What are we doing?
We are doing a unit of understanding the ancient silk road. We discovered highly valuable goods from different regions, and how it will be used to trade for more goods later in the activity. We studied about facts and cultural events from each regions, and geographical knowledge from the silk road map. We did all kinds of activities like map discovering, trading, and worksheets.
What are we learning?
We learned about the process of trading, understanding the silk road map, and how valuable goods had advantages. To deeply discover the process of trading, we did an activity of simulation. We simulated the experience of trading across places and getting advantages by helping others. We hand crafted the geographical topography which is the mountain, rivers, sea, and deserts. Then we placed them in the correct places.
What’s working?
We successfully ended the trading simulation and ended the unit by doing an assessment. I believe it was a fun experience for everyone by having fun while learning.
What’s not working?
Ending the simulation was a chaos. It was mostly because of the disease cards that are past out randomly in regions and spread in a huge amount.
The three norms of collaboration are putting ideas on the table, paying attention to myself and other, and pausing.
I am strongest at paying attention at myself and others because I needed to listen and participate in the plan so that I can express my opinion by listening to others ideas in activities.
I need to improve on putting ideas on the table because I was mostly listening to others plan to make our region successful, so I was mostly asking questions but not really putting ideas on the table.
During the silk road economy unit, I liked trading the most because even though it was loud and chaos. It was still a fun activity to do by being sneaky, hiding diseases, getting advantages and collaborating with other regions.
