Collaboration

During the Apprenticeship program, I participated in a group project where I took part in. This involved setting deadlines and ensuring everyone had the resources they needed. By fostering an environment where everyone felt comfortable sharing ideas, we were able to combine our strengths and produce a successful outcome.

I encountered a disagreement with a teammate about the direction of our project. Instead of having an argument, we discuss our differing viewpoints openly. We each presented our ideas, and I encouraged the team to weigh the pros and cons of both perspectives. This approach allowed us to find common ground and ultimately led to a solution that incorporated both of our ideas.

From this experience, I learned the importance of open communication and active listening in resolving conflicts. I assess my contributions by considering factors like my ability to engage with others, meet deadlines, and support my teammates. I believe these criteria will guide me in future projects, helping me become an even more effective collaborator.

creativity

There was a time during a project when my creative output was challenged by feedback by the if. It was the Task 9 . I had completed one task and thought it was engaging and good enough, but the IF thought it wasn’t workable. Initially, I felt defensive and began to doubt my abilities. However, I took a step back and chose to view the feedback as an opportunity for growth.

When I reflect on my own creative work, I often feel pride and criticality. I take pride in the effort I put in, but I can also be quite self-critical, focusing on what I could have done better. I realize that these feelings can be harnessed to improve my future projects. Celebrating my successes motivates me, while constructive criticism pushes me to refine my skills.

When faced with creative blocks, I assess my skills by identifying what areas I feel less confident in. I try to break down the block into manageable parts and use strategies like brainstorming or seeking inspiration from others. Taking breaks and allowing myself the freedom to explore without pressure often helps me rediscover my creativity.

Critical thinking

During the Apprenticeship, I often faced tasks that required me to analyze information and make decisions based on evidence. My thinking process typically begins with gathering all relevant data and facts. I break down the problem into smaller parts, identifying key factors that influence the situation. Then, I weigh the pros and cons of different options, considering how each choice aligns with our goals. This methodical approach helps me stay organized and focused on finding the best solution.

One time, I encountered a problem about the wordplay task 13and I had to choose 20 words.  To resolve this, I organized a brainstorming and thinking to myself which would be the most important words i was going to choose.  I mapped out each idea, discussed the potential impact, and considered various outcomes.

To ensure I’ve considered all relevant perspectives, I use self-check strategies like asking open-ended questions to challenge my assumptions. I also seek feedback from teammates and mentors, which helps me see the issue from different viewpoints. By reflecting on my analysis and remaining open to new information, I can make more informed decisions and improve my problem-solving skills. Criti

communication

Reflecting on my communication style in middle school, I remember being quieter and not being able to speak up that much. Now that I’m in high school, the expectations for communication have shifted significantly. There’s a greater emphasis on critical thinking, articulating complex ideas, and engaging in meaningful discussions. I feel confident in my ability to express my thoughts clearly and participate in debates.

One instance where I had to listen actively was during a group project in English. The teacher offered feedback on our approach, and I made a conscious effort to focus on their words even though I might not agree or believe that feedback. My active listening helped me grasp their insights fully, allowing me to ask clarifying questions. This not only strengthened our project but also knew the expectations and gave me a chance to respond to his feedback.

To determine if I’ve communicated my ideas successfully, I often look for feedback from my audience. I’m generally critical of myself, analyzing what I could improve. While this helps me refine my skills, it can also undermine my confidence. Balancing self-critique with acknowledgment of my successes can enhance my communication abilities, allowing me to grow while maintaining a positive self-image.

resilience

Since entering 9th grade, I’ve learned valuable lessons about resilience. I’ve realized that setbacks are a natural part of growth, and facing challenges can lead to personal development. Understanding that resilience isn’t just about bouncing back but also about adapting and learning from experiences has shifted my perspective. This insight will be instrumental in tackling future challenges, as I now see obstacles as opportunities for growth rather than roadblocks.

One setback occurred when I struggled with a difficult subject and received a disappointing grade on an exam and hated the teacher. Initially, I felt mad, but I recognized the need to take action. I tried to seek help and clarification from my teacher (didn’t work) dedicated extra time to study and even shared my notes with others. Through this process, I learned that asking for help is a strength, not a weakness, and that perseverance is key to overcoming difficulties.

To bounce back from setbacks, I focus on maintaining a positive mindset and creating an action plan. I evaluate my resilience based on criteria such as my ability to adapt, seek support, and remain committed to my goals. This approach helps me stay motivated and reinforces the idea.

My fairytale

Once upon a time, or maybe, not so long ago, lived the White family. Snow White, a beautiful 18 year old daughter of Mr White, lives in a mansion with her father and her stepmother. Mr white divorced with Snow White’s mother when she is at the age of 5, leaving Snow white on her own with her stepmother.

Snow white: “WHERE DID SHE PUT IT AGAIN? I COULDN’T FIND ANY OF MY STUFF!”

Snow White hates her stepmother. Even though she is really nice to her, Snow White thinks that she is the reason why her parents divorced.

Snow White: ARGH, I just can’t stand her! When can my father spend more time with me than spending time with her!

Snow White wants her real mother back, so she thinks of a plan……. One day, Snow white went off to a pharmacy store. She asked the dwarf working for help. She screamed in a very impolite tone to ask to speak to the manager. The little dwarf look scared and threatened, and told her that he is the manager.

