Purpose (RI.7.6)

I did explain the purpose good, but not perfectly. I explained what the creator’s purpose is, like entertaining or promoting a product, with full evidence and explanation of the evidence. I can add more evidence to make it even clearer than now, with more reasonable explanations for the evidence.

Evidence for Purpose (RI.7.6)

I added a lot of evidence to my formative, but I did not use a lot of good language to explain it. I can improve by finishing the whole thing before writing my evidence, so I can include more evidence and examples.

Vocabulary (RI.7.6)

I tried my best to explain the connotation of words or phrases in the video, and I did explain it ok, but not good. I can go deeper by fully understanding the word and including more details in the word’s meaning.

Connection to Audience (RI.7.6)

I didn’t quite connect my connotations, but I did not connect them fully. I tried to write about what the audience will think or feel when they see this phrase or word, but I failed to explain it properly. I could make these connections better and stronger by explaining them more and trying to bring myself into the audience’s view.

Balance

I did better in the purpose explanation part than the Vocabulary part. I didn’t explain the Vocab clear enough in my formative, but I explained my purpose of author with evidence in the formative.

Future Application

I can understand more stuff after these few classes about commercials, especially when I was forced to watch an ad. I can catch phrases or other designs that persuade the audience to buy this product.

Purpose (RI.7.1.6): How well did you explain the influencer or commercial creator’s purpose in your analysis? What made your explanation strong, and what could you add to make it even clearer?

I explained the influencer, Ryan’s purpose clearly. I written that he mentioned his own candy brand, Joyride, on the plane back to US. He showed many different products throughout the video, such as beef jerky and a car brand. I could add more details about how did he advertise Joyride and the beef jerky brand to make it even clearer.

Evidence for purpose(RI.7.6): Did you use specific examples of languages to show the influencer’s or commercial creator’s purpose? How could you improve the quality or clarify of your examples?

I used some specific examples of languages to show the influencer’s or commercial creator’s purpose such as pointing our when did Ryan add an advertisement and how. I could improve the quality or clarify of my examples by showing my understanding of how and why Ryan add advertisements into the video.

Vocabulary(L.7.6): How well did you explain the connotation of words or phrases from the video? What help you succeed, and what’s one way you could go deeper?

I explained the connotations, but I did not do it so well. I wrote the actual definition of the word or phrase that appeared in the video, instead of what feeling the word or phrase gives to the consumers.

Connection to Audience(L.7.6): Did you connect the connotations to the audience’s emotions and understanding? How can you make those connections stronger next time?

I misunderstood the term connotation when I was doing this formative, so I failed to connect the audience’s emotions and understanding to the connotations.

Balance: Which part of the rubric (purpose or connotation) do you feel more confident in, and which part do you want to practice more? Why?

I feel more confident in the purpose part, and I want to practice the connotation part more. I can easily identify the purpose of the influencer’s video, but I struggle to find strong words in the video and understand the connotation of the phrases or words.

Future Application: How will you use what you learned from this assignment when you analyze another influencer video, or commercial, or a different type of media?

What I learned from this unit helped me a lot with identifying the purposes of many influencers’ videos, some that I watch in my spare time, and some that my parents watch. For example, at the Team Eagles meeting, Ms. Shah and Ms. Curry showed a video, and a suggestion of a time management website pops up, and I realized the real purpose of this video is to advertise this website.
