Our group chose our music based on our own tastes and how we could accommodate our instruments to play the piece. We chose Feel It Still by Portugal. The Man, because it allows clarinets, trumpets, and drums to play together and has a catchy rhythm. We learned that picking music that one likes is important to encourage passion when practicing.
I learned that as a drum player, I am able to control the beat organization when playing. I gained the skill of leadership as I was able to choose the music that everyone can agree on and keep the music in pace when playing. I felt more confident about collaboration.
A setback that I experienced is that I cannot find an adequate score from the drums, so I had to “attach” drum rhythms to the tune Kai and Evan are playing.
A factor that contributed to our success was practice. We were consistent in practicing, and I spent time after class refining my skills.
Our game in the probability fair is a two-step game that consists of spinning a wheel and choosing 1 path to try to win the prize. During the process, Harrison brought the prizes and helped to set up our set, Brendan designed the poster and made things fancy, while I operated the stand and engineered the path.
We didn’t lose a lot of prizes and took them home, which went well. It might be because winning just the lowest price has a 1/8 chance, making it pretty scammy. We didn’t work to our best, and our prizes aren’t so good. (Went badly) Thus, our stand was not that attention-drawing, making us not very popular.
Our experimental probability of winning is significantly lower than our theoretical one, at around 8%, while our theoretical probability is 12.5%. We aren’t sure why, but I might relate it to a skill issue as people lost a lot in the 2nd stage.
Above is a frame of the Documentary project we did during Unit 4 of 7th-grade social studies. We made the film by researching a few online articles and noting key information down. We gathered information, formed a claim, and found evidence that we can use along with reasoning to prove our claim, and we wrote our script for the Documentary in essay format. We recorded our voices reading our script, found matching videos and music, and combined them together to make our film. Editing was used to cut video length correctly, remove watermarks, enhance quality of video, and to make smooth transitions.
During my collaboration and my partner, we worked well by supporting each other and pushing ourselves for the best. We had to overcome challenges like a lack of time, late citations, and even missing files. The work was divided equally, as my partner and I each made half of the documentary, spoke on half of the documentary, and researched half of the documentary.
In sum, this is a valuable experience.
