Badminton Unit Reflection

In this unit, we learned how to hit both backhand and forehand serve. And also backhand and forehand. We also played king of the court and had a lot of fun. I think I did pretty well on forehand and forehand serve. I think I can work on my backhand and backhand serve. I think badminton is fun, and I enjoy it a lot.

Unit 4 Dystopian Reflection

What did I learn about Dystopian Fiction?

I learned the seven characteristics of Dystopian Fiction. The first one is Social Control, this means pressuring people to conform . The second one is totalitarianism meaning the government has all the power. The third one is Conformity Diversity, meaning everybody acts the same, different are suspicious. Constant Surveillance, meaning someone is always watching you. Dehumanization, means Fewer or no human rights, important human experiences are forbidden. Control of Nature means advanced technology, most things are sythentic, nature is also unknown. Lastly, is Illusion of Utopia, this means either the reader thinks the society is perfect or the character believes they are living in a perfect society. From reading the book The Giver, I learned many common things are forbidden in Jonas’s society. For example, love, warmth, warfare, color. All of these things are forbidden.

How does Dystopian Fiction invite me to thank about real life?

Dystopian Fiction makes me really grateful that the real world didn’t choose to forbid lots of things like Jonas’s society. In Jonas’s society, the governments decided to not give color to the people that lived there just because of racism. The governments didn’t want people to be ashamed of their flesh. And just because of this, no one saw any color but black and white in that society. They forbid love because they think love is way to meaningless, and there is not point of using to world love. I want to thank the real world for giving us love, warmth, color and lots more.

Did I enjoy the book The Giver?

I enjoyed the book The Giver. I like it because of how to works like Illusion of Utopia. From the very start of the book, me as a reader thinks its really messes up. How you must wear ribbons as a girl and get a bicycle at the age of nine. Everybody is the same, and it is very different from the real world. But w=after we as a class discussed about the book, I realized that they forbid things for a certain reason. For example, they forbid snow because this could be harder for transportations and growing crops. On the other hand Jonas( the main character of the book) thinks his society is perfect at the start of the book. But when he started training for his job, the Reciever, where he recieves memories from the giver, he finds out there are a lot of things in the real world that they didn’t have in his society. He starts to think his society is messed up.

How have I improved my ability to write academic paragraph?

We practiced writing academic paragraphs every time we do our homework for Language Art. I think I got better at writing academic paragraphs. I git quicker writing them and got higher grades for our academic paragraphs.

How am I better now interacting with others in Literature Discussions?

I used to not know how to interact with others in a Literature Discussion. But now I am able to make notes for preparing for these kinds of discussions, I also know how to validate someone and challenge someone.

Unit 1 Portfolio Reflection

I think the most important safety behaviour is make sure things like your age and gender is only known by your family and friends. Because these count as privacy, and some people on internet can try to lie to you because if your age. Maybe because your young, they like your easy to lie to and they could force you to do inappropriate things.

Five people that I trust is my parents, my sibling, my friends, my teachers, and my dog.

I think that social media can impact teens both good and bad. The goof thing about social media is there could be more resources and more opinions. It can be good for studying. But in the other hand, the bad thing about it is people could get addicted to it. Some teens would scroll all night long without knowing.

I think three strategies I can use is to set timer of the amount of time I spend on my technology. Another strategy could be spending more time outside or studying. That could automatically lessen the time I spend on tech. The last strategy I could use could be is keeping distance from my tech so I wouldn’t want to get it out.

I learned about the pros and cons about social media.

Volleyball Unit Reflection

This unit, we learned how to play volleyball. We learned bumping, setting, and underhand serve. There was also a lot of collaboration. We also played games and learned the rules of a volleyball game. I think I worked well on bumping the ball and underhand serve. I think I can work more on setting. I barely use setting because I am not really confident about using setting an a game.

Unit 2 Otzi Unit Portfolio Reflection

  1. What did I work on?
  2. i.During this unit, ‘Why should we care about the past?’, I worked on
  1. Making observations, inferences and wonderings
  1. Using photos and articles as evidence
  1. Writing a CER paragraph
  1. Asking and answering open and closed questions
  1. Taking part in the Otzi Mock Trial, my role was Court Reporter
  1. What did I learn? Why should we care about the past?
  1. We should care about the past because:

-It can tell us how Neolithic people lived

-it tells us they were resourceful for hunting for food, creating clothes, tools, and medicine from nature.

