Final Health Project Overview:

In this unit, there was a final project that required us to explain the different characteristics in a healthy relationship. We had to choose a relationship to analyse—such as relationships in movies, books, or real life. The project allowed us to share our thinking and learning in a variety of ways, ranging from simple power points all the way to health videos and comics. After analysing the relationship of Gru and Lucy in Despicable Me, my group concluded that a healthy relationship needs to have clear boundaries, consent between both partners, and clear communication.
Important Ideas Learned:
This unit taught me that people shouldn’t disrespect someone based on what they identify themselves as; it can lead to depression, anxiety, and many more mental illnesses which can have a heavy impact on the person. Also, I learned that knowing if a relationship is healthy or abusive is important; it can help protect people by helping them decide whether they should step out of a relationship that could be hurting them. Lastly, I learned that it is important to set clear boundaries in relationships; it can help both partners respect each other by ensuring that none of them feel uncomfortable. Boundaries act as gates; rules and limits that are kept in place to keep a relationship safe and healthy.
My data from the socratic seminar:

This artifact best represents how I participated during the socratic seminar and how I can improve. The artifact shows the class data and compares it to my individual data, which allows me to see what I need to work on, and what I did well on. This artifact showed me that to prepare for the next seminar, I need to focus on talking for a longer period of time; I also need to speak a little bit more during the seminar.
Strengths:
I did a good job defending, which means that I marked opponents that were pushing and kicked the ball away from the goal if it went near the goal. I also did well on passing the ball, as I would pass the ball to a nearby teammates if the opponents are pressuring me.
Weaknesses:
Something that I still need to improve on in this unit is dribbling the ball. I can steal the ball from my opponents, but struggle with keeping the ball for long, as it’s difficult for me to control the ball.
I used to think that mental health was mainly found in homeless people and criminals. I also believed that mental health was mainly stuff like anxiety and depression. I didn’t know that there were stuff such as eating disorders or OCD, as it’s something that I don’t see often in my daily life.
After this unit, I found out that anyone could be diagnosed with a mental health disorder—not only homeless people and criminals. I learnt this from the stigma lesson, as it taught me that stigma was a negative stereotype about mental health, and that it was targeted towards people such as criminals or homeless people. I also learned that mental health disorders are more impactful than people might think. For example, I thought that OCD was a mental health disorder that pushed someone to be perfect; however, I discovered that it was actually a lot bigger than that, and that it could really affect someone’s daily life. Another mental health disorder that I thought was easy to overcome was anxiety. After doing research about anxiety through countless sources, I discovered that anxiety is basically long-lasting stress and worry, and that it can affect your daily life a lot.
Overall, this unit taught me that mental health conditions wasn’t something to joke about; it’s a serious and harmful condition that can really cause harm to someone. If someone is unsure about what mental health is and the dangers of it, I would highly recommend them this unit, as it might change their negative views and stereotypes about mental health.

My current goal:
My current goal is to raise my hand and participate in class discussions more. Whenever I’m in class, I usually don’t raise my hand often. My goal is to change this. This means I will begin raising my hand more often to answer questions or volunteer to something.
Progress toward my goal:
I feel like I have made steady progress towards my goal. I have begun raising my hand more often during class to volunteer to do something. This is exactly what I wanted to try to achieve. However, I feel like I could still improve by raising my hand at least once a class. Once I do this, I will count this goal as complete.

Overview of the project/model:
In this unit, we had to create a model that shows the difference between meteoroids, meteors, and meteorites (I’ll be called them the 3 M’s from now on). It was also required to show other stuff, such as the forces involved, the difference between the 3 M’s, and other important facts. We also had to do research on comets, which are very different compared to meteoroids.
What I improved on:
At the start of the unit, I had no idea what the difference between the 3 M’s were. However, after researching for a while, I found out that the name of a meteoroid is dependent on where it is. For example, meteoroids are space rock that are floating around space. Meteors, however, are space rocks that have ended up in earths atmosphere, and meteoroids are meteors that have successfully landed on earths atmosphere. These different names help us put space rocks into groups, which is something I never knew before this unit.
What I need to improve on:
Something I feel like I need to improve on in the unit is using less words in my model. When creating the model, I felt that I used a little too much words, which can make the model a little boring; it would be better to use pictures and models to convey my ideas. This is something that I will make sure to do this during later units, as it might make my models more entertaining.
My science Model:
An overview of the process:
In Unit 1, we had to ask a question that we were interested in and then find an answer to that question. We had to do research and dig into many sources that might have helped with answering our claim. This unit taught me about something called API, and how to research and write CER’s well.
How I improved:
I feel like I improved a lot in this unit. For example, at the beginning, I didn’t really know how to use and what API was. However, after the unit, I learned that API was a very good method to see whether or not a source is credible and relevant to the question you are answering. This means looking at the publication date of the article, the author, and the content inside.
What I need to improve on:
Even though I learned a lot of stuff, I feel like there are still some stuff I need to get better on. Something I need to improve on is creating my guiding questions for my main question. During the unit, I struggled a lot on creating the guiding questions since I didn’t really know how to structure and write them. I’ve gotten a little better, but with more practice, I can begin writing strong guiding questions that can be very useful in my research.

