PE Badminton Unit

During this Pe badminton unit we learnt how to do overhead clear, drop shot, and two types of serves. In most of the classes we would start with warmup, just playing with friends for the first 10 or 15 so minutes and then we would be called in for the teacher teaching us some new moves/serves. We would learn and watch a video and then practice what we learnt for 5 to 10 minutes. Then for the rest of the class we would play badminton and use what we learnt.

Unit 2: Linear Equations and Relationships

Part 1: Unit 2 Topic A and B Test Reflection (Functions & Statistics)

A. Evidence of Your Best Thinking

Select two questions from your Unit 2 test that best show your thinking.

  1. I chose Question 3 as evidence of my best thinking because in this question we were asked to describe the association of the scatter plot in context and I think I did a good job describing as the association is positive, linear, moderate strong relationship with no particular outliers or clusters. The context in this situation suggests if you have higher cost of golf club it is predicted to have greater distance.
  2. I chose Question 4 as evidence of my best thinking because in this question we were given a scatter plot and a line of best fit of y=0.3x+1 and we had to predict how many lemons are in the box while the box weighs 30lb and I showed all my work and got it correct, Then we were asked what the slope means in the context and I also described it well using the word predicted.

B. Skills Reflection

Complete each sentence honestly and thoughtfully.

  1. Throughout Unit 2, I improved the most at describing the association of the scatter plot in context.
  1. One skill from this unit that I still need to work on is describing and creating a clear argument by using more mathematical language and context.
  1. The biggest challenge for me on this assessment was time, I got all of the L3 done but at the end i was running out of time so i only got a 3.5 for the L4: Statistics
  1. One strategy that helped me on this test was remembering to write the word predicted.

Part 2: Goal Reflection & End-of-Semester Check-In

A. Looking Back at Your Last Goal

Last unit, you set this goal: In the next unit, I want to read the questions carefully and make sure to double check.

  1. How well did you work toward this goal?
Very well ☐ Somewhat ☐ I struggled with this
  1. What helped you make progress toward this goal? Being patient and not rushing forwards to complete next question, checking my work before submitting.
  1. What got in the way of this goal (if anything)? Some tests had time restraints so sometimes when time is up I don’t check my work.

B. End-of-Semester Self Reflection

  1. List three strengths you have shown last semester:

Checking my work

Taking my time and not rushing things

Reading questions carefully

  1. List three areas you still want to improve:

Not making silly mistakes

Use mathematical language when creating argument

Aiming for exceeding

C. New Academic Goal Moving Forward

Complete all parts:

  1. In the next unit I want to not make any silly mistakes and check my work
  1. What might get in the way of this goal? Time
  1. What will I do if I get stuck or need help? Ask teacher for help

Math Designing a Story Problem

1. Describe your story and what real-life situation it modeled?

My story is about a company called Snaily Shipping, to ship things overseas from China to the states. Each destination has a pre-determined fixed fee for, in addition to the fixed fee the total cost would also depend on the weight of the items.

2. What part of your project are you most proud of? Why?

I am most proud of solving the problem I created in function notation, I am proud of this because I think I made my work really clear and showed all my steps while including the things we learnt in class.

3. What was the hardest part of creating your piecewise function?

The hardest part of creating my piecewise function is the graphing because in the start i was stuck and didn’t know why and could the lines could overlap but then I figured it out to do inclusive and not inclusive end points.

4. If you could revise one part of this project, what would you improve and how?

If i could revise one part of this project I would check for accuracy in the explanations of domain and range and ensure that every key feature is explained with more precision. Also I could aim for an exceeding level.

5. What did this project help you understand better about piecewise functions?

This project helped me better understand about piecewise function as now i’ve learnt how to mirror it and use it in the real world by solving problems i’ve created in relation to day to day life and using the piecewise function.

Mixed Media Self-Portrait

I would like the audience to know I am a positive, vibrant, and lively person. I showed this by incorporating bright colors on the background. I made my myself blue and dark for the theme color of myself showing contrast because in real like with people i don’t know i’m not that lively compared to people i know. People that don’t me would think i’m scary and intimidated as my friend would say, but on the inner circle they would describe me as a loud and funny person. I think this really fits my personality and is who I am.

Another way the audience would know who I am is the symbols but its more on a surface level, that I do basketball and swimming. The star represents my family of five sides which I value a lot. The giraffe representing friendship, the rabbit representing family and my sibling. There are some words that I think are really inspiring words in the background and the circle and owl ovoxo representing music and the artista that i like.

During this creation of this artwork i took risks and persevered through challenges for example during the spray paint time the first time was really bad and ugly, so i took risk and resprayed it into a better color that matched more which better expressed myself and my personality. I also persevered when we were doing the digital self portrait i didn’t really get it at first but then i persevere and then succeeded after lots of trail and error.

PE Swimming Unit Reflection

During this unit we did some fitness swimming and water polo. In for swimming we did mostly freestyle, head up freestyle, breaststroke, head up breaststroke, and elementary backstroke. For the waterpolo practices we did dribbling with ball and passing the ball with the waterpolo. Then in the end of the class we played games. One thing I improved on is passing and shooting with the water polo, one thing I need improving on is collaboration and communication with teammates.

