We were supposed to make a presentation explaining the technology you chose. I chose to research on the television, I learned about the positive and negative impacts of the television. Other than that, we are required to research about who was responsible for fixing the negative impacts? Why was that group responsible for fixing it… I chose to make my presentation like this because I think a visual presentation is a very creative way to show my work. Also I think I should try something new rather than using my devices.
Write one thing that you think you did well
I think one thing I did well on was creating my model. Because I was able to finish it successfully and also I enjoyed the process of making it. I wanted to finish my model like I wanted to look like, so I also spent extra time working at home on it.
Write one thing you think you need to work on for next time
Next time I think I could work on my overall management. Because I wanted to make my model “perfect” but I also needed to finish my graphic organizer. So I had to do the graphic organizer at school and finish my model at home.
In this unit, we had to research about a way of transportation or a way of communication technology. I chose to do a way of communication. I started to research about television, and work on graphic organizers…
One thing I did well in my essay.
I was able to complete writing my positive impacts paragraph with no errors. I also learned a lot after my researches of the television. For example, one new thing I learned was that television could cause aggression.
One thing I still need to learn to do.
Work on organizing my work. Because that could help improve my writing, my logic would be more clearly connected together. And all my work would be clearly shown out.
U: What do you understand in this unit? I understood how to solve percent changes, and how to use a percent equation.
N: What new information did you learn in this unit? I learned how to solve percent changes and know what a percent equation is, also I learned how to solve these question with word problems and models.
I: What was interesting in this unit? I think learning how to calculate percent changes is interesting, because after I learned how to solve it, it was pretty easy. And this skill could help me with situations in the real world.
T: What was tricky for you in this unit? sometimes tricky numbers can cause calculation errors for me.
Essential Question: What happens inside our bodies when we get sick?
How did what you learned about cells and human body systems help you to answer this essential question?
It helped me answer the essential question because after my research on epilepsy, I learned that this type of disease is related to the nervous system. It happens when there are sudden bursts of electrical activity in the brain, which disturbs the normal communication between nerve cells. Causing seizures, seizures can include changes to your awareness, muscle control, sensations, emotions and behavior. (this is what happens inside your body when you have epilepsy)
How does this relate to the idea that the body is a system of subsystems made up of groups of cells?
The nervous system is made up of a lot of nerve cells, and these cells communicate between each other with electrical signals. But when you have epilepsy, there will be sudden bursts of electrical signals, disturbing the communication between neurons. This shows that the nervous system is a subsystem made up of group of cells. And when these cells malfunction, it affects the entire system. The human body is a system made up of subsystems, and each subsystem needs proper functioning of its cells. When one subsystem is affected, it can impact the whole body.
I think Group work (VR or Cardboard Human body project, Cell Analogies, Microscope Observations, Connectors) is the most impactful for me, because during the human body project me and my partner was able to research about the digestive system on our own. Taking notes and discussing with my partner helped a lot, helping me learn a lot about the digestive system. Also creating the 3D model was fun, because we showed our creativity by making the organs with different materials. I think this shows me that I am a creative and collaborative learner. Also Dissections (Pigās heart/ lungs and Bullfrog) is a very memorable experiment. It helped me learn more about how organs like the lung function. Including the dissection of the bullfrog showed me how all of the subsystems worked together to form the main body systems. And how the main body systems like the circulatory and respiratory system work together to make our body function.
One thing I would like to improve is, adding all required elements of a model (title, labels, descriptions, scale, and color). This is because I forgot to add the title on both my jello cell model, and 3D cell model. Also on the 3D cell model I should be more careful creating it, because I added some cell organelles that isn’t supposed to be on my type of cell. Explaining why my type of cell doesn’t have a vacuole, and clarifying the difference between my cell and a normal cell would also earn me a better score.
In this unit we learned about making clocks on inkscape and laser cutting it out. Then we would spray paint and build them. The requirements are having different colors and materials to make this clock.
I struggled on making my design look good and work on inkscape. When I’m done with that, the rest of building is easy for me.
I am proud of how I can build a clock myself because I have never tried that! I was able to design a clock for my client and make it on inkscape. And I tried spray painting also for the first time.
In this unit, we tried a lot of different things. Like building race cars, 3D printing, laser cutting, building robots, coding robots, spray painting. I have learned many different skills and even though I might not use it during normal life, but this could help me if I need it in the future.
Sometimes I struggle on completing a certain task when I buikd the car, so I would ask my friends and they will help me with this step. I also struggle on finding the right instructions for coding the robot.
I am proud of how I can persevere through challenges and complete the task. I try to make all my works organized so it would look nicer.
What I learned during this unit it how to collaborate with your teammates. We split up the roles and make sure everyone is ok with it. We will also change roles during the game so we can try more roles. I also learned how to control my dribbles better.
Something I am proud of is I am able to make a plan with my group and use it during the game. I can pass the ball to my teammates and use this to help me get closer to the goal.
I think something I should work on is have better defence skills. Because when others come, it’s hard for me to steal the ball from them.
U: What do you understand in this unit? I understood the relationship between scale factors, scale copy…
N: What new information did you learn in this unit? I learned how to find the scale factor using the remaining info
I: What was interesting in this unit? I learned the relationship between different scale drawings. And how to find scale factors with real life scenarios.
T: What wasĀ trickyĀ for you in this unit? finding corresponding angles (?)
When the volleyball is moving fast, I infer where it’s going to land and go there before hand to be ready. Also I focus by keeping my eye on the ball at all times.
Some challenges I face is, when the ball goes really high. When it comes down for me it’s hard to control where it goes.
Some strategies is to let everyone spread out, so we won’t miss too much that are far away. Also to remember to look at where the outer line is. So when the ball is about to go out, you know that you shouldn’t go hit it.
3. What are some pieces of feedback that you received and then incorporated into your work? Don’t stutter while I speak since when I was doing it I was really nervous. And I tried to change that by keeping notice if I had stuttered. Also I tried staying calm and going through my presentation like how I planned it would go. Another piece of feedback I got was having more eye contact, I haven’t practiced a lot of times so I still have to rely on my note card. And that caused less eye contact in my presentation, I tried to change this by practicing more so I wouldn’t have to look at the note card all the time and have more eye contact with the audiences. Positive feedbacks were I was straight forward into my point in my explaining.
4. Explain 1 thing that you are proud of from this unit.Ā I added lots of explaining, and I was able to understand the meanings of ethos and pathos. (At first I didn’t know what ethos and pathos was) After searching online and asking the teacher, I was able to know what to write for ethos and pathos in my presentation. My explaining was “upgraded” by me after the first time I presented in class. And now I have all the information more understandable.
5. Explain 1 thing that you want to keep working on.Ā
Using my time more effectively, since it took me more than I thought to finish this project. So next time I could have more awareness on how much time I took so I could control it to be shorter.
6. In your own words, explain what Bias is.Ā
Leaning against a person, a group or an opinion in a way that isn’t fair.
7. Explain 1 positive outcome of people having the same perspective might be. We can agree on this thinking and contribute even farther.
8. Explain 1 negative outcome of people having the same perspective might be.Ā You won’t receive new ideas or perspectives, since it’s the same idea. And you won’t learn or improve like that.