Snow White asked for a poison that can be put into an apple. The warmhearted dwarf kindly asked Snow White what she wanted to do with the poison, but Snow White raged and insulted the dwarf very hard: “NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS, you vertically challenged gnome!. Now give me that poison!”

Dwarf: I’m sorry, miss. But we have a rule that we cant sell poison to customers without a clear understanding of what they’re gonna do with it.

However, Snow White did not appreciate the dwarf’s help and got more mad at him.

“ I DONT CARE! JUST GIMME THAT POISON! OR ELSE I WILL TELL MY FATHER TO SUE YOUR WHOLE BUSINESS AND FIRE YOU. I WILL MAKE HIM DESTROY THAT STUPID PHARMACY OF YOURS, IF I WANT.”

The poor dwarf can do nothing but give her that poison. He grabbed it from the end of the shelf and hand it to Snow White with trembling hands and bowing as he left.

Dwarf: “Yessss, miss. Here is your poison. Please don’t sue me. I am sorry for the attitude.”

Snow white ignored him and took the poison and went straight out of the store. When snow white went back home, she wanted to give the poison to her step-mother, but her father found out. Now snow white is being grounded for 10 days in her room. Snow Whites father is really mad at her and couldn’t understand why she would poison her kind and caring stepmother.

Snow white: I…I dont know, dad. I just want you to spend more time with me. You always have things to do, and you dont even have time to play my favorite board game with me.

This story portrays the issue of how divorced families don’t realize the importance of spending time with their child which can cause a lot of problems. It also shows the social gap issue of how higher economic class people treat the poor workers unequally. Snow white did nothing wrong, but she just wants her father to spend more time with her.

Interview

For the apprenticeship tasks, i interviewed 6 friends on this question: “Where is a place/country you would like to live when you grow up and why?”

here are the answers of my friends:Jianan: Tokyo because the city’s vibe is very nice and Japanese people are all very nice and she loves the Japanese food.

Chloe: isolated island because no one can bother her and she is very introverted.

Nora: Hawaii because she loves beaches and ocean.

Tina: europe America and Asia because she thinks europe is very beautiful and likes the culture. Asia because she might just choose to live in china, and America because she might finish school there and would just live there.

Selina: a huge house with all her friends in Switzerland where there is snow. She loves snow and she likes to live with her friends rather than family

Hannah: Maldives because it is a very pretty place and relaxing, with oceans and water slides.

conclusion: after this interview, i realized that people would rather live in vacation places like Hawaii or Maldives that is close to the sea. They also like to live in places with good food, such as tokyo or Asia.

How to stop AI from replacing me🫡

Today in learning lab we made a goal about our use of GenAI. This is my goal: I want to make an effort to do my independent thinking before turning to AI. Then, I chose a clarification prompt and my commitment. The clarification card asked What might stop you from reaching your AI-related goal? So for me, I chose this goal because I feel like I rely on AI too much that I do not use my brain to think before turning to AI for help and it is not a good idea. It is very easy to stop me from my goal because I might be lazy and doesn’t want to think when I do work and just rely on AI to think about creative ideas. I just need to make sure I take time to think about my own work and think about it myself before I use AI to help enhance it and make it better. My commitment card is I want to achieve my goal by quitting all AI platforms for the first 15 minutes when I do my work and just have plain think and write time on my own before turning to AI for help or to make my writing better. I will track my progress by setting up a to do list for the homework I need to do and when I complete each one I will write whether this task has the involvement of AI and how much I used it. This will help remind me of how much AI i use to complete tasks and whether it affected me or not.

Think before you post

Today in Learning Lab we were doing the skits about some scenarios in skillful communication.Think before you post and consider the consequences online. This is very important because sometimes conflicts happen online because we do not think about the consequences online versus offline. People are genuinely more active online because they think there are no consequences and things said can be undo or deleted. However, people should think twice before anything rude or something that can upset others. we should consider the consequence and other’s feelings before posting something.

Chamber of Etiquette🫡

The skill Chamber of Etiquette helps us to understand the basic standards and rules we should follow in the library in order to maintain a good community. Understanding these skills will make library a better place and it will definitely influence my behavior. I will try my best to be quiet and talk in an indoor voice as possible so I don’t disturb others and I will also make sure I pick up the trash and packagings for the food to be an ethical global citizen.

mi cadaver no se siento bienđź’€

  1. Middle School reflections: What do you wish you’d known?
-how asking the teacher and advocating for yourself is very important, because these skills would definitely help in high school as well. I hope I’d known how to manage my procrastination skills so that I am able to finish my homework on time. I also hope that I can be more independent so that when problems or obstacles approach me, I am able to stay calm and resolve it myself. Problem solving skills and advocating for myself is extra important as I think it will stay with me for the whole life. The public speaking unit in middle school was very important and I wish I could have did that a bit more and learn more public speaking skills since high school requires a lot of it.
  2. High School excitement: What are you looking forward to? I not really looking forward to high school, since I understand that high school will be filled with grades, tests, clubs, and no freedom. I just cannot believe I started high school already at the age of 13. College seems so far away but time passes really fast. I’ll probably be a senior the time I look back at this paragraph. Honestly, I didn’t have anything I look forward to but since I have to answer this question I would say I really like the friday delivery food policy and the little more freedom of deciding what to do during free periods. It might help me in my self management in using time efficiently.
