Eagle Apprenticeship Program

Introduction

Participating in the eagle apprenticeship program at my school has been an incredible experience that helped me learn many important skills. I have improved in areas like communication, collaboration, and critical thinking. Each activity in this program taught me something valuable that I can use in my daily life. Whether it was working with others, solving problems, or coming up with creative ideas, I was able to grow as a person. Some tasks were challenging, but they pushed me to think in new ways and learn from my mistakes. I also had the opportunity to work on projects that helped me build confidence in my abilities. By trying different activities, I discovered what I enjoy and where I can improve. This program has shown me the importance of being open to new experiences and always being willing to learn. The skills I developed will help me in school, future jobs, and everyday life. In the following sections, I will describe some of the most important experiences that shaped my journey and helped me become a better learner and team member.

Learning to Work Together: voting with teammates

One of the biggest lessons I learned in this program was how to work well with others. Voting and choosing a t-shirt design were two activities that helped me become a better team player. While voting, I had to communicate clearly, listen to different opinions, and work with others to complete a task. At first, it was challenging to all agree on where a t-shirt design should be placed on a scale because everyone had different opinions. However, I learned that teamwork means finding a way to combine everyone’s thoughts. During the voting, I had to be patient and understand that not everything would all go my way. Sometimes, we had to change our approach to make things work. There were some moments where my group and I had to solve these dilemmas together. We had to listen to each other, share ideas, and decide on the best rating. This experience taught me that working together is not just about getting the job done—it’s about learning to hear my teammates and come to an agreement. Whether in school, or in everyday life, teamwork is an essential skill that I will continue to use.

Improving Communication: speed debating

Another important skill I developed was communication. Being able to share ideas clearly and listen to others is very important. One activity that helped me improve my communication skills was debating. While working on preparation, I had to make sure that my statements were interesting and easy to understand. This meant choosing my words carefully and making sure my audience would stay engaged. It was also important to be creative so that my ideas stood out. I learned that communication is not just about talking, it’s also about knowing what others want to hear and how to say it in the best way. debating had helped me practice speaking confidently. I had to explain my side to an audience and convince them why it was important. At first, I was nervous, but I learned that confidence comes from knowing your topic and believing in what you are saying. I also realized that listening is just as important as speaking. I needed to pay attention to others’ questions and respond in a way that made sense. These experiences showed me that good communication is about more than just words, it’s helps with connecting with people and making sure they understand what you are trying to say.

Thinking Critically: building a website

One of the most useful skills I developed in this program was critical thinking. This means being able to look at a problem from different angles and find the best solution. Two activities that helped me improve my critical thinking were coding and designing a website. In the activity, I had to come up with a creative website for a school project. At first, it was difficult because there were so many themes that my website could use. However, I learned that critical thinking means looking at all the options and choosing the best one based on logic and reasoning.

Getting the page to look how I had wanted it challenged me to find an appropriate theme to meet the criteria. I had to compare different choices and think about their pros and cons. This experience taught me that making decisions requires logic, careful thinking, and sometimes even trial and error. Developing my critical thinking skills has made me more confident in using problem solving skills, whether in school or in everyday life.

Using Creativity: Designing a book cover

Creativity is an important skill that helps people come up with new ideas and solve problems in unique ways. In this program, two activities that helped me develop my creativity were creating various book covers. In the activity, I had to think outside the box and come up with something original. It was fun to explore different ideas and see how I could make them work. I had to find a way to effectively portray the book in the cover while maintaining the same vibe of the story

Creating the design challenged me to create something that would capture people’s attention. I had to consider things like design, presentation, and storytelling. This experience taught me that creativity requires both imagination and planning. I also learned that sometimes, the first result will not always be the best. Being creative has helped me feel more confident in sharing my ideas and exploring new possibilities such as using new sites to design book covers.

