Unit 2 Otzi Unit Portfolio Reflection

  1. What did I work on?
  1. During this unit, ‘Why should we care about the past?’, I worked on
  1. Making observations, inferences and wonderings
  1. Using photos and articles as evidence
  1. Writing a CER paragraph
  1. Asking and answering open and closed questions
  1. Taking part in the Otzi Mock Trial, my role was court reporter
  1. What did I learn? Why should we care about the past?
  1. We should care about the past because it helps us find out how people lived in the past, history repeats itself, and we can find out about the artifacts (tools, clothing, medical supplies, and utility belt)
  1. What worked well?
  1. I am proud of the following work taking photos of everyone during the Mock trail, and creating a newspaper for the others to read
  1. I am proud of the work above because I did well on taking photos of everyone clearly during the trial and creating a newspaper that includes every evidence, I collected by asking the expert witnesses.
  1. What did not work well?
  1. I found some of this work challenging, I think what was challenging is doing the open and closed questions organizer.
  1. I found the work above challenging because it took a long time for me to think of the questions and learn the important information by asking the expert witnesses the questions.
  1. Personal Relevance
  1. Collaboration and communications skills are important in my future because it is important for me to know how to persuade others of my opinion well and write an article after the argument.

L4 swimming reflection

What did I learn?

I learned how to use a snorkel properly and improve my swimming skills properly. In freestyle, I learned to kick harder and try better when I am swimming.

What can I improve?

Since I am in the middle group, I think I will try my best there.

Balloon car reflection

what did I do?

I built a balloon car using straws, wheels, and papers to try to make it move in a certain amount of distance or weight

What did I learn?

Newtons 1st law says that if an object is in motion, then it stays in motion, if an object is at rest, then it stays at unless acted by another force, in the balloon car the air in the balloon is the other force that pushes the balloon. Newton’s second law says force equals mass times acceleration, we see this in the balloon car because the czr is being pushed by the air in the balloon.

What worked?

The ballon car can move with the weights but not really far. It worked when there is a lot of air in the balloon, but can’t really work with a little bit of air. It worked really well with the weights because it can still move with six weights and the distance was ok

What did not work?

the ballon car moves really slowly and uses the air really fast. This is not good for us because that the balloon car needed to move fast, if the balloon car waste air, then we need to put in more air to make it move like others which the balloon might pop.

Personal Relevance

I see Newton’s third law in real life because as stated, every action has an equal and opposite reaction, in the real life if you are driving a car and you crashed into something, then the car is going to push back.

Egg Car Reflection

What did I do?

I tried to make a egg car that can protect the egg after going down a long slope and crashing into a wall. We used axles, wheels, paper, and masking tape to create our egg car.

What did I learn?

According to newton’s 1st law, ” If a object is in motion then it is in motion, if an object is at rest it stays at rest, unless acted by another force.” We see it in the egg car when it moved down the slope. According to newton’s 3rd law, “every action have an equal and opposite reaction.” We see it when the egg car crashed in to the wall but the egg sort of kept going.

What worked?

The egg car worked well because our egg car was made with less materials than usual and the egg fit perfectly in the place it should be. We built it a little bit too light, so it went too fast and the egg cracked. We had to change it a little bit because of the fast speed of the car.

What did not work

The egg cracked, so it did not went well, I would change the egg car by making it heavier and have more protection in the front because the more mass of a object, the slower it would move.

Personal relevance

It is really important to know newton’s laws because it can help us improve to safety systems. For example, in newton’s 3rd law, we could add a seatbelt to prevent the egg from moving forward.

PE NET GAMES ( Volleyball )

What steps did I follow to perform a legal underhand serve?

  1. throw the ball up to a position that is comfortable for you to hit the ball
  2. hit the ball with your wrist

which part did I do best in the underhand serve?

The part I did the best is trying to serve the ball in the court and use a ideal force to hit the ball

What was challenging about serving?

Something challenging was trying to hit the soft ball with a accurate force.

GRAVITRAX & INDI ROBOT

( CRITICAL THINKING )

I played with indi robot cars and gravitrax to strengthen my critical thinking skills. In gravitrax, I learned how to connect the pieces together and make the metal ball move in the directions that I want it to move in, this is related to critical thinking because I need to think critically to make the ball move ideally. In the indi robot cars, I learned how to make the robot car move in different directions by putting different colors on the ground, this is related to critical thinking because I think critically by understanding which color is which.

Critical thinking is the process that include analyzing a problem or question carefully and make a answer, choice, or judgement that is logical for most of people.

I thought critically when I problem solved to make indi the robot car to move as it was stated in the questions, this is related to critical thinking because I needed to memorize the colors and put them together correctly. In the gravitrax game, I problem solved the problem when the marble was stuck inside the tunnel.

Striking and Fielding Reflection

In this Semester, I learned how to play big base, kick ball, and hitting the ball with a bat. I know how to properly play the games above. In big base i learned how to kick the ball properly without getting caught, run fast within the bases, and trying to catch the ball when the other team is kicking.

NONFICTION WRITING REFLECTION-PARAGRAPH STRUCTURE

What are we learning?

Academic paragraph about character analysis.

What are we learning?

paragraph structure;

  • topic sentence
  • transitions
  • conclusion

What’s working?

My topic sentence is generally how I wrote it in the unit 1 test, my supportive sentences are really specific and included the main idea of the paragraph, I used the transition properly when needed.

Areas for growth;

Try to use good transitions for each supporting sentence

Fiction Reading – Character Analysis

what are we doing?

Reading ( The 57 Bus ) and determining important character traits.

What are we learning?

How to analyze character traits based on evidence ( Character’s Actions, Words, Thoughts, and Other Character’s Reactions )

What’s working?

Types of evidences that helps determine important character traits are like the evidences that appear most of the times and also effect the relationships or friendship that effects the character over time.

Areas for growth;

Try to find evidences that is more complex for the character or a more complex traits that are also important for the character.

Personal relevance;

I am not really creative, so I want to write something about creativity.
