Apprenticeship Activities Reflection

Creative Learner

In the creativity section of my coursework, I integrated tasks from other subjects to enhance my learning experience. For my theatre class, I designed a set for a conceptual show, which required me to tap into my creative skills. This project provided me with new perspectives on how to use the tools at my disposal to bring out the best in myself.

Rather than using conventional CAD software, I chose using the game Minecraft, a platform I was more familiar with. This choice allowed me to explore design in a more engaging and simple way. By utilizing Minecraft’s mechanics and some external midifications, I could visualize and construct the set dynamically that could better show my creative skills.

In this section, I fully embraced my creativity to find unique solutions for completing assigned tasks and assessments. Moreover, creativity plays a vital role in personal expression, enabling individuals to communicate their thoughts and feelings. This experience not only enhanced my design skills but also reinforced the importance of creativity in both academic and personal contexts.

Critical Thinker

It was challenging to find something to show my critical thinking skills, but I persevered and used my Critical Thinking Skills to try and find things to show my Critical Thinking Skills. So I decided to play a traditional board game called gomoku. it involves two sides holding black or white pieces trying to get five in a row on a grid. The game really challenged by spatial awareness and planning skills. I also engaged in a quest online to find logical fallacies online. Critical thinking tasks enhances our ability to identify biases and approach issues from multiple perspectives. In this case, I discovered elements from various sources like biases and misinformation. Sometimes these fallacies help companies advertise to make them seem “smart” and leave an impression on the consumer. Other times they are used to make a statement on an important matter to influence what people think.

Resilience

Entering 9th grade, I realized the importance of independence. Losing something at school meant I had to search for it myself, emphasizing the need for responsibility and awareness in life. nobody reminded you to complete homework or schoolwork. My experiences instilled in me the value of consistency and responsibility. Resilience became essential, enabling me to confront challenges with strength and adaptability—qualities crucial for success in school. Engaging in activities like regularly washing and grooming a pet helped me develop discipline and taught me to adhere to responsibilities, even when faced with obstacles. Overall, these lessons shaped my understanding of how independence and resilience are vital in navigating academic and personal challenges.

Skillful Communicator

During the semester, I participated in English tutoring lessons with “students” from diverse backgrounds who were involved in hospitality services at the school. This unique experience was transformative, as it taught me how to convey key concepts clearly and concisely while assuming the role of a teacher. Being in this position allowed me to step into my teachers’ shoes, gaining insight into their challenges and responsibilities.

Working with individuals from various cultures and experiences broadened my understanding of different communication styles. I learned to adapt my teaching methods to suit the needs of each student, which significantly enhanced my ability to engage and connect with them. This switch in roles not only improved my communication skills but also boosted my confidence in interacting with people.

Overall, this experience was invaluable. It encouraged me to be more empathetic and understanding, recognizing the importance of clarity and effectiveness in communication. The lessons I learned about adaptability and the significance of concise messaging will undoubtedly serve me well in both academic and personal settings as I continue to grow and develop my skills.

Effective Collaboration

Collaboration is essential in both school and life, improving teamwork and problem-solving. In school, I engaged in “bridge building” which involved building a bridge out of only paper. through collective effort we figure out that folding a zig-zag could hold lots of weight. This project required communication, creativity, and the ability to incorporate diverse perspectives, mirroring real-world scenarios where collaboration is crucial.

Creating a new club is another excellent example of collaboration in action. Me and my partner designed a club along with a mission statement and plan involving “minimalist shoes”. This process not only enhances leadership skills but also promotes a sense of community and belonging.

Ultimately, collaboration cultivates essential skills like communication, adaptability, and empathy, making it a cornerstone of personal and professional success.

less is more

Try writing a meaningful paragraph with 20 words only.

words I chose:

I, is, am, can, and, get, be, to, in, School, knowledge, life, good, improves, life, needed, helpful, make, decision, successful

School is good. In school I get knowledge, and knowledge is good. knowledge improves my life. In life, knowledge is needed to be successful. I get knowledge and I can be helpful and make good decisions.

Gomoku-mentary🧠⚫️⚪️

Because of my ethnic background, I have come in contact with Gomoku in my previous years. With the experience I have, I could beat some peers with relative ease. The game highlights skills of spatial awareness and rewards those that are familiar with specific patterns that could lead to success if the opponent does not notice it.

Meditation 🧘

I saw it, I thought, why not? 10 minutes of meditation really would help alleviate some stress. So I took 10 minutes of my Sunday afternoon time to meditate and see what it would do. At first, it was hard to stay still, I wanted to go do something more active and staying still actually felt tiring. But then, my mind and body slowly relaxed and I felt like I was above it all, that I just exited my body and I’m looking through a 5th dimension. It was wonderful, really, and well worth 10 minutes of my time.

“RED”🩸

“RED” is the name we gave for the conceptual show we designed a set for in the course: Intro to Theatre. The basis of the show is the story of little red riding hood, but set in a metropolitan city on the “other side of town” where the atmosphere isn’t exactly harmonious and positive. The show includes aspects of gang violence and the struggles of a lower-middle class family. In the show, the grandmother of little red riding hood fails to pay back her debts to the local gangs and is kidnapped. The gang then impersonates the grandmother to trick little red riding hood into coming into the apartment and plans on kidnapping her as well. The set design is that of the grandmother’s apartment, where little red riding hood steps into the apartment, wondering where her grandma is.

We ended up deciding to complete the set in Minecraft due to simplicity and ease of use/collaboration. We brainstormed ideas with the AI model StableDiffusionXL and drafted a ground plan for our set as well.

The final project is as shown below:

We even had a working elevator

Ozymandias𓁈

The poem Ozymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley discusses the ruins of a once great civilization:

Nothing beside remains. Round the decay

Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare

The lone and level sands stretch far away.

And it’s prideful leader:

My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;

Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!

The poem teaches us important lessons of humility and the grandness of the endless “sands” of time. In the poem, Ozymandias’s pride and ego is contrasted with the now wrecked civilizations that was once “great”. The poem serves as a reminder to be humble and modest in your speech and actions.

The lone and level sands stretch far away

Three Hours 🕒

The song has a melancholic tone, with both artists interpreting the style in their own ways. The original singer, Nick Drake, has a larger instrumental aspect of the song and some parts of his voice are drowned out by the guitar playing. In Chris Brain’s interpretation, the guitar and his voice play an equally important role. Another difference is the accent, which highlights the regional differences of their backgrounds.
