SMART Goal Vision Board Reflection

I have made progress towards achieving my goal. But I didn’t exactly achieve 100% of it. I am trying really hard to answer questions when there’s the opportunity to. But I am also concerned about answering in front of the whole class when I am not sure about my answer. So, this is one of my obstacles that is “stopping” me from completing my SMART GOAL. Also, when I completed my vision board, I thought completing this goal wouldn’t be a really hard challenge for me, since being more active in class has been a goal for me for quite a long time. However, when I started to work on it and really tried to make progress on it, I realized it’s not that easy, especially when I hate public speaking. So, in the middle of November, I revised my goal it raising my hand at least 2 times in each class, and once I achieve or go above it, the feeling of accomplishment is great. And, I think at the end of 7th grade, at the start of 8th grade, I can work towards raising my hand at least 4 times in each class.

Social Studies Unit 2: Visual Presentation

In this unit we have to choose a creative way to present the type of transportation/communication technology we wrote an essay about(the transportation I chose was automobiles). I chose to shoot a stop motion video. I chose to do a stop motion because I enjoy creating art and exploring new things. Also, when we think of automobiles it connect to words like driving, fast, moving, etc… So, I think making a stop motion video would be perfect.

I think I did really well on creating this video. This is because I think I did really well on drawing all the elements in the video, shooting the whole thing, and editing out the video(such as, including sound effect, voiceovers , and editing the whole video to make everything flow smoothly). And, because of all of these, I am really proud of what I’ve done.

I think I need to work on using not as many filler words while presenting in front of a crowd. This is because I used several ‘um’, ‘uh’, and ‘like’ while presenting, and I think my speech would flow more smoothly and the whole experience of listening to my speech would be better as well. So, next time I want to improve on using less or none filler words in my presentation.

Social Studies Unit 2: Essay

This essay is about the automobile’s impact on American society. First, I have to research on different websites and annotate on paper. After this, I can transfer my notes (that’s on paper) onto research organizers online. Finally, I can use my organizers to assist me in writing out my essay.

I think I did really well on my reasonings for this essay. This is because I elaborated, gave out several examples and I didn’t just repeat my evidence. This is a huge improvement for me this is because in 6th grade I have a really hard time writing out a high quality reasoning.

I still need to work on my conclusion. This is because the grade for my conclusion is the only one that got a 3 while all of my other parts in my essay(Claim, Evidence, Reasoning and writing style). So next time I want to improve my conclusion into a 4.

Unit 3 Proportionality and Percentages

I have learned a lot of new information in this unit such as, using the percent equations, and proportion equations to figure out the missing part of a equation/question(the tax, the tip, interest rate, total amount, etc…).

The new information I learned was finding the tax and tip in a problem. This is because while learning about finding the tax and tip, I am always confused about the order of it(whether tip comes first or tax comes first). Now I know, you tip the amount before tax is added.

One interesting part of this unit was being able to compare real life things you would buy using probability and percentages. For me, I compared earbuds in 3 different brands(Apple, JBL and Bose). I have made a whole presentation of me finding the price after discount, the amount saved and finding the total amount including tax.

One challenge for me was about finding the tax and tip. Especially in CFU’s I am afraid I won’t get the question correct because I am confused whether I should tip the tax or tax the tip. After more learning and practice, I know that you tip the amount before tax is added.

Me as a Collaborator

I would rate myself as a meeting for collaboration. This is because I actively interact positively with my new table mates and my partner(s) either for turn and talk or projects. However, I think that in order for me to reach an exceeding in collaboration, I need to be more engaged(such as raising my hand more often)in class.

I think another student will describe me as a more of quiet people referring to my behavior towards the whole C1 class. But, my table mates will describe me as a more active and lively person.

I would improve my collaboration skills my volunteering to collaborate/work with people that I won’t normally hangout with. This way I would improve my collaboration skills and I won’t be as nervous while presenting because I am more familiar with them(I won’t be as nervous if I made a mistake or in general presenting in front of them).

U2 ELA Summatives Reflection

I improved a lot in my summatives compared to my formatives. For the summatives we did a pitch presentation, CERER and a outline. For my formatives I’ve got approaching for my conventions and for my CERER summative I got a 4 on my conventions. Also, for the outline, in-class assesment, and pitch presentation I got 4 for all of them!

