Collaboration

Me and one other person had a debate. It was incredibly fun to produce things to disagree and agree about because we were able to find things we both liked and disliked. We showed each other our side of it by finding facts to prove our ways of thinking and in the end, we ended up concluding that I was correct in one of them and she was correct in the other. This showed that even though you have disagreements, there is not always going to be someone that is right, and wrong. As you collaborate with your classmates more and more, you begin to enhance your learning experiences because it gives you a sense of belonging in the community as well as being able to have a deeper understanding on what the topic is you are discussing. Collaboration makes you be able to learn how to communicate in the real world after high school and even gives you the ability to talk as if you are on a higher level for job interviews, essays, etc. As we learn to concider different options we have in life, communicating with others can create for a faster way to get to your goal as well as being able to find out better ways to get there in the future.

Communication

Personally, it is harder to communicate with others in high school compared to middle school. Everyone is starting to find their place with friends, hobbies, classes they want to take later and jobs they want to do. It is hard to catch up with everyone. So, once you figure that out, you sort of start to go to people that that have the same goals and priorities as you. Thats why i feel like this task was the hardest because not everyone in your learning lab class is easy to communicate with to finish the task. As students are able to share ideas and clearify concepts with each other that deepends their understnaing on the topic.

Creativity

While creating artwork, it is sometimes hard to get started with even a simple idea. When your head is feeling blank, you feel like you are never going to finish because you cannot even start! When i start to get stuck, I find some inspiration. Either from friends, family, teachers, or online platforms. I feel like sometimes things are not meant to be done all by yourself.  It shows critical thinking and problem-solving skills, enabling individuals to approach challenges with differnet perspectives as well as coming up with unique solutions. In school, creativity encourages students to explore more of their own ideas, leading to deeper understanding and engagement with the material.

Critical thinking

When I run into a problem, it is the fastest and most efficient. For example, if I am in art and I realize I messed up my artwork. Would I erase the whole thing, or keep adding from where I messed up? I would keep adding because erasing would take me back sometimes 3 or more steps and could make me fall behind. This skill is crucial in professional environments, where effective decision-making can significantly impact organizational success. By finding collaboration and constructive debate, critical thinking enhances group work dynamics and leads to more creative and effective solutions. Additionally, it cultivates resilience and adaptability, essential traits in a rapidly changing world.

Resilience

When ive experienced setbacks, i ask for help and take some extra time to focus on what i messed up or need help on. It’s not always how fast you do something but the quality you do it so you should always ask for feedback and help with what you are most in need. It shows the ability to bounce back from adversity, whether facing personal struggles, academic pressures, or professional obstacles. This adaptability is essential in today’s fast-paced world, where unexpected changes can arise at any moment. Resilient individuals are better equipped to manage stress and maintain a positive mindset, allowing them to approach difficulties as opportunities for growth rather than giving up and fall more behind. This perspective not only enhances emotional well-being but also promotes mental health by reducing stress, and some peoples depression.

Library

We are able to find books ourselves as well as finding facts about the book such as the author, and where to find it. if you have the section of where the book is, we are now able to findd it more easily. it is important to be able to credit your sources as well. like if we are citing books to be sure not to plagiarize.

Best tips and tricks for starting high school

In middle school, I would always try to prepare for high school, not knowing even how to prepare. What classes would I take? How would i manage my time? What sports would I do and what clubs should i join?

Managing time

I wish I knew that middle school grades do really matter and how i manage my time then because it really effected me in high school. I also wish I knew that sleep was the most important part of effective studying and learning, because I would stay up for hours thinking thats what I would have to do in high school, but in reality I wouldn’t get much done because of how tired I was. Making time for myself is also very important because getting burnt out is real, and a big reality for a lot of high school students.

Being your best

Since i’m starting high school, I know all the tips and tricks to have a great year, but last year I wish I finished my homework as soon as I got it. Procrastination would get the best of me and sometimes I would have to turn it in late, which turned into a horrible habit. Now I know it is best to just get it over with. One of the most important things I learned is that turning in something is better than turning in nothing. Turning in nothing brings your grade down way more, and even if you get a bad grade on the assignment, it wont bring down your grade just as much as a missing assignment. In general, I have learned that you should always make time for yourself, because if you don’t feel 100%, your work won’t turn out 100%.

Welcome to Your New Portfolio!

Why have a digital portfolio at SAS?

Creating a portfolio, or blog is a great way to collect all the work you’ve done throughout your academic career. You can include academic, athletic, and personal artifacts or experiences that you want to share with a wider audience. This is a great way to organize all your learning in one place and you can take it with you when you leave SAS.  When you make your portfolio, you create posts that are categorized according to your subject. Some categories have already been set up for you, but if you need more categories you can add them as needed. It’s important that your posts have the following:

  • An engaging title – this should not include the name of the subject since this is referenced in the category. Think of this as the first opportunity to engage and hook your reader!
  • Body – this is where you share your learning. This should include a combination of text and media in the form of images, graphics, and embedded videos. You should always consider how your post looks to your audience. Is it engaging and organized? Do they want to keep reading?
  • Category – select one that has been set for you or add a new category. Posts can have more than one category e.g. Humanities and Myself as a Learner
  • Tags – create tags that can be used as keywords to describe your post. Tags help organize your post a little more! Aim to have 3-5 tags for each post. For example, if you are posting about a novel you wrote, you might want the following tags: #Fiction, #MurderMystery, #Theme, #PlotDiagram
