Dystopian Fiction Reflection

What did I learn about dystopian fiction?

I learned that dystopian fiction is to help us think about our world and compare it to the story’s world.

How does dystopian fiction encourage me to think about real life?

It helps me think about real life because even though we think about how messed up things in the Giver is, we still actually do these things in real life like lethal injections, empty apologies, and thank you’s even though they don’t men it.

I enjoyed the Giver because Lois Lowry builds a lot of suspence during the book. I didn’t like the ending because it keeps making me guess what happened in the end.

My ability to write a academic paragraph improved because during the commonlit assignment improved because now during the academic paragraph, I write a conclusion.

I became better at literature discussions because I use evidence when I’m in a discussion.

Volleyball Reflection

I learned how to do a legal underhand serve. I also learned how to do a bump. We used the skills we learned to play a game of volleyball.I enjoyed playing volleyball because it is very fun. I also enjoyed playing volleyball have never played volleyball before.

Ötzi Unit 2 Portfolio Reflection

  1. What did I work on?
    1. During this unit, ‘Why should we care about the past?’, I worked on
      1. Making observations, inferences and wonderings
      2. Using photos and articles as evidence
      3. Writing a CER paragraph
      4. Asking and answering open and closed questions
      5. Taking part in the Ötzi Mock Trial, my role was the prosecutor.
  1. What did I learn? Why should we care about the past?
    1. We should care about the past because it helps us find out about the people in the past and what mistakes they made and how we could prevent them in the future.
  1. What worked well?
    1. I am proud of the following works sketch notes, and my jury observation checklist
    2. I am proud of the work above because I made the sketch notes really neat and added color. I am proud of my jury observation checklist because the notes were also very neat.
  1. What did not work well?
    1. I found some of this work challenging including the CER paragraph, and the open and closed questions.
    2. I found the work above challenging because when it was the class teaching us how to do the CER paragraph, I was sick and couldn’t come to school so when we wrote the CER paragraph, I really struggled. For the open and closed questions, I could only think of closed questions even though I was supposed to have more open questions than closed questions.
  1. Personal Relevance
    1. Collaboration and communications skills are important in my future because everything and every job includes working together and it is a very important life skill.
  1. This is a photo of my work about the CER paragraph.

Soccer Reflection

I learned how to work with my teammates and dribble.

My teammates all passed the ball to me to let me have a chance to score.

I am proud of not screaming when someone slide tackled me.

I could try and bring knee pads to not let the slide tackles hurt that much.

Egg Car

What did I do?

We built a egg car that helped us explain Newtons first and third law.

What did I learn?

Newtons first law was “seen” when we let it roll down the ramp and this gave the car a push. Also when it hit the concrete wall, it was stopped by a external force. Newton’s third law was seen when the car hit the concrete wall and sort of bounced back a little.

What worked?

The car worked because the egg didn’t break. Also we bult a crumble zone that kept the egg safe.

What did not work?

The part that didn’t work was when we hit the wall, the car flipped. Another part that did’ work was when we tried to make the car go slower by makingit heavier but the car was too wide.

Personal Relevance

I know that we need a crumble zone to keep the car safe because we need to absorb the impact.I also know that we need a seatbelt to keep the egg in.

Balloon Car

What did I do?

The balloon car was a challenge that we strapped a balloon to a car to find out more about Newtons three laws of motion. We collected data from how far the car went and we added more weight each time. We used a balloon, wheel and axle, and cardboard.

What did I learn?

The third law of motion was to every action, there’s and equal but opposite reaction and because the balloon was blowing backwards, this made the car go forward. Newton’s second law was to accelerate a object with more mass, you must use more force, and by adding more weights, the car went less distance. Newtons first law is, an object will stay moving unless acted on another force. And this happened when the balloon car stopped moving.

What worked?

The part that went well was when I collaborated with Nathen to build the balloon car. Another thing that worked we designed the car. This is connected to Newton’s third law because the balloon made the car go forward.

What did not work?

Our data didn’t work because the first time when we tried to test the car with no weight, our balloon got stuck on the wheel so we our car didn’t do very far. The one without the weight should have gone the farthest because it had less mass which it didn’t collaborate very well with Newton’s second law. Another thing that didn’t work was when we put the weight on one side because then, the car would veer to one side.

Personal relevance

The balloon car is connected to the real world because we are doing this experiment based on Newton’s law. It is connected to the real world also because nearly all our data turned out to be connected to the Newton’s laws.

Health Puberty Unit

It is important to understand the changes in puberty because you can feel some strong feelings like depression and embarrassment. Understanding Puberty can help you get though these hard times.

I feel most confident about the part where we have mood swings because I can use some techniques to calm myself down.

I feel most concerned about.wet dreams because its very hard to believe that you didn’t pee your bed and had a wet dream.

When looking online, I an ensure that a information is appropriate by understanding my limits of what I can see and what isn’t for me. I can also make sure that my information is credible if I go on a populer puberty site and not AI or some suspicious websites.

I want to improve on changing my aspect that everyone goes though puberty so I don’t have to worry as much.

Creative Writing Reflection

What are we doing:

Writing a fictional story based on a theme that matters to me.

What are we learning:

Theme (my purpose for writing this story, my message to readers) Character Development (creating believable characters with positive & negative traits) Plot (the sequence of events in my story; Western and Eastern approaches to storytelling) Setting (the world that I create for my story)

What’s working:

I enjoyed writing the story because and planning the part where Sam’s friend Jack dies, because it shows a lot of emotion.

Areas for growth:

I am planning on adding more detail to the setting because I didn’t show a lot of description of the setting. Another thing I could add is more detail about the final battle to add more tension.

Personal relevence:

I enjoy writing creative writing more than anything else, so if I were a auther, I would choose creative writing to write about.

Swimming Unit Reflection

I enjoyed the part where we did the snorkeling because I had never done snorkeling before. I learned how to do a buddy check and check and see of they put their mask on properly by tugging on their mouth piece and tugging their eye mask. We did some drills, big stride, and diving under the water.