I am really proud of myself for studying hard and reviewing for my summatives. I am extra proud for myself because that even though I am nervous for the all the summatives, I still did pretty well. This means that all my hard work paid off.

1 challenge for me is presenting in front of the whole class. I presented a lot in 7th grade and in the past few years, but presenting in front of a whole group has always been a challenge for me. Fortunately, I overcame this challenge and did really well on my pitch presentation.

I have made plans and asked Ms. Devin for feedback and how to improve before my summative. I used Flint to give me practice paragraphs to work on for my conventions but it didn’t really work, so I used other AI tools to help me.

If I could redo my summative I would improve my wording for my claim. This is because in my CERER I got a meeting for my claim, while my other standards got exceeding. And, if I change a small wording problem for my claim I would’ve got an exceeding for my claim as well. The advice that I would give myself would be to always be extra prepared because that it will be more likely for me to get the grade that I am aiming to get.

GOAL: My goal is to engage more and use my time wisely for learning something new or preparing for a test.

Unit 2 Cells and Body System

For this project, I chose to do it about how does our body systems work together to play our favorite sport. In this project I learned a lot about body systems, cells and organelles. This is because, at the start of this unit I know nothing about body systems and cells. And, now I can make projects and teach people about it! In this project I learned that in order to perform only one movement, multiple(a lot) body systems have to work together in order to perform one move. It is just like how cells how to team up/build up in order to form a tissue, and tissues can form up organs, etc…

In this unit, I think that the Gimkits and dissection activites helped me learn the best. This is because while enjoying the game(Gimkit) we have to answer a large amount of question in order for us to continue or gain energy, this is a very helpful way reviewing and learning new information. Also, the dissection helped me see better what each organ did and where exactly organs/small details are located.

I would like to work towards the extension opportunities such as L4 options. This is because for most of the time I meet the standards for my projects or L2 quizzes. So, I think it is great to try and go for more when I have this opportunity.

DECIDE Model

This model is really helpful because this allows us to think of things that will effect us both positively and negatively. This will help us acknowledge what’s best for us and assist us to make the best decision for ourselves. In our daily lives, it likely we won’t be able to think of everything that’s on the model and consequences. But, the model definitely definitely will help us make better decisions for ourselves.

In this unit I have learned a lot about drugs. Such as, alcohol, nicotine, vapes, cigarettes, etc… All of these have a common effect, they are addictive. Pretty much all drugs give people a relaxing feeling for a short amount of time, but after the relaxing feeling you’ll be craving for it(the drug you’ve taken) again. Especially for teens, when their brains aren’t fully developed yet, drugs can mess up their brain “system” which is terrible for them. Also, drugs aren’t just only bad for teens, it is harmful for everyone. The harm on adults may be smaller than it is on younger people, but there will be negative effect on everyone who takes drugs.

Unit 2 Proportionality and Scale Drawings

I have learned a lot of new information in this unit such as, the what is the scale factor, scaled copies, and the formula SF= copy/original. After this unit, I am way more confident in finding the scale factor and making accurate scale drawings.

The new information I learned was finding the perimeter and area of a shape using the scale. For finding the perimeter we can just times the original shape’s perimeter to the scale factor. But, for finding the area, we have to times the original shape’s area by the scale factor squared. Memorizing this was really helpful during assessments.

One interesting thing about this unit was learning how to write a CER in math. This is because CER’s were usually written in subjects other than math. However, in this unit we get to learn and write CER’s about math. This was a really interesting thing for me.

One challenge that I faced was overthinking about problems. This is a challenge that occur to lots of problems that I solved. This occurred mostly in assessments. During assessments, it’s easy for me to overthink the problem, and make it seem really complicated in my mind. However, after when I am doing correction I will know exactly how to solve it.

PE Reflection: Artistic Swimming

This unit was about artistic swimming, in this unit we learned how to float, skull and tread water better. While learning these techniques, we are also creating a routine to perform at the end of this unit.

There’s a lot of things, I am really proud of what we have done in this unit. Such as, putting together a whole routine in 3 classes performing it well. Also, going through disagreements and compromising with my group members.

There’s one specific things I’d like to improve on is being more brave to offer my ideas to the group, and this can occur to many more subjects because artistic swimming isn’t the only time where creativity, teamwork, and leadership are present.
