SLC TTG goals

A TTG I would like to work on this semester is the Critical Thinking section, because I think it is crucial to our creativity and understanding of the world we live in.

In math and science, I will use the knowledge we learn and apply it to real-life examples, because I bet everything we learnt has some use in the real world.

In language arts and social studies, I will try to connect with the topics and events we learn and tie them back to my personal life. Also, I will think deeply about what caused the outcome and how to fix the problems.

In the encore, I would try out all the things we learn in real life. For example, I would like to try the sports I learn in PE, and also practice healthy habits, eating in daily life, and connecting back to health.

Math Unit 3 Reflection

U- I understand how to solve percentage problems, apply them to real life, and what taxes, tips and interest mean. For example, we have to add the tax percentage to 100% and multiply it by the original price to get the price after tax.

N- New information that I learnt this unit was the difference between compound interest and simple interest, where compound means to add a percentage based on the last calculation, and simple interest means that we add the same percentage every time.

I- I think what was interesting to me during the unit was the summative project, because we could choose our own topic to work on and what we were interested in.

T- A thing that was tricky for me was that during the summative, there are a lot of steps required and needed to get the final answer, and sometimes if a calculation is wrong, it can have a chain reaction and affect other calculations later on.

Me as a collaborator

I would give myself a meeting as a collaborator because I think I do my work on time and can produce work that meets standards. I think someone else would describe my collaboration in class: they would say I am someone who occasionally shares ideas and probably listens to others most of the time. To improve, I would like to have more deep thinking, enabling me to share more of my ideas and contibuting more to the group.

Language Arts Unit 2 Summative

I think I did relatively better than on the formative, and I improved after getting feedback on it. I am proud of learning how to write well-structured CERs about a story and of getting good scores on them. A challenge for me is that I think it takes me too long to produce good writing, which I want to improve. Using the feedback I got from the formative, I tried to implement it in my practices using the Flint bot. If I could do it again, I would try to push myself to write more, add more detail, and write faster. My advice for the future would be to manage my time better when I study, take in what others do well in my class, and put that into practice. My future goal is to have this same consistency on my grades and performance.

Social Studies Unit 2: Visual Presentation

Project Video.mp4

Our task was to create a visual presentation based on the technology of our choice. I chose to create an animation that demonstrates how space flight positively impacts the world by depicting the harmful events that could occur without it.

I think the animation and the video were decent overall, and it was pretty funny.

I think I need to manage my time a bit more wisely when I create a project like this next time, because I didn’t ultimately finish all the parts as planned.

Social Studies Unit 2: Essay

I first researched the topic I chose, spaceflight, by picking articles online and annotating them. From this information, I picked out a few that could be useful as evidence when I write. After researching, we followed a structure to write the essay and started writing.

I think I did well in choosing my evidence for the essay and in incorporating it into my reasoning sections.

I think I still need to vary my sentence starters and style more in my writing, as I am overusing certain sentence structures that can bore readers.

DT Unit 2 RC cars Reflection

In this unit, I built a working RC car and designed its rear wing using the Onshape website. I also learnt some simple tools on Onshape, and it made me step up from TinkerCAD. A problem I had was since Onshape is relatively new to me, I had to watch lots of videos and search info online to learn how to do things.

DT Unit 1 Clock project reflection

https://saschina-my.sharepoint.com/my?id=%2Fpersonal%2Fheyi01px2031%5Fsaschina%5Forg%2FDocuments%2FHeyi%2ELiang%2E7B1%2EClock%2EV1%2Epdf&parent=%2Fpersonal%2Fheyi01px2031%5Fsaschina%5Forg%2FDocuments

In this project, we had to design a clock based on our client’s preferences. I first went online to find some samples and got inspiration. I then defined what “success” in this project means, and started designing my clock based on my client’s needs. I then used Inkscape to create my clock, laser-cut it, and spray-painted it. At last, I evaluated the situation and compared my final product with others. I think a challenge I had was spray-painting the clock, because some of the paint got out of the desired areas.

Math Unit 2 Reflection

U- I understand how to calculate the scale factor from drawings, and I have mastered the differences between scale and scale factor. I also understand how to draw a scaled copy from an original figure.

N- The term “Scale Factor” was new to me, and I’ve never encountered this term in mathematics before. It was also new to me that the area of a scaled copy is the scale factor squared, and then multiplied by the og figure.

I think what was interesting was applying the things we learned to real-life examples. For example, in the summative, there was a question that asked for the area of the Eiffel Tower based on the scale. This makes it extra interesting for us because it is not just tedious 2D shapes that hold no meaning.

T- I think a thing that was tricky for me was the question that asked me to write an equation based on the relationship in the summative. I got the variables messed up and ended up subbing out all of the variables with real numbers. Another challenge I had was the L4 question, because I didn’t have enough time to carefully answer the questions.

PE Soccer reflection

The soccer unit helped me learn how to play the sport with modified rules, and also helped me collaborate better with my classmates. For example, since the goals were made smaller, it is harder to score. Therefore, more passing and possession are needed to get a good angle to shoot the ball. The unit also helped me improve my dribbling skills, since there is a small amount of space to keep possession of the ball.
