Resilience

Over the past semester, I have experienced significant growth in my resilience, largely through facing challenges head-on and learning to adapt. At the beginning, I struggled with time management and balancing my academic responsibilities with personal commitments. Recognizing these difficulties, I started setting clear priorities and breaking tasks into smaller, manageable steps. This approach not only reduced my overwhelm but also instilled a sense of accomplishment as I checked items off my list.

Moreover, I actively sought feedback from peers and professors, which offered me valuable perspectives and learning opportunities. I learned to view setbacks as opportunities for growth rather than failures. For instance, a disappointing grade on an assignment motivated me to reassess my study strategies and seek additional resources, ultimately leading to improved performance in subsequent tasks.

Additionally, I embraced mindfulness practices, which helped me stay calm during stressful periods and maintain a positive outlook. Surrounding myself with supportive friends and family reinforced my determination and reminded me of the importance of community during tough times. As a result, I’ve become more adaptable and confident in my ability to navigate obstacles, and I now view challenges as a crucial part of my personal and academic journey.

So, in conclusion, even though I have not completed any tasks in this category I believe I have still grown substantially in this area of my life.

Skillful Communicator

As part of my journey as a skillful communicator, I completed a single, yet profoundly impactful task. In this task, my partner Carey and I, along with a few others, were assigned the delightful responsibility of entertaining a group of children through the art of storytelling. We recognized that reading to kids was not merely about reciting words from a book; it was an opportunity to ignite their imaginations and foster a love for literature.

With this understanding in mind, Carey and I approached the task with enthusiasm and creativity. We strived not only to read the stories but also to enhance the experience in ways that would make it enjoyable and memorable for the children. We incorporated expressive voices, animated gestures, and interactive elements to engage the kids fully. For instance, we asked them questions about the characters and the plot, encouraging their participation and keeping their attention captivated.

Our goal was to create an environment where the children felt comfortable expressing their thoughts and emotions related to the stories. This experience taught me the importance of adapting communication styles to suit the audience’s needs, especially when engaging with younger individuals. Ultimately, the task not only allowed us to share the joy of reading but also strengthened our skills as communicators, as we learned how to connect with an audience and make learning a fun and inviting process.

Creative Learner

The first task I undertook involved watching a quick tutorial on a magic trick, and then learning it well enough to perform in front of a small audience. This experience not only highlighted my creative learner skills but also posed a significant challenge. I had to master the trick well enough to captivate and convince my audience, all within a limited timeframe. As I performed, I realized how much this task benefited my learning process. It required me to focus sharply, absorb information quickly, and apply what I had learned in real-time. The pressure of performing in front of others pushed me to refine my execution and enhance my presentation skills. Overall, this task served as an invaluable exercise in rapid skill acquisition and helped me build confidence in my ability to learn and adapt under the constraints of time.

The next task I did was designing a card game with my partner Carey. This posed a significant challenge as I had to brainstorm an I idea that was not only unique, but also fun in its own right. Doing this task served to develop my creative learning abilities effectively and also give me something fun to do in my free time.

Critical Thinker

For my first task, I played a game of Gomoku with Jason. This experience proved to be a significant opportunity for us to exercise our critical thinking skills as we navigated a game that was relatively new to both of us. As we dove into the gameplay, we were challenged to analyze our positions and anticipate our opponent’s moves. Crafting effective strategies became essential, as we sought to outmaneuver one another. This task not only enhanced our understanding of the game’s mechanics but also fostered a spirit of camaraderie and teamwork. Ultimately, the experience of grappling with a fresh challenge benefited us immensely, enabling us to sharpen our problem-solving abilities in real-time.

The next and final task I undertook was with Carey, where we set out to design a short comic. In this comic we were required to use a basketball, a broom, and a garden gnome in order to stop a robber . This project truly tested our critical thinking skills, as we were compelled to think outside the box and devise innovative solutions to an unconventional problem. We brainstormed various scenarios, considering how each object could contribute to the storyline in an entertaining and imaginative way. This task not only allowed us to flex our creative muscles but also reinforced the importance of collaboration and resourcefulness in overcoming challenges.

Collaboration Reflection

One of the collaboration tasks I participated in was Task #8, called Zoom. In this task, our class was assigned random pages, each depicting a zoomed-in version of another page. The challenge was that we were not allowed to talk to each other, yet we had to work together to arrange the pages in the correct order and solve the puzzle. Despite the lack of verbal communication, we successfully collaborated and completed the task. This exercise was an excellent way to enhance our teamwork while reinforcing our ability to collaborate effectively without words.

Another task I did was task #10. In this project, my partner Carey and I were presented with two similar music pieces, one was the original composition, and the other was a cover version. We were assigned the important task of collaborating by thoroughly comparing and contrasting the two pieces. This assignment required both me and my partner to engage in conversation as we analyzed the various elements, styles, and emotions conveyed in each version. Throughout this process, we successfully collaborated, sharing our thoughts and ideas while listening to and respecting each other’s viewpoints. Both of us brought very valid arguments in favor of each respective piece, highlighting different aspects that made each version unique. Despite our discussions, we ultimately found it challenging to decide on which piece we preferred. However, through this engaging debate, both my partner and I were able to significantly enhance our collaborative skills and develop our ability to work effectively as a team. This experience reinforced the value of respectful dialogue and cooperation in achieving productive outcomes.

The final task I undertook involved assisting in the construction of the components for the science balloon cars, which was an engaging experience. In this task, our group was tasked with the responsibility of quickly sorting various components necessary for the balloon cars and distributing them into multiple bags. This required not only teamwork but also effective communication and organization. This collaborative effort not only brought us closer as a team but also ensured that we completed the sorting task promptly. This experience was helpful in building my ability to work efficiently in a large group setting. I learned the importance of coordination and the value of each person’s contributions to achieving a common goal. Overall, this task was not just about assembling materials for the balloon cars, it was also a valuable lesson in teamwork, communication, and the satisfaction that comes from working together to accomplish a shared objective.

Critical Thinker Task 15 Gomoku

In this task with Jason I developed a strategy to win in Gomoku. This strategy consists of playing defensive until on opportunity to make a dual 4 in a row swell as making offensive moves every once in a while to throw them off.

Unique Card Game (Task 4 Creative Learner)

Carey, Jason, and I designed a unique card game where the goal is to Get rid of all your cards as quickly as possible.

In this card game, each player (with a max of three but two is faster) draw 7 cards from deck. We then move in turns (going clockwise). With each turn the player can either draw a card from the deck or attempt to match cards. Cards can be matched byname color number sequence (Ex. 5 4 3 3 all black) or by matching the same card with it different suites. Along with placing their own cards, cards that are already in play can be moved around I order to set up your own plays. If by the time the deck is gone and nobody has gotten rid of their cards then the games is determined a draw and can be started again.

Here’s what a completed games looks like

Effective Collaborator

When the new kids arrived in learning lab me and a few others chose to help show the new kids around the school. This act required effective collaboration with people a I have Never met before and was a great opportunity to one help build this skill, and to also make new friends.

Drawing Obscure Solutions

Working with my partner Carry designed a short comic on how a gnome, broom, and basketball could be used to stop a robber. In order to complete this task we used our creativity and critical thinking.