L4: Artistic Choices – Kool Koor

1. Cultural Influence on Aesthetic Choices

After meeting Kool Koor and learning about his artistic journey, how do you think his background in the graffiti culture of the Bronx influenced his aesthetic choices in the techniques and styles he demonstrated?

The Bronx culture during the 1970s and 80s consists of vibrant mix of urban expression, self expression which is included, expression of identity, emotions, and social messages, for example he he included his identity which is his artist DNA of the seaweed looking thing in his artwork he created with us. Kool Koor also included a sense of momentum within each mark because of the speed on trainyards making the artwork bold, and confident, for example in his demonstration the strokes of this art work has as shown his background including a sense of momentum and the lines bold and confident.

2. Environmental Impact on Art Creation

Considering Kool Koor’s shift from street art to studio work, how do you think different environments (like the streets versus a classroom) impact an artist’s creative process and choices? In what ways did you feel these environmental influences while trying out his painting style?

Street:

Artist need to work quickly because it is often illegal before getting caught and this creates a immediate high energy process with raw and unfiltered expressions. The limit of materials often using spray paint to cover large parts of area and make process more speedy, for example the Graffiti in Milan the older parts of his work uses spray paint, and the line used are bold and have contrast to make it stand out.

Studio:

The studio can provide a secure, controlled space for the artist to slow down and reflect on what they are doing. There is no pressure to finish quickly allowing them to carefully plan. The studio allows for a broad range of materials and tools. An artist can use all sorts of materials and incorporate new materials into their work, as Kool Koor did with his abstract canvases with acrylic and his artwork Canvases – Meisha in his more recent artworks.

3. Personal Reflection on Aesthetic Development

What aspects of your culture or environment do you think will influence your future artistic choices for your self-portrait mixed media artwork? How can you incorporate elements from your own background into your artwork to express your unique identity?

I think I would going to have a lot of color and simple shapes because I would say I am a happy, vibrant person which matched with the color I would choose and the simple shapes because it easy and I’m a easy person and the background I grew up in is really positive and happy so it would be choosing vibrant colors. The environment would be in the art classroom with plenty of materials so I would take my time and use lots of materials.

Science Semester 1 Active Learner Reflection

My current goal is planning more collaboration work with my tablemate. I think we need to talk and be engaged in group discussions. I will in the future talk more with my tablemate and actively talk in group discussions. The progress I have made towards my goal is talking and sharing my ideas with my table mate, for example last class we were asked to work on a research document together and talk about it, me and my partners all shared our ideas.

What are you most proud of in this class so far?
(Think about times when you showed persistence, improvement, collaboration, or deep understanding.)

One thing I am proud of is knowing what we are learning in science class for example I’m getting full marks on the 3 for 3s we did in class, showcasing a solid understanding in the topic we have covered.

10.What has been your biggest challenge in this class?
(For example: managing time, staying focused, contributing in group work, or understanding a concept.)

One big challenge in this class is contributing to class discussions.

11.How have you demonstrated the qualities of an Active Learner — preparing effectively, participating fully, collaborating well, staying positive, and reflecting to improve? (Are there any areas where you want to grow or improve next quarter?)

I have shown active learner as i have always completed my work on time and handed it in, i am always prepared for the classes, having everything i need, collaborating well and doing what I need to do.

Science Unit 1 Meteoroid/Meteorite Model

In this project we were tasked to create a Scientific Model of the Forces, Energy &
Matter involved in a Meteoroid becoming a Meteorite we had to add physical, conceptual, or mathematical representation in the model and include our learning of the whole unit and add it into our model.

Below is the requirement for the model and we also had to the meet the Model Anchor Chart to ensure the model aligns with all SAS expectations.

One thing I did well is effectively illustrates the stages of transformation from a meteoroid to a meteorite, showcasing key concepts such as gravitational forces, atmospheric friction, and energy transformation. I don’t think I need anything to improve

Social Studies: Unit 1 – Inquiry into Interest

In this unit we chose a topic we were interested in and wanted to dive deeper in. For example my inquiry question was To what extent did the Black Lives Matter movement, 2013 to present shape the content and development of mainstream music in the US?

We first found our topic and started to research about it and find keywords, then we put our findings into a graphic organizer to organize our work.

Then we started to write CERs on our thesis/claim from the evidence we found and for example my thesis was: The Black Lives Matter movement has significantly influenced mainstream music, leading to joining of viral protest music, social media amplification, and significant donations from artists and companies marked a historical moment in integrating social issues into mainstream music culture. The peak of this impact occurred in 2020 following George Floyd’s murder, when artists and the music industry responded rapidly to growing calls for racial justice. However, these changes reflect a shift that is significant but not complete, as the industry must continue to change and ensure a lasting transformation.

Finally we organize our work and put them into our final poster.

Something I did well in this unit is finding the credible sources and writing good evidence and reasonings. One thing that I think that needs improving in this unit is write less and make my work more concised, like not adding so much words to my poster.
