Orchestra Reflection 🎻

In this unit, we learned how to play the instrument together, in unison, and we also learned how to move our hands quickly, to the right notes. What worked was that the thing that worked was that we played together really well, but then we kind of got off track. What didn’t work was that I’m still confused about our lines.

Roller Coaster Lab and Model

In this unit, we made a rollercoaster, with three other people in our group. The process was that we made a lab report, pretty much all the data. We read off of our scripts, and that included the data, the purpose of the rollercoaster etc.

Volleyball unit Reflection:

In this unit, we learned volleyball underhand serves, and bumping. We had 2 different teams, and we went against each other. We played net games, and most of the time our team won. I love volleyball, and it is my hobby. In my childhood, I loved volleyball, and I really wanted to be really really good at it.

Orchestra Reflection 🎻

In this unit, we preformed the winter concert. The winter concert has 4 pieces, and they are Sweet Petite Winter Suite, Thundersnow, and Where Falcons Fly. The fourth one was performed with the grades 7 & 8 VMM.

I think I did well on sound quality, and position. This is because I feel like whenever I play loudly, everyone else would, and in the video, I felt like I played loud. I also think I did well on position, because I was sitting straight the whole time, and so I’m good at position.

I think my area of improvement would be on the correct bowings, even though I’d done better than last year. This is because, some of the slurs, I didn’t really do them at the performance, so I feel like it’s my area of improvement.

I think these performances would be good to my future, because knowing how to play the violin would give you bonus points for university, and performance requires you to step out of your comfort zones, so yeah.

Otzi Reflection Post ❄️

What Did I Work On?

In this unit, we mainly worked on finding out about Otzi the iceman. We worked on mock trials, different planners, and for the mock trial, I was an EXPERT WITNESS, trying to answer the questions from the lawyers. I also worked on researching Otzi, how his life was like. Our essential question in this unit is, “Why should we care about the past?” So, with this question in mind, we worked on finding out about this question, and Otzi was involved.

What Did I learn?

We learned things like, “How was life for Otzi like?” and “How did Otzi die?” We learned these questions by acting out a mock trial and doing more research. For the mock trial, we had students who had different roles, and they got to choose what role they were. For example, I had to be an EXPERT WITNESS, and I had to answer questions given by the lawyers. This really helps, because now I found out that I could answer most of my questions at the start of this unit.

What Worked Well?

What worked well was that I had many answers in my mind, about the arrowhead in his body. Also, when I acted out the mock trial, everything went well. I did lots of research, and my partner and I worked pretty well together.

What Did Not work?

What didn’t work was that during the actual mock trial event, I freaked out, so, even though I had lots of answers in mind, those were not as specific and precise. Also, during the mock trial event, I forgot to put my slideshow up, so it made my tea seem less convincing. Also, some of my answers were “repeating”, because I kept on explaining stuff about the arrowhead, but that’s the only point our team is trying to prove.

Personal Relevance

I think collaboration skills are important to my future self, as well as now, because in HS, or G7, we’d all have to step out of our comfort zones, so collaborating with people you don’t really know is helpful. Also, learning about the past is also helpful, because maybe your future work requires knowing history from all countries. That’s why learning all of this is helpful for both me, and my future.

Here’s my slide show of being an EXPERT WITNESS:

Soccer Reflection ⚽︎

What did I do?

In this unit, I learned soccer skills, like scoring goals and the rules of soccer. We played different games, often involving boys vs girls, different things.

What worked?
So things worked when we did the soccer warm-ups, dribbling balls. My teammate and I worked very well together, often encouraging each other and playing.

What didn’t quite work?

What didn’t quite work was that sometimes in the games, our team lost, but we still kept a positive attitude. Our goalie was not that attentive, but the way we resolved the question was that we communicated, and worked together.

Egg Car Reflection

What did I do?

In this unit, we did egg cars, similar to the balloon car. We built paper egg cars, like we also learned about the crumple z ones and seatbelts. The criteria are only 1 meter of tape, and the cart cannot be longer than 16.5 meters.