Goals of the Unit:
In unit 1, we had to communicate with an alien AI to learn grammar. We had to teach the alien different grammar concepts so that we could understand its motives and if they are dangerous or not. This was a role-play where we were the FBI investigators, and had to save the world.
My final alien poster:
What I improved on:
The unit taught me a lot of stuff related to sentence types. For example, I learned why we use different types of sentences (compound, complex, simple) to communicate. I also learned something called connotation and denotation. Connotation is the feeling associated with the word, while the denotation Is the literal meaning. This taught me that even though a certain word might have the same meaning as another one, certain words might invoke and add a different tone to the story.
What I need to work on:
Even though I learned a lot of stuff, there is still some stuff I’m not comfortable with. For instance, I feel like I need to work on understanding the difference between dependent and independent clauses. I know some stuff about them, however, such as the independent clause having a subject and a verb, something a dependent clause doesn’t. However, I struggle telling the difference when reading stories or articles. Having a stronger understanding of this concept will help me create stronger sentences, which will in turn help my writing.
Hypothesis
The app ‘Calm’ will help users feel more confident in how they approach stress with the use of different useful features.
Possible Future Outcomes:
2. I fail to approach/cope with stress well; no strategies
3. I don’t finish my goal in the time limit (project time)
Baseline Wellness Metrics:
Im measuring my screen time throughout the break. Whenever I feel stressed, I usually go on to my iPad to cope with that feeling. I want to see if my screen time lowers, so I can see if the app really helped me with stress.

Functionality
The app ‘Calm’ focuses on helping users get rid of stress. The app also helps its users improve their sleep schedule, while also helping them develop good stress resilience (mindfulness). When I saw the marketing for the Calm app, I thought that it was some kind of music playlist to help you relax; however, I learned that calm contains many different stuff like sleep stories and breathing exercises that contribute to my goal. This app is good, but there are a few limitations. For example, users have to pay a subscription to unlock a wide variety of courses, and are excluded from these courses if they don’t buy the premium subscription. This makes make it hard for people that don’t have a lot of money and are looking for a free app. They are also constantly shoving the transactions throughout your experience, which might distract some people.

Usefulness
The app helped me a lot with my metric goal because of the recordings it had. For example, throughout the week, I went out for a jog every SINGLE DAY! This is very different than before, since I usually don’t go out often. In my opinion, my hypothesis was sort of answered; the app constantly shoved transactions in my face, which distracted me a lot. It did, however, have useful recordings that taught me different ways to relieve stress, such as thinking of a calm place, or taking deep breaths. The app surprised me by constantly encouraging me to buy the premium pack. I thought that I would get one notification a day, not one every single time I refresh the page or go into a new recording. The app is very versatile in its benefits, but it’s locked behind a paywall. If you pay for the premium pack, you can listen to A LOT more recordings about many different stuff about wellness. Even though it’s expensive, the premium pack offers a wide variety of resources to help with stress, making it an effective tool for many different people, such as kids or adults.

Design
Calm has daily reminders to help you remember to do your daily meditation. This is more useful than manipulative, since it can help you remember to stay focused in achieving your goal. You might be wondering how Calm manages to get profit, well, as stated before, Calm includes premium subscriptions. Premium subscriptions are Calms main source of income, with the premium subscription costing $79.99 per year. Calm is not some random app thats trying to milk you for money; instead, it is actually trying to help its users build healthy habits. This is evident in the app, as the app has many different ways to help build stress resilience, such as mediation and daily reminders. These meditations on the app are the same as well know, effective meditations, meaning it is genuinely helpful.