– we know they grew crops and had similarities with us –> conflicts

                                                                                                                   –> disease

-it also tells us they were very resourceful and innovative.

We learned:

-To write a C.E.R paragraph

-Take part in a mock trial

-Analyze images and articles.

– Collect evidence

– complete many drafts

– opening and close statements

– list resources

– control the court with cross examination

– making open and closed questions

– expert witness knowledge

  1. What worked well?
  1. I am proud of the following work: making the newspaper, taking photos in the mock trial, and interviewing the expert witnesses.
  1. I am proud of the work above because I made a 2 page newspaper which is the maximum pages for the newspaper. I took photos of every expert witness and lawyers. I also worked with my team mates. I prepared very well with open and closed questions for the expert witnesses.
  1. What did not work well?
  1. I found some of this work challenging: Collecting evidence for our C.E.R, making open and closed questions, and making open and closed statements.
  1. I found the work above challenging because we had limited articles and videos to watch to find evidence. So, I didn’t get the exact evidence I wanted to prove my point. As a court reporter, I needed to prepare for an interview, we needed to ask at least 5 questions including open and closed questions. It was hard to think of questions to help the expert witness prove their point and predict what they might way with open and closed statements.
  1. Personal Relevance
  1. Collaboration and communications skills are important in my future because there will be a lot of opportunities to collaborate with a team. And collaboration and communication skills will be very important when we need to get things done quickly.
  1. This is a photo of my work about my newspaper and photos I took in the mock trial.

Math Bake Sale Project

What did I do?

We did a math project that is connected with rates and unit rates. We did a bake sale where we planned for 4 days and baked it and sold it.

What did I learn?

I learned how to use things like unit rate and rate in real life. I also learned what is markup price and markup percentage.

What worked?

we sold everything and were able to get a final prfit that isn’t lower than our cast of making it.

What did not work?

It was hard to make our dessert and we failed to make a lot of them.

Personal Relevance

In this unit, I not only learned how to use unit rates and rates. I also learned how to bake a new things and how hard it is to sell something. It feels like I just felt what it feels like to become a person who sells food.

Soccer Reflection

what did I learn? I learned more about soccer and different kicks and collaborating with others. We also learned about ball control and dribbling.

What helped? My teammates and my partner sometimes helped me with what I was struggling with. The teacher also reviewed all the things we learned every time we started class.

What is something I are proud of? I can dribble better. I also collaborated woth my teammates pretty well when we were playing games.

What is something I can work on? I think I can work on scoring goals and using more strength. Because when I try to score, I don’t use enough strength that the goaly could easily block it.

Egg Car Reflection

What did I do?

We made a Egg car in two classes that can go down a ramp. Our goal is to protect the egg thats inside the car and slide down the ramp without cracking.

What did I learn?

Newton’s first law of motion is seen in the egg car experiment when it sled down, the egg wants to keep on moving, making it bounce of the brick. From here, we can see Newton’s third law of motion( every action has an equal but opposite reaction). When the egg car bounces of the brick, it create an equal but opposite reaction.

What worked?

We were able to make an egg car that protected the egg from cracking. It was also stable enough that it didn’t break or fly out of the ramp after crashing on the brick.

What did not work?

Probably something tripped the wheel, making it tilt and slide down the ramp. Making it disqualified.

Personal Relevance

After the experiment I know more about how designers keep the passenger safe from car crashes. Not only the seat belt and air bag. The from of the car has to have a soft but long crumple zone that could create less force. The smaller the car is could also help too.

Design Tech

In design tech, we did three units, including: Graphic design, 3D modeling, and robotics.

This is the slides we used for our first unit, graphic design. We had to choose from making a coaster, fridge magnet, keychain, and earring. I made a keychain. And then we chose our client and described what kind of personality he or she is. After that, we started to find ideas online. Then, we used an app called Inkscape to make the design, then print it out with plywood. Lastly, we colored it and decorated it. I made a flower keychain.

This is our second unit, 3D modeling unit. We used an app called tinkercad to make it. We started the unit by practicing modeling with the tutorials in the app. Then, we were put into groups. We chose a theme, our team chose zodiac. Everybody had a role. I did queen and libra. Then we printed it out and cut out the parts that we didn’t needed.

Our last unit was Robotics. We built robots using the website, Lego Spike Education. We competed by using the robots to fight and race whos robot ran that fastest.
