My vision board captures my aspirations and values, blending themes of success, fairness, and personal well-being. The emphasis on “money” and “I was born to succeed” reflects my strong drive for financial stability and achievement. The word “zest” reminds me to embrace joy and enthusiasm in everything I do, while my focus on “leadership” highlights my desire to inspire and guide others. Critical Thinking #3 15 pts💭

Ethical dilemma: the runaway trolley

the runaway trolley presents a scenario where a trolley is heading toward five people tied to a track. You can pull a lever to divert the trolley onto another track, where it will hit one person instead. This dilemma raises questions about utilitarianism vs. deontological ethics

Utilitarian Perspective

  • Strengths:
    • Maximizes overall lives saved.
    • Emphasizes the greater good
  • Weaknesses:
    • Can justify morally questionable actions – sacrificing one for many

Deontological Perspective or not intervening

  • Strengths:
    • Upholds moral duties and individual rights.
    • Avoids the moral burden of actively causing harm.
  • Weaknesses:
    • May lead to a higher overall loss of life.
    • can be seen as morally wrong as more people would die

I would not pull the lever because I think I don’t have the right to decide who can live and who cannot. by pulling the lever I would be directly saving the five people, but also killing the one person who was safe. by not pulling the lever, the 5 people would die, however I don’t believe I have the right to intervene and decide who can live and who cannot. thus, I would not pull the lever even if it brings up ethical questions.
