Social Studies Unit 2 Communication and Transportation Technology: Essay Reflection

What did we do?

In this unit we researched about a technology of our choice and I chose the typewriter. When I heard the topic of this unit was about communication, The first thing that popped into my mind was the typewriter as it was revolutionized the world of literature.

Before starting to write the essay, we reviewed the CER format to know how to write it properly with the right steps. When we took 3 classes to take notes, we needed to download essays and print them.We also needed to annotate it, and I annotated the essays with care, trying to understand the topic well. While annotating, we also needed to fill out the graphic organizer to organize all the knowledge in the essay we are reading.

At the end we basically combined all of the humongous information and write it into 3 paragraphs, talking about the positive impact, negative impact, and how we fixed it or try to fix it. Lastly, we added the intro and the conclusion.

What did I do well in my essay and what did I not?

I was aiming to write my essay to be really formal and Mr. Tyner thought I did well with that. My writing style was really formal and smooth, making the reader to understand it smoothly. The writing was very well structured and had a great syntax. It caught the readers attention and it didn’t make the readers feel bored.

Even though the writing structure was good, the information in the paragraph was pretty far away from the impact the typewriter had. I should have focused more on the typewriters rather than the events. This caused my essay to have a weaker argument. Next time, I should try to get more source connected to the typewriter. But I gotta admit, it is really hard to find articles about typewriters these days.

Social Studies Unit 2 Communication and Transportation Technology: Visual Presentation Reflection

What did we do?

For the visual presentation, with no hesitation, I chose to do an animation. I always have wanted to do an animation in one of my project as I really love watching animations in YouTube. So I used the app called flipaclip with my iPad to draw this animation.

At first, I thought it would be easy as I thought it was juts drawing some frames, but it was not. I needed to check if every frame fits perfectly and if the animations are smooth. Fun Fact: I made over 3500 frames for a 3 minute video so it was painful. But even though it was hard, I really enjoyed making it as it was my first time and I was learning a lot. I filled my free times with this project and this shows how much love I put into this project. At the end I was really proud with my outcome, feeling the hard work has paid off.

When the parents came, many of my friends said my animation was awesome and many parents also praised myself. This made me realize my new talent and hobby. It was a fun project for me.

What did I do well in my animation and what didn’t?

I was able to stay on task every class day as a ton of work must be done everyday for me. I was also able to learn new skills during this visual presentation, like using the app flipaclip. I also did well in my presentation as I was confident when I spoke and I had a steady tempo. During this unit, I even think I improved my presentation skills through presenting to many different people.

I would say nothing went wrong except time management. During the project, I was a bit rushing at the end so the quality of the last few pages are a bit bad. I should have worked more in my home which would have saved me so much sleeping time. If I am going to do this again I would work more on my free time.

Unit 3 Math Proportionality and Percentages

What do you understand about this topic?

I understood how to use the percent equation to find a part of a whole. The basic logic is multiply a fraction to a whole to get the percentage. By the way, the precent equation is (part/whole) = (%/100). We also learned how to use the percent change equation. It basically has the same logic but we are replacing the “part” with “change”.

What new information do you have?

The unit was pretty smooth to me as I could understand all of the topics Ms. Ari was talking about. But it strengthen my understanding even more, and I even got to know more about US taxing and tipping policy. I also learned many fast ways to calculate an equation.

What was interesting about this unit?

Something that was interesting in this unit was basically the project. We got to research for real world goods and use there real world price. This was really cool as I could use those experiences I built to use it in my daily life. It also had the presentation part which was also pretty fun listening to others topic.

What was tricky about this unit?

Even when I understood it all, I still made too many mistakes. I need to LOCK IN during class and read the directions PROPERLY.

Collaboration Reflection In ELA

How would you react in those scenarios?

When you are placed in new table groups: I would be happy if I sit with my besties but I genuinely don’t really care sitting with new people. Even though it can be awkward when we meet each other for the first time, I can still go along if I just try to share my ideas.

