Social Studies Unit 2 Essay

In this essay I listed negative and positive impacts of the HSR(High-Speed-Rail) using evidence from articles. i first made a graphic organizer to list out my information from each article. I then used the information to make paragraphs describing the impact on people and the economy.

Something I think I did well was finding effective and relevant information for the essay since I was able to find articles with much information. I was able to fill in most of my graphic organizer and pick out the most important evidence from it.

Something I think I didn’t do as well was assembling the evidence and creating the actual essay. I say this because my first version had barely any reasoning and much of it was restating my evidence. I do believe that rewriting it a second time has made it better though.

Social Studies Unit 2 Visual Presentation

In this unit we created a visual presentation that was related to our topic. (The topic is a transportation/communication technology that created an impact.) My topic was the impact of the High-speed-rail on China. After creating our visual presentation we set it up and presented it to some peers using information from an essay we created.

Something that I am proud of is being creative and coming up with an idea of a board game that was relevant to my topic and shows part of my understanding on it. I was able to create a functional board game and finish the work on time.

Something I think I should work more on is saving time and being more efficient. When making the project I felt that I spent to much time on areas that don’t matter and losing focus. I feel that if I was able to work faster I would be able to refine my project much more making it better. If I was able to go back in time I would stay focused on my work and try to finish it faster.

Math Unit 3 Percent Change

In this unit we learned about percent change, which is the difference between the before and after of a number. It also I created a PPT to show the difference between prices at each store with discounts and showed which store I would go to.

Something I think I did well was calculating the discounts and final prices. I was able to calculate correctly all of the sale prices and percent discount the stores were offering. I was able to do this using the percent equations.

Something I should work on is displaying my work step by step so people who haven’t learned percent change before would be able to understand. I need to explain why I do each step more and why it works.

This can be used in real life for solving discounts (total amount) checking taxes and paying tips. This is due to the fact that taxes and tips are in % and not knowing how to calculate them would make life harder.

Me as Collaborator

Even when I was placed in groups with people I don’t usually talk with, I can still collaborate and discuss with them without any problem. When I were asked to talk to a partner I would put ideas on the table and listen to what they had to say. In class discussions I often raise my hand even if I wasn’t sure my idea is correct. When I worked with my partner on the dystopian story I was able to share ideas and create a version that included both our ideas.

If I had to rate myself as a collaborator I would rate myself a meeting since I participate, listen and do my share most of the time. If another student were to describe my collaboration they would probably say that I have a lot of ideas. To improve my collaboration I will try to ask for the opinions of others more especially people who talk less in groups.

Language Arts Unit 2 Summitaves

In the summitaves of this unit, we wrote CERER about conflict and dystopian themes. Another thing we did was we identified round and dynamic characteristics. We also created a pitch for a dystopian story we created.

I worked well on the evidence part. I was able to give relevant evidence for each summative and my evidence was most of the time a direct quote. I also did well in the pitch presentation as my voice was able to remain loud and clear, only looking at my notecards rarely.

Somethings I need to work on is my reasoning and contentions. My reasoning needs to go deeper into the claim and sometimes my reasoning is just a rephrasing of my evidence. I also need to work on contentions, like citing or embedding a quote. To practice this, I will use the CERER bot and practice creating better reasoning that connects my evidence to my claim. I will recheck lesson slides on contentions to practice and memorize everything. I will also use a flint bot to help me check and make sure I have memorized the ways to use contentions.

One advice I would like to give to me in the future is that I should 1, Double check work ESPECIALLY in the contentions and grammer area. 2, I should in reasoning focus on how the evidence proves my claim and less of restating already said evidence.

Unit 3 Health DECIDE Model

In this Unit, we learned about peer pressure, different forms of it, and how it can affect your actions. We created a DECIDE model to evaluate a decision. It shows different choices you have facing peer pressure and consequences of each choice.

Something I think I did well was finding sources and evidence for what happens for each choice. I think this as I found a lot of useful evidence on how using nicotine pouches causes gum disease and addiction.

Something I think we could do better is showing how we can help a family member or friend in addiction. Next time I will add an area for treatment or places to help those with addiction, and helplines to call.

In conclusion this unit taught me about the way peer pressure shapes your choices and the way drugs harm you. It also taught us that you should always think thoroughly before acting.

Health Unit 2 Portfolio Reflection

I used to assume that health influencers were all professionals and that their information can be trusted. I used to not check the information at all and blindly trust that the influencer is saying the right thing.

But now I think that not all health influencers are experts and that not all of them gives 100% correct information. Now I will use the CRAAP test to check the information before believing it. I will especially check A, authority, as I realized that a lot of the health “experts” online are just ordinary people who know as much information on health with everyone else.

One example of what changed my perspective was using the test for authority. I realized that the Influencer that looked trustworthy and professional didn’t have any credentials or citations to back up what he said. This means that people that seem trustworthy sometimes aren’t.

In conclusion, this unit taught us how to check info online and how to make sure information we consume is true and useful. It also taught us not to trust blindly and to always use the CRAAP test.

Math Unit 2 Reflection

In this unit we learned about scale factors. We learned about ways to find the scale factor, ways it is used in real life and how to use the SF to find dimensions of a copy.

I am proud of being able to understand the scale factor and to use it to find dimensions. An example of this is how you can use the formula Copy/original to find the SF and how you can use SF x Dimension to find the copy dimension.

I need to practice using the SF to find areas of copies. One reason for this is because I keep getting the Area SF formula confused. I can practice this by memorizing the formula, Area= Original Area x (SF x SF).

In the real world, the SF is most useful in places like museum and shops as it is used to make something either bigger or smaller and into a copy. For example, in a Rocket Museum there is usually a rocket model that is a scaled copy of the original rocket. That means they look the same, just sized different.

ELA Unit 2 Formative #2

One thing I am proud of is being able to create a claim that shows the author’s purpose and explains why it follows the dystopian characteristic. I also was able to give relative evidence that supports my claim.

Something I need to work on is using the right conventions and having reasoning that further connects to my claim. I need to do this so that my reasoning can prove why my claim is correct.

If I could redo the assessment I would be more careful with the conventions and I would make sure that the reasoning connects the claim while still making sense and relating to the evidence.

Between now and the summitave, I will practice this by using the Quote control bot to understand conventions more and use the CER bot to advise me in my reasoning.

An advice I would give myself moving forward, would be to double check my work especially in parts for grammar or spelling. That way I can spot mistakes and fix them before it’s too late.

Language arts Unit 2 Formative Assessment

In this assessment we answered questions about the short story we read. Something I think I did well was finding a mirror in the story and using a CER format to explain why I felt connected to that part.

Something I think was challenging or that I need to improve on was understanding windows and knowing how to explain why something was a window for me. If I could change something in the assessment I would spend less time explaining what the character did and more time explaining why their actions and feelings were a window for me.

Something I will do between now and the next formative is to study the meaning of windows and practice finding them in other stories or books that I read. A tip or advice I would give myself for next time would be to think more thoroughly about the reasoning in CER and the meaning/ definition of the words.
