanger. I proud of being able to collaborate with a partner, and writing a story entertaining with lots of twists. The Best Lime from My Story-I can’t stop crying, my scars are showing again.

Areas for growth

It was difficult to write with lots of purpose and meaning since I write most of the time for entertainment. Altho I did not do my best but it was fun to write with purpose and a reason why I want to write. I faced these challenges thinking about what I want to tell the world and talked about it with a partner.

personal relevance

Writing this made me think about my own life and reflection on it. Writing this will also benefit my future self, helping me write with more passion and purpose.

Critical thinking With GraviTrax and Indi

What did I do?

I played with some Indi robot cars and GraviTrax to strengthen my critical thinking skills.

What did I learn?

Critical thinking is solving problems using logic, reasoning, creativity, and problem solving.

What Did not work?

I struggled to be able to make the marble go the right way and also figuring out which color went the right way direction.

What worked?

I thought critically when I figured out what the color cards ment and what directions it gave the robot.

Personal Relevance

Today’s learning will help me with future problems that are difficult and help me learn which way is the fastest way to solve problems.

Unit 1 Olympic Portfolio Reflection

  1. What did I work on?
  1. During this unit, Campaign for the Olympics, I worked on a presentation about why my country should host the 2030 Olympic games on Copenhagen, Denmark. We learnt about the history of the Olympic games, we worked on researching our county by using the SAS Databases and locating evidence about our country, we worked on using persuasive reasoning to convince the IOC to select our country to host the next Olympic games. I created a PPT using images from the SAS Databases. I worked on practicing my script out loud and used my note cards.
