I learned about all the characteristics of Dystopian fiction and how to plan for a literary discussion.

I enjoyed the giver very much because the book is full of suspense nd i am dying to know what happens next, the Giver is also the first dystopian fiction book i have ever read.

Dystopian fiction encouraged me to think about real life, the differences and similarities, and the benifits and the disadvantages of the Giver realm and the real world, sometimes, I even think that Lois lowry’s realm might work better than our messed up real world.

I think that my ability to write academic paragraphs had improved because of writing them every week.

I have become better at literature discussions because I organize my notes into different catagories, therfore, if I want to say something, I can find it easily.

Unit ll: Γ–tzi Unit Reflection

1.What did I work on?

a. During this unit, β€˜Why should we care about the past?’, I worked on

i. Making observations, inferences and wonderings

ii. Using photos and articles as evidence

iii. Writing a CER paragraph

iv. Asking and answering open and closed questions

v. Taking part in the Otzi Mock Trial, my role was court reporter.

2.What did I learn? Why should we care about the past?

a. We should care about the past because the past can inspire many more

high-tech things in the future.

3.What worked well?

a. I am proud of the following work: my CER paragraph, and my Γ–tzi case files work.

b. I am proud of the work above because I worked very hard to finish them, and I put a lot of effort into them.

4.What did not work well?

a. I found some of this work challenging, like my jury observation checklist.

b. I found the work above challenging because it was hard to take notes when some people were talking very fast.

5.Personal Relevance

a. Collaboration and communications skills are important in my future because I am positive I will get into arguments when I grow up, so this will really help me stay calm and figure out strategies.

6.This is a photo of my work about my mock trial evidence graphic organizer

Math Bake Sale🍰

We were doing a bake sale today, my partners are : Karington and Gwendolyn, we were making red velvet cake.

We learned about rates and percents this unit, and they turned out to be very helpful calculating the amount we needed while baking and converting the amout in to different units.and I was overall, very proud of myself, even if I missed a whole week, I used the time that I had to contribute to the group as much as I could.

It worked really well making the frosting, Karington made it before and the frosting turned out cold and tasty. Personally, I thout it was a big sucess since I never baked before.

It was difficult to mix everything with the time so short, and my house had no measuring cup exept for one measured in milimliters, so me and Karington had to convert them in†o mililiters.

This bake sale was relevant because I had a lot of fun, and while having fun, I could also calculate the cost. It also really helps with teamwork.

Egg Car reflection

the egg car had to be 6.5 cm wide, and had to be 16.5 cm long.

We made a bumper in the front, made by air and paper, the wheels were unstable, so it fell off during the test, but the egg was safe, we made a seatbelt, and a safety cell.

Newton’s first law was seen when the egg car hit the concrete block, and Newton’s third law was seen when the egg car was propelled backwards a little when it hit the concrete block.

everything exept for the wheels worked pretty smoothly, the wheels were very unstable.

I would choose thicker axels and a longer bumper.

I realized that a car is not easy to make and takes several tries to make ones that actually works, and you have to notice Newton’s laws to succeed( always pay attention to the wheels.)

Balloon Car

The balloon car was built using cardboard, wheel and axel, a balloon, and a straw. We used it it learn about Newton’s 3 laws of motion.

  • Newton’s first law says a force that is at rest will stay at rest until another force interferes with it. We see this law in action with the balloon car when we inflate the balloon and let it go, we see that the air is pushing the balloon car forward.
  • Newton’s second law states that “Motion=Force x Acceleration. We see this law in action with the balloon car when we put weights on the car and inflate the same amount of air and see how far it goes.
  • Newton’s third law states “every action has a equal but opposite reaction.” .

The weight expirement worked well because our balloon car always increased it’s speed at the very end.

It was a struggle when we had to build the car because the tape kept falling off and the straw was very bent so the balloon wouldn’t inflate. we found a stronger straw at the end and was successful with the next expirement.

The balloon is like a speedboat in the real world because they also need to blow from the back to move the boat

I see Newton’s 2nd law in real life when I had to push a shopping cart full of things, so I needed my sister to help me push it.

It is important to know these laws because it helps engineers or designers to be more logical.

Health Reflection

It is important to know about the changes of puberty because it will help you be prepared for it. I feel most confident about mood swings. I am concerned about growth spurts because I have not been growing lately. I only use the sources online that my parents approve. I want to improve on presenting my understanding.

Creative Writing Reflection

What we are doing

Writing a fictional story based on a theme that matters to me.

What are we learning

ThemeΒ One good friend is better than a group of fake ones.Character Development: main character: Juniper Knowles, Best friend: Heather, Bully: Britney, side characters: Annie , Britney’s friends. Plot: Western(the eastern one was too hard. SettingΒ : a school in Boston, Normal school, no fantasy.

Whats working

  • I enjoyed writing the angry Heather parts because even though Juniper was the main Character, Heather was my favorite.
  • I am proud of my character development, because I made Juniper the one who coward, say funny things, and Heather was the one who was more fierce.
  • I got the idea because my friend had a similar expirience and I wanted to rewrite it.
  • The Best Line from My Story: I looked less like a human and more like a grub that has been pried from the ground by a stick.

Area of growth

  • It was challenging to write the part of Heather going to Juniper’s house because I had no Idea what they were going to talk about.

Personal relevance

  • Creative writing can help you in real life because one day you might find yourself in a situation and you can always think of a soloution.

Critical Thinking

We designed a path for a marble to go through and figured out a key for Indi cars path. I learned that you might not even notice you are critical thinking , but you actually are.

It worked when we worked together to think about it, and followed instructions. It did not work when we tried to randomly put it into pieces because we felt like it.

Todays learning will help me understand why I have to use logic and not just randomly doing whatever I want.

The key for the direction of where the Indi car is going

Fiction Reading- Character Analaysis

What we are doing

Reading Heroes of Olympus series and determining important character traits

What are we learning

How to analyze character traits based on evidence( characters words, thoughts, and other reactions) .

Whats working

  • I learned that if the character trait changes overtime, it doesn’t weaken it, it makes the trait more interesting.
  • You decide a character trait is more important than the others when you have more evidence for it.
  • I learned that authors will give a lot of hints of a character trait if they think it is important, so it is not that hard finding one, really.

Area of growth

  • I think I could’ve improved on trying to leave out unimportant details so the paragraph won’t be too long. But overall, I think I did pretty good

Personal relevance

  • I am not similar to this character, AT ALL. I think I am way too talkative to be like my character.
  • My understanding of this character affected the way I see othere people in real life because now I believe even the darkest people can be changed by the power of friendship.
