Unit 3 Math Bake Sale Reflection🎄🍪

What did I do?🤔

I did math in Bake Sale and got unit rate and cost of each cookies, batch, etc. We also baked Christmas cookies to sell and selled it to other teacher and students. This project lasted for 4 days. In day 1 we chose what food we are going to make and got he amount of ingredients in both U.S system and Metric system. In day 2 we got the unit price and the cost per batch. In day 3, we got the serving and the sell price.

What did we learn?📚

We learn about rates. Unit Rate is the amount of 1 of the unit. Plus we learned about collaboration and how we could work together.

What worked?👩🏻‍💻

Collaborating with my partner worked out the best. We chose who will buy what and chose when to meet quite quickly and communication was more easier since we speaked in our 1rst language.

What did not work well?🙂‍↔️

Organizing who bought our cookies did not work well because in the last 20 min or so there were to much people crowded so we did not get to write everyone down

How is this relevant to me?🧐

This is relevant to me because I liked collaborating and making foods that I like with my friend.

Balloon Car 🚗

What did I do?🧐

I made a balloon car which moves by the air inside the balloon. It was fun to test out why does the car go slower and shorter if there was more weight into it. We also learned about Newton’s three laws and why does one balloon car go farther then the other.

What did I learn?🥸

Also I learned Newton’s 3 laws and learned that objects move by these 3 laws. Newton’s first law is law of inertia; if an object put force on another object then the object moves and if not it stays there forever. Newton’s second law is law of acceleration; Mass × Acceleration= Force. So for example, if the car is 3kg and goes 2m/s then the force is 3×2 so 6N. Lastly Newton’s third law is law of action and reaction; in a action there is always an equal and opposite reaction.

What worked?🎈

Guessing the distance it will go for every washer worked. For every 2 washers the distance shortening was simillar every time also me and my partner got first place on balloon car race because we caculated the wood we had to cut off accurately and added lot’s of air in the balloon in order to make it farther. Also finding out dependent, independent, and controlled variable worked out easilly for me.

What did not work?🤔

Everything worked as planed.

(+I can’t find the picture sorry)

Egg Car🚗

What did I do? 🧐 We made a car with paper, 1m of tape, and some plastic wheel to protect the egg from crashing in to bricks when we test rolling the car down with egg inside the rollercoaster. We made crumple zones and walls to block the egg car from crashing in. However there was some criteria we had to follow. First we should be able to see the egg at least partly (no covering the egg or big walls. Next we can not use other things apart from what teachers give us (paper, 1m of tape, and some plastic wheel, etc.)

What did I learn? 📚 I learned more about Newton’s first and third law in this experiment. The car bounced off the wall the car moved back and forward again because of Newton’s law but later it stopped and remained in rest (Newton’s first law).

What worked? 👩🏻‍🔬 Blocking the egg to go backwards and popping out did work and fitting the egg in the right size worked.

What did work? 🙅🏻‍♀️ Running the car with wheels did not work a little and sled down a little bit and also we were not able to protect the egg so I think we had to make the hole smaller so it can’t come out.

Personal Relevance🫢 There are part of vehicles that protect the person inside. For example there are seat belts and air bag in cars and there are knobs in buses.

Design Tech💻

Create a Personalized Product for your Client🧏🏻‍♀️

We first worked on Personalized products to give our client. I chose to give a cherry blossom earring to my mom. We used inscape to draw and print out and put them together. My design was complicated so it took me more time than others and also my computer did not work well so it did not finish quickly. next time I want to make it simpler so it won’t take much time. Plus it was challenging for me to put rings to connect the pieces since I had quite alot pieces on the earring I was designing😞. However the result was pretty good so I am proud of it!☺️

Create a Chess Piece♟️

Next we worked on chess piece. We worked as a group and our theme was “Fruits” I chose to make a pawn and a cherry. I was not sure how I would put them together but I noticed there’s a round part on pawn so I chose to use that ball as a cherry. Even though I wanted to put leaves on the cherry, but teachers told me it will probably fall off because it’s too delicate. We design the chess with Tinkercad and printed out with a 3D printer. My first pawn broke when I was taking off the protecting piece.😥 However my second piece broke but I was able to put them again with glue which turned out successful!😄

Creative Writing Reflection

What are we doing? Writing a fiction story about a boy revenging to his mean father and bully who was mean to him, his mother, Ethan, and Jenny.

What are we learning? Writing themes for example I had a theme “You reap what you sow” Also we learned how we could show our character changed in the end . My character changed bravilly and starts to act not think only. Writing a fiction story and learning interesting story line like ken sho ten ketsu. Lastly we learned settings, in which where the story is set. In my story “Revenge”, it’s mostly set in Main character, Benjamin’s school or home.

