In this unit I improved on how to serve and return ball in badminton, by learning how to back hand serve. We also learned how to play doubles, singles, and serving in the right way. I really enjoyed playing doubles with my friends and working together. A goal that I would set for myself is returning the ball better. I also want to improve by not using stop sign hits. I effectively collaborated with my partner, and gave constructive feedback to help us improve.

How your artwork expresses your identity (in at least two ways)
My sketchbook cover involves a lot of elements that I consider representing me. For example, the cookie in the corner that is larger in scale compared to the others represent me as I really enjoy baking and making different things as a hobby and I feel like it is a big part of my identity. Another example is the Taipei stamp in the middle as I feel like my culture and my nationality is part of the most important and a really centered element about myself.
The design strategies you incorporated into the planning and creation of sketchbook cover
I really liked the idea of a scrap art because I feel like it can really help combine all the things that represents me into one piece of art. I also used some yarn and buttons to add different textures and making my cover more interesting and fun.
How you intended the audience to engage in the layout of the composition (use art vocabulary.)
The cover is arranged in a way with lots of movement involved. The flow of the cover is from the bigger elements to the smaller ones, as you can find your eyes following from the cookie in the corner and slowly make your way to the center and notice different elements on the way. The buttons and twine also add a texture and contrast to the cover as it stands out more than the other. I also used overlapping to increase the depth and make sure my piece is balanced.
Describe your story and what real-life situation it modeled?
This story modeled the cooling rate of the cookie from a cookie company. The story is about the cooling rate of the cookie in different situations.
What did this project help you understand better about piecewise functions?
it helped me understand how to relate piecewise functions to real life situations and have a deeper understanding of what a piecewise function actually is.
What part of your project are you most proud of? Why?
I am proud of how we worked together to complete the project and thought of a creative story to show our learning.
What was the hardest part of creating your piecewise function?
I think the hardest part of doing this project was making sure our story is consistent. For example, the cookie should be cooling at a constant rate and not sometimes faster and sometimes slower. It was also hard to think of a story that includes all the criteria we should be demonstrating.
If you could revise one part of this project, what would you improve and how?
If I could revise one part of this project, I would add more detail to the story to make it more fun. I also want to manage my time better so I wouldn’t have to be rushing at the end to complete it. I could do that by communicating with my partner more.

In this unit, we learned about how to make a relationship healthy and safe for each other. At the end of the unit, we made a presentation analyzing the relationship between Bella and Edward from Twilight, using examples from the show to support. The purpose of the project is to identify the key components of a healthy and unhealthy relationship. For example, setting boundaries and the importance of consent, giving examples from the show.
The most important things I learned is about consent, setting boundaries, and identifying the difference between gender and sex. I learned that consent is essential for a healthy relationship because if you didn’t ask, you would never know if they are comfortable in the situation. Setting boundaries is similar to consent but it can make relationships stronger and can help you understand your partner better. It is important to communicate about your own boundaries in order to have a safe and welcoming environment. I also learned that gender and sex have major differences, sex refers to biological attributes like chromosomes, anatomy, and hormones, while gender can be more of how you express yourself, and who you think you truly are.

I chose this artifact because it clearly explains the amount of times and the time I spoken in the socratic seminar. This allows me to know what I need to improve on and what I am already good at. For example, I need to improve on managing my time and letting others speak as my time spoken was 30 seconds over the average time. I did well on the number of times spoken as I spoke for 4 times and the average was also 4. This shows that I am good at managing the amount of times I speak but can improve on getting too deep into my points and also bring others into the conversation.
During swimming unit, we learned about water polo and the different techniques involving cooperation and floating on the water with my head up.I started off never playing water polo before. I was struggling to float in the water with my head up and floating in the darker areas of the pool. I improved by being engaged in class and trying my best while also encouraging my peers.
During the outdoor invasion game unit, we learned about soccer and things like how to to correctly pass a ball and work with our teammates to score goals. I started off not confident about my soccer skills and not that active in class. I improved by being more active in class and trying my best even though I’m not that good at it.
I used to think mental health problems were dangerous and people with mental health diseases can hurt others by performing dangerous actions. I thought mental health was related to brain health and is related to the way you act and the actions you take. I thought if your mental health condition was not stable, you would act differently and start to lose center of your emotions.
But now I think even though I was right about mental health being a really important factor of your health, I didn’t have the right direction of what mental health diseases really were. I realized that most mental health diseases on social media are stigmatized and isn’t really what the people that are suffering with this disease are actually going through. I learned that it is important to learn about things before assuming what someone is going through is actually dangerous. My perspectives has shifted from being unaware of the reality of mental health conditions and assuming they had really negative impacts towards society, to knowing more about it by making a presentation about a specific type of mental health disease, and using less stigmatized perspectives to view it. Something that surprised me most is the lack of understanding a lot of people have towards mental health issues and the stigma that happens around us.
I am proud that I can cooperate well with others.
My biggest challenge in class is staying focused in class, getting consistent 3’s for 3 for 3.
I am prepared for class and I bring all my materials. I want to grow in being more engaged in class. Like raising my hand more, putting more ideas on the table during group discussions.
This year in Science, I plan on improving my ability to be more engaged and active in class. I learned from my previous years that I am not a student that really raises their hands and participate by asking questions and answering questions in class. In the future, I will try to raise my hand at least once a time in each class, and also try to ask more questions in other classes too.
Something I liked was that we get to choose what we want to do, and had a lot of flexibility. For example I chose a pixelated cat. Something I wish was different is getting more explanation about the project so it is more clear to us of the expectations and what we are required to accomplish.