Building Strength and Resilience: Making a vision board

Throughout this program, I also learned about resilience, which means staying strong even when things get tough. Two activities that helped me develop resilience were making a vision board and taking a VIA survey which helped me identify my strengths and weaknesses. In the first activity, I had to put all of my hopes and wishes for the future and put it on one board, designing and making it all look good. This experience showed me that even when in school I have to have a goal set so that I can make a plan in order to achieve my goal. Even when things don’t go as planned, it is important to keep trying and not give up so that in the end I can get to my dream school and have my dream job of an anesthesiologist

The second activity, Taking the VIA survey, helped me learn more about myself such as my strengths and weaknesses. I found that things like leadership and love are my strengths. This experience taught me that learning about myself isn’t just about stuff on the outside or my personality it can be about stuff like my strengths and what I’m good at. By learning how to take care of my well-being, I feel more prepared for the future. No matter what obstacles come my way, I now know what skills I’m good at and what I can improve.

Conclusion

Through my experiences in the eagle apprenticeship program, I have gained many important skills that will help me in the future. I have learned how to work well with others, communicate effectively, stay strong during challenges, think critically, and use creativity in different ways. Every activity has helped me grow and become more confident in my abilities. This program has shown me that learning doesn’t always have to be through text books or math problems, it can happen through hands-on experiences and real-life challenges. I am grateful for everything I have learned, and I know that the skills I have developed will help me throughout my life. No matter what I do in the future, I will continue to build on these skills and keep learning. This experience has taught me the value of hard work, teamwork, and perseverance.

Apprenticeship Activities Reflection

Being CreAItive

I want to try to use AI as a learning helper, but always try to understand and do the work on my own. I want to try to do this my conversing with an AI chat bot in spanish to improve my communicational skills in spanish and using more daily talk. If I continue to do this and consistently practice with AI my understanding of spanish can improve greatly.

EUA takeaway 💻

When going online you have to consider what you are saying because it can me misinterpreted and can cause arguments between some people because they do not interpret it the same way. So when there is a misunderstanding make sure they recipient understands it the way that you meant it.

Library of Lore: The Tomb of Reflection

Its important to be able to properly credit your sources because when you are working in a class, and you will need to write a paper you need to have sources and need to learn how to properly credit those sources, if you do not credit those sources it can be considered as plagiarism and lose points for your grade.

Launching my portfolio

When I had first joined the school there were a few things that i was excited and looking forward to in high school. i was first looking forward to all of the school trips that I would have. I was also excited for finally going to high school and becoming a freshman.

When I had pictured high school, the first thing i thought of was gpa and having to maintain a good gpa to get into a good college. But that wouldn’t be the only thing i would have to worry about. I would later have to worry about having to take an sat exam. But with high school there are both good sides and bad sides.

Now in a few days all of grade nine will go on the school trip called TheNine as our very first trip as high schoolers.

Another thing that I like about high school is being able to order food every friday for lunch instead of eating the food that they serve at school. High Schoolers are allowed to have their phones out which is so much more freedom compared to middle school when we had to have our phones in our bags at all times. So far i have ordered pizza with my friends on our first friday of being able to order food and today we might order something different.

Welcome to Your New Portfolio!

Why have a digital portfolio at SAS?

Creating a portfolio, or blog is a great way to collect all the work you’ve done throughout your academic career. You can include academic, athletic, and personal artifacts or experiences that you want to share with a wider audience. This is a great way to organize all your learning in one place and you can take it with you when you leave SAS.  When you make your portfolio, you create posts that are categorized according to your subject. Some categories have already been set up for you, but if you need more categories you can add them as needed. It’s important that your posts have the following:

  • An engaging title – this should not include the name of the subject since this is referenced in the category. Think of this as the first opportunity to engage and hook your reader!
  • Body – this is where you share your learning. This should include a combination of text and media in the form of images, graphics, and embedded videos. You should always consider how your post looks to your audience. Is it engaging and organized? Do they want to keep reading?
  • Category – select one that has been set for you or add a new category. Posts can have more than one category e.g. Humanities and Myself as a Learner
  • Tags – create tags that can be used as keywords to describe your post. Tags help organize your post a little more! Aim to have 3-5 tags for each post. For example, if you are posting about a novel you wrote, you might want the following tags: #Fiction, #MurderMystery, #Theme, #PlotDiagram