When your table decides who would take away/get the notebooks: I would be happy to volunteer to get the notebooks if I am early or first in my table. We sometimes just take turns getting it. But most importantly, we always say thank you to each other if someone brings our notebooks. This shows signs of respect, appreciating their help.

When you are asked to turn and talk with a partner: Sometimes I would admit, different gender can be a problem to me. It is pretty awkward and I would say everyone would. But it is really important to try to express your ideas in ways they can feel included.

When you have an opportunity to share your ideas during class: I share my ideas during class but not as much often. I try to share my thoughts by raising my hand, but sometimes I just feel like it’s not the right timing. I am still trying to share my ideas to the class so hopefully, I could participate more next year.

When you worked with your partners in Unit 2: Event though I could be sharing small ideas during big talks, I can still contribute many ideas to projects where there are fewer people involved. I share my ideas and listen to theirs and try to combine both of them to create a better and bigger idea.

What would you rate yourself as a collaborator?
MEETING

I would try to ask more questions and raise more hands in this New Year to try to improve my social and collaborating skills.

Unit 2 ELA Summative Reflection

How did you improve from formative to summative?

On my first formative (identifying literal elements, I got a 2 for the CERER part. Most of the other formatives were also a 3 or 2. But as we went deeper into the unit, I began to understand this topic more and more, digesting most of the things I learned in class. So, in the summative, I got a 4 on all the subjects except one (I got a 3). The comments shows how my analysis was great and how I understood the story really well. This increase of my score from 2 to 4 shows how I even though I got a 2 on the first formative, After those lessons and practice by myself, I got a 4 on the summative.

What are you proud of and what were some challenges you had?

I am proud of having 4 on every standards except the one on the outline. I got a 3 on the outline. It was because I didn’t quite really understood some traits. For the 4s, I was able to understand the topic of dynamic, static, flat, and round. I also got the standards for the format of CERER, understanding the grammar and the style well. Some challenges I had was probably writing the formate for the story because I really had trouble to even think about the plot. It took many inspiration from books, and my own deep imagination. At the end I got a pretty interesting plot, successfully getting a 4 on my pitch presentation.

How did you use your feedbacks from your peers and teachers efficiently?

From my teacher’s feedback, I noticed had a meeting understanding of literal elements but don’t perfectly know what mirrors and windows are. That’s why at home, I reviewed the slides and the exercises we did in class. Due to this, I had a stronger understanding in the next formative, getting threes. But, I wanted to improve even more. So that’s why I paid attention to the part when Ms. Devin was talking about complex conventions and writing styles. Also, I noticed how writing long doesn’t mean a four. That’s why I kept my CERER simple and direct, which led me to a 4. All those experiences shows how I used my feedbacks efficiently.

What changes would you make if you can redo the summative?

I would try to research more and try to get better and complex character traits. Then, I would be able to have a deeper story, making my story more interesting. Some of the traits were explained in a wrong way. I should focus more not on actual context but actual standards that would be tested on. I shouldn’t.

What advice would you give to your future self? Set one goal for next year.

I would say to keep up the great work and try to engage in the class more as I am pretty quiet. One goal I would set is to be more consistent and focused during test to give the same effort.

Science Unit 2 Cell and Body System Reflection

Essential Question and Standard Reflection

For this project, I chose to answer the first essential question, which is “What happens to our bodies when we get sick?” I learned that many parts of our body, big or small, operates together to perform a task. I also learned how there are different levels of organization, from a cell to an organism.0 Like going through a disease or playing a sport. This made me realize how our body works like a chain reaction. If something goes wrong, the entire thing can collapse.

Learning Experiences

Some learning experiences in this unit that was the most memorable was the dissections, modeling the cell, and the least project. the dissection really gave me a chance to explore what I really interested in, like biology. I learned a lot during the dissections, like different parts of the circulatory and the respiratory system. During the edible cell model, I got to learn more about the organelles and have a solid understanding towards them. For the last project, I was able to explore what I want to, in this case, the ALS.

Improvements

Some improvements I want to make is still previewing and reviewing for class while also keeping my time organized. Even though I had a solid understanding by the end of the class, at the start of the lesson, I barely had a clear idea. By organizing my time, I would be able to finish all my stuff during class and would have less home work

Health Unit 3 Decide Model

What is a Decide Model?