What’s working? I enjoyed writing my characters. “Revenge” was my first book as putting a boy as a main character is first-person perspective and also about first-person perspective of someone getting bullied so I think that was fun for me to write in different perspective than before. It was actually kind of hard for me because I’m not in high school yet or have siblings or been a boy who was getting bullied but I am proud of how I wrote my character even though it was a whole new story I tried. I got this idea from 5th grade art class. We were drawing about what we could fix in the future and I drew about bullying with dark calenders around her like a diary writing “I’ll revenge” and in 6th grade English class I suddenly wantd to write more in a first-person perspective of someone who is getting bullied. My favourite line of my story was “This boring world where those blessed people who only say hurtful things without looking inside.” and “This world of disgusting lookism” because Benjamin had a uncommon look so was always getting bullied wherever he goes and I also believe many people are obsessed of other people of other’s look so I use the word “world of lookisim”

Area’s of Growth It was hard for me to write about the worry the main character had about his siblings because I did not really had any siblings and also it was hard to choose their ages to make the mother young and siblings young.

Personal Relevance I believe I can use creative writing any time, for example if I get bored I could write or like if I have any chance to write someday it will be a great chance.

Science – Critical Thinking👩🏻‍🔬

What did I do?🤔

I played with Indi robot cars and built a miniature rollercoaster with Gravitrax. Using these we were using our critical thinking minds. We were finding out how we could success and solve puzzle for Indi which detects and move by the color. Also we examined how we could make a speedy rollercoaster with Gravitrax with our critical thinking. Using thise chance I think I learned how we could solve puzzle with our critical thinking.

What did I learn?📖

I learned how I would be assessed for critical thinking. Plus we learned how to use critical thinking to solve problems. Using this method (thinking), it will be easier to solve harder questions. In addition, the longer we use this method the easier we will able to solve harder question. Also this helps us solve the question in a right way and the probability the answer will get wrong decreases.

What worked?👍🏻

I believe I solved the puzzle we did critically. For Example, when a marble did not went through when we were using Gratitrax, me and my partner tried making the 2 stations closer and putting all the station higher so the power will be stronger so it will past through. In this lesson I think I learned how to use critical thinking. Using this I think it will be easier to solve problems.

What did not work?🙅🏻‍♀️

Something that not really worked out for me is moving and thinking fast about what I should do next. For Example, when we were playing with Indi robot cars when we got the color wrong, I was not able to notice it right away. After improving this I think it will be much better because I could do stuffs faster so I get to try out more. Plus improving this would let me suggest my ideas to the group. Even though it might be hard I believe it will be a good development I can try out!

Personal Relevance💭

This is connected to my life and I think it will give me a huge impact if I keep on working on it. Critical thinking is a skill where if you keep work on it you get to use it in everyday life. At first it is hard to even do critical thinking for few minutes. However, after you get over it, the complicated questions you were not able to solve will be able to be solved much easier. Critical thinking is helpful when you solve riddles or puzzles like we did using Gravitrax and Indi robot cars. I believe this would help me solve hard questions better, therefore I will be keep working on Critical thinking.

Fiction Reading – Character Analysis 💬

What are we doing? Reading Catching Fire and determining important character traits

What are we learning? How do analyze character traits (Character Actions, Thoughts, Dialogue, and Other Character’s Reactions)

What’s working? Finding out what trait does my character (Katniss) has.

Area’s of Growth Organizing and analyzing sentences in the correct order and I should focus on the main idea

Personal Relevance I could use character analysis later when I want to promote things like movies, book, etc.

L3 Olympic Unit Portfolio Reflection🏃🏻‍♀️‍➡️

Unit 1 Olympic Portfolio Reflection

  1. What did I work on?

  a. During the Campaign for the Olympics Unit, I worked on researching our host Olympic city and country by using the SAS databases. Plus, we worked on my speaking skills like speaking loudly and positive collaboration skills. I also tried to improve using persuasive sentences to convince the IOC to select my city/country for the 2032 Olympic Games in Taipei, China. I worked on creating PPT with 6 criterion slides with my partner and using SAS databases photos.

  1. What did I learn?

a. Global sporting events exist because it helps unite all countries increases economy in host countries

  1. What worked well?

Making the PPT (finding pictures, etc.) was something that worked well for me and the simplest part I thought.

  1. Personal Relevance

It will probably help me later when I need to present to the class since we learned where we could improve on.
