Reflection on Apprenticeship tasks

The tasks I learnt the most from were:

Resilient tasks:

My favorite tasks were from the “resilient” category. For one of the tasks, I learned how to ice climb, which was challenging but fun once I got the hang of it. It taught me a couple of skills as well, such as learning to bounce back from setbacks.

Creative learner:
As a creative learner, I had the opportunity to use my creativity to brainstorm ideas, think outside the box, and experiment with different concepts in various projects, such as making a card game or writing.

Communicator:

I learned how to express my ideas clearly and effectively. Good communication involves not only speaking but also understanding and responding to feedback. This skill is invaluable in any collaborative environment.

Critical thinker tasks 13 and 10

Task 10: That’s Outlandish! (60 pts)

School days should start later and be shorter. In my opinion, they ought to start at 9:00 and end at 15:00.

Cost analysis: No additional cost.

Reasons (research included)

  1. Teenagers need more sleep. Additional sleep supports our developing brain as well as physical growth spurts. Without this sleep, we can’t function properly in school, and it’ll be damaging to our physical health. Adults constantly forget what it was like to be a teen, and will therefore think this proposal is “outlandish.”
  2. Teachers seem to be tired all the time as well. Just saying.
  3. Shorter school hours mean that there will be more time for everybody to pursue interest out of school and grade/do homework.

Task 13: Wordplay (30 pts)

Imagine you live in a world with only 20 words. You can use these words as much as you want but you cannot use any other words.

List of words I would choose:

  • Hi
  • Food
  • Water
  • I
  • You
  • Need
  • And
  • Help
  • okay
  • are
  • how
  • Back
  • Go
  • to
  • feel
  • sick
  • because
  • Goodbye
  • Do
  • Fine

Hi, I need food and water. How do you feel? Do you feel fine? I feel sick because you are back. Okay, go and help. Goodbye!

Creative learner tasks 4 and 6

Task 4: Design a card game (60 pts)

Card game: Heart attack

Rules

  1. Two players, standard deck of 52 (jokers not included)
  2. Players take turns putting cards face up on a pile
  3. Players count from 1 to king as they put down the cards
  4. If the card that is counted shows up, players try to smack the pile as fast as possible
  5. Whoever is slower loses that round and has to take all the cards in the deck
  6. Goal is to get rid of all the cards.

Task 6: Plan a school event (30 pts)

Event: Sporting event

Location: gymnasium and field

Overview: A day for students to try out new sports, and for students to showcase some of their skills in different sports.

Using AI Effectively and Responsibility

Introduction

AI is a powerful tool that can be both helpful and destructive. We must learn to use it adequately, as it’s expanding rapidly and isn’t going anywhere soon.

My Goals Regarding AI

I plan to use AI as little as possible in academic settings, as I want my work to remain authentic and mine. If I do use it for research or similar purposes, I’ll check all the information with different sources, as I know how misleading information provided by AI can be.

Embracing Change: A Transition Into SAS

A New Chapter of My Life

Middle school for me was like a roller coaster, filled with ups and downs. I transferred schools twice in my middle school journey, which was not an easy thing to do. After eighth grade ended, I decided to transfer yet again to Shanghai American School for the curriculum they offered.

As a middle schooler, I didn’t have the best time management. I would often leave assignments for the last possible minute, and rush to finish them the night before they were due. Sounds familiar? If there was one thing I could go back in time to improve in middle school, it would be my time management. As I transition into high school, I would like to create an effective and organized plan, so I can balance my life as much as possible.

Many people believe that high school means fewer extracurricular activities, but I believe that is not necessarily the case. This year, I will try to pursue a balanced lifestyle, meaning that neither of my academics or extracurriculars are neglected. I know this year will bring me many new opportunities, and I am excited about the things that are yet to come!