A decide model is a structured 6 step model that is used for effective decision making. The model breaks down complicated situations into smaller part sot act we can evaluate the situation even better. It starts by defining the problem and thinking about the consequences, which eventually leads to your decision. (6 steps are: Define the problem, Explore Options, Consider Consequences, Identify Value, Decide What to do, and Evaluate Decision.) This model can be used by students in situations when a person gives you un-familiar substances and situations where pressure is given to them. We learned how to use the DECIDE model in class because we don’t want to be in situations that are related with unfamiliar people and doing illegal actions.

What are some effects of some substances?

Alcohol: Causes damage to brain, loss of memory, increase risk of heart disease and strokes, Weakens immune system.

Pain Killers: Loses track of movement, causes financial issues, recovering can be difficult

Nicotine (In vapes): Body gets used to vapes, risk of injecting illegal substances, faster brain damage, higher blood pressure.

Nicotine Pouches: Risk of oval cancer, bad teeth and lungs, risk of heart disease

Cigarettes: Destroys lungs, more vulnerable to cancer, contains dangerous doses.

Math Unit 2: Proportionality and Scale Drawings

What do you understand about this topic?

I understood how ratio and proportional thinking can be used to figure out a copy or the original. When trying to figure out a copy, you should always use corresponding sides or it would make a complete mess. Some equations we learned are SF=copy/og because SF is what we multiply to the go to get the copy. we can also get og= copy/SF by using simple conversion.

What new information do you have?

Even though this topic was not completely new to me, I learned many algebraic algorithms to figure out the SF and I also practice calculating some challenging problems and that really made be engage with his topic. I also learned how to change word problems into equation to solve.

What was interesting about this unit?

Something interesting we did this unit was applying our learning into real world scenarios and giving challenging problems. By applying our learning to our surroundings, we were able to really interact with this topic. Also, giving challenging problems has made me try them and eventually sole them.

What was tricky for you in this unit?

I understood most of the concepts but one thing I could fix is using my brain more during solving questions. I should focus more on the questions then my surroundings so I can focus more.

7th Grade Soccer and Swimming Reflection

Soccer: In soccer, we learned how to control the ball and shooting, but the most important thing we learned is transition from offense to defense. This skill was needed to play soccer as a team and cooperative. I was able to dribble with decent control and shoot with decent amount of power. I was also able to pass to my teammates properly and transition from offense to defense. But sometimes, I would just stand there to take a breath during matches, so the opponent gets the opportunity to score. I should be more active during the games.

Swimming: In swimming, we learned how to survive in water for real life experience. We learned how to float and hot to stay on top of the water for a long time. Using the skills, we each went into groups and made our own move for it. I was able to learn how to float and how to survive in the water. I was also able to work with my teammates and make an interesting schedule for our artistic swimming. Next time, I think I would practice more as we made some mistakes during our turn.

Formative Assessment #2

What are you proud of? I am proud of being able to write the claim, evidence, and reasoning with minimal mistakes, reaching the standards. For claim, I clearly demonstrated a dystopian feature. For the evidence, I used relevant textual direct quotes from the text. For the reasoning, I explained how the evidence support the claim and connected my words to the claim.

What were some challenges? Some challenges I had was about the conventions part. Even though I knew how to put the parenthesis and the author, I made a mistake on the page number. For my formative, I put (Author name PARAGRAPH). I should have put the page number. Also there were some easy comma mistakes I need to fix.

If you could redo this assessment, what would you change? If I could redo this test, I would try to reach the L4. I had already meet the standards if I just change few easy mistakes. Next time, I would prepare myself for the L4 by writing more fluently with strong words.

What will you do before the summative? I would practice writing those CERER in my home to study, using the ones I got before. I also can review the slides of the classes I missed because the standards I got wrong was the citation part. (I was sick during that day). I should preview the classroom materials when I miss those classes.

What advice would you give to your future self? To my future self, I would say to remember to take the make up test when you miss class. I will also tell my future self to be calm and don’t stress out.