What did I learn?

The Newton’s first law is the law of inertia. It states if an object stays at rest, it will tend to stay at rest. If an object is moving, it will tend to stay moving unless acted upon an unbalanced force. We see the first law in the car when the car hits the concrete ground. The egg still wants to fly out, because of it’s inertia. We see the second law in the car when we first built it, and when we first tested it, with the fake egg, it went so fast, but it succeeded. The second time as with the real egg, and when we tested it, it went slower, but it succeeded.

What went right?

What went right was that our egg cart succeeded, and my partner Lindsey and I worked really well together.

What went not that well?

What went not that well was that our crumple zone wasn’t that solid; it kind of broke down due to the cart hitting the concrete floor.

Balloon Car Reflection 🎢

What did I do?
In this unit, we learned about balanced and unbalanced forces, and we made a balloon cart. The balloon cart was built using plastic plates, and a variety of thin and thick straws. How we built it was, we had to blow up the balloon, and stick the straw inside. After we do that and release the air inside, the balloon car would just go as far as it could. We used it to learn about balanced and unbalanced forces. Newton’s first law says, an object that stays resting will stay resting, an object that stays moving will stay moving unless acted upon an unbalanced force. We see that action when the balloon car releases the air inside. Newton’s second law says, the higher the mass of an object, the more force it needs to accelerate. We see it in the balloon car when the balloon car goes forwards, sometimes it goes really quick, but the one Emily and I built doesn’t really go too far. Newton’s third law says, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. We see it in the balloon cart when we release the air, and blow up the balloon, like when the air goes into the balloon, the balloon blows up so big. 🎈

What worked well?

What worked was our team work was pretty good. We successfully worked together and finally, built a successful balloon cart. Even though some things didn’t work that fast, but overall it was pretty good.

What didn’t work?

What was struggle was that whenever we tried to blow up a balloon, the air releases, and it doesn’t work. One way we figured it out was that we put an elastic band over the balloon, and we thought it would work. But it didn’t; the air couldn’t go inside the balloon! The other way we figured it out was Ms. Cutter gave us a spare one; the balloon car worked PERFECTLY. It was really fun despite all that disaster.

Creative Writing Reflection

October 30, 2025 / Faye /

What are we doing?

Writing a fictional story based on a theme that matters to me.

What are we learning?

Theme (my purpose for writing this story, my message to readers)

Character Development (creating believable characters with positive & negative traits)

Plot (the sequence of events in my story; Western and Eastern approaches to storytelling)

Setting (the world that I create for my story)

What’s working?
So I successfully developed the settings and the structure of my story. Then, I made the end of my story a cliffhanger, so it’s more thrilling. I also developed good characters, like Anna Valiente, the main character, and Ms. Ashdi, the EVIL person, and Minna, Anna’s mom. It does include the themes I chose though; journey and friendship.

Areas of growth

So maybe next time I should focus on the theme more, because my theme is “Don’t let anyone dim your sparkle,” but my story is mostly about Saving Humans from the dying Earth.

Personal Relevance

So creative writing helps me by having more imagination; it helps me think of fictional characters and plots, because personally I like fiction more than non-fiction, so yeah. Some places I like to write is my house, library. I like to listen to lofi and write; it just makes me think better.

Art Reflection 🎨

In this unit, we learned how to manage a clay, like glazing, scratching, and blending. We also learned different art culture, like I chose English culture, and teapots. I chose clay, because I think clay is easy to manage, so I chose to do it.

I think I did well on drawing, free sketch, because I practiced a lot on the holidays, and summer break. I think I also did well on doing my clay project, because I did a teapot, and I blended it really well.

I think I should improve on making plaster things, because I think the hard part is that you have to make it in paper first, and a teapot, for sure a crunched paper ball cannot manage it to be a teapot, right? So then I chose clay.

This is the project I made for plaster; it’s a failed Mickey Mouse because plaster is hard to deal with.
