PE badminton reflection

What did you learn?

I learned how to do a legal underhand serve and how to do an over headshot to bring my opponent to the back of the court. I also learned the rules about how to serve properly. For instance, I learned that you had to get the shuttle behind a certain line

What did I improve on?

I improved on my serve. Originnally, I couldn’t serve past the line and only knew how to serve with my backhand. Now, I can serve with my forehand and can make a legal serve most of the time

What could you improve on next time?

I could improve on continueing to rally after the serve because right now I can only hold the rally for a few shots and I want to be able to play for long periods of time

Dystopian fiction The Giver

What did I do?

I learned about dystopian by writing academic paragraphs related to the text

What did I learn?

  • Building vocabulary
  • Writing academic paragraphs
  • Using transition words
  • Collaborative discussions

What worked?

I was able to have good collaborative discussions and could talk for a long time about the similarities, differences, benefits, and disadvantages of our topic to the real world. This is because I read through the book and wrote down a lot for our discussion notes.

What didn’t work?

What didn’t work was that my academic paragraphs didn’t have good reasoning and I didn’t have good transitions. I also only had a few examples

Personal relevance

I learned many vocabulary words and I learned how to write a good academic paragraph.

Rollercoaster L4 lab and model

1205.mov

We wrote a lab report about the relationship between the starting height and the success rate of a roller coaster. We used foam tubes and masking tape to build a rollercoaster for our marble. At a high starting height, the success rate was 60%. At the medium height, the success rate was 40%. At the low height, the success rate was 0%. Finnally, we wrote a CER paragraph based on the data we collected.

Soccer reflection

What did you do?

What I did was that I played small matches against other people and did some drills to practice dribbling, passing, and shooting

What did you learn?

I learned how to dribble the ball and shoot it into the goal. I also learned how to pass accurately to my partner without the ball flying in a random direction

What worked well

What worked well was that I could dribble well and I am good at passing.

What didn’t work?

What didn’t really work was that I am not really good at shooting and I don’t have much power in my kick.

Math bake sale reflection

What did we do?

Our assignment was to bake a certain food with over 7 ingredients. My team made chocolate lava cakes because they were easy to make and tasted good. We first went onto epermarket to find the unit price of each ingredient. Then, we added them together to get the batch price. After that, we divided by the amount our recipie makes. Finally, we calculated our markup to find the final sell price.

What did we learn?

We learned about rates and percents in this project. We used double number lines to find our markup percent and cost. We also calculated the cost of each ingredient by first finding how many grams we need, finding the cost of one gram, then multiplying to find the cost of the ingredient in our recipie.

What Worked?

What worked was that we were able to successfully bake our cakes. On our first try, it worked well, but it was too bitter and looked weird. We fixed this by changing the amount and type of dark chocolate and melting the butter and chocolate more thourouly, so in the end, it worked out well

What didn’t work?

What didn’t work was that we were rushed in making the poster and the cakes. We turned in our posters late and we had to stay up late to finish making the cakes. In the end though, we were able to bake the cakes well and our poster turned out okay

Personal relevance

I learned baking skills in this project and it was helpful because baking and cooking are two very important life skills. I think that I have the potential to be a baker and This is a good starting point. In this project, I have learned a very tasty dish and I will definetly bake it again soon, just for my family.

Unit II- Ötzi Unit Reflection

What did I work on?

We wrote a CER paragraph about whether or not Ötzi the Iceman was murdered or not. We also had a mock trial based on whether he was murdered or not. In the trial, I was an expert witness, and my job was to answer open and closed questions. We made a slideshow based on possible answers to possible questions from the lawyers.

What did I learn?

I learned about Ötzi’s life and death and how prehistoric people lived. I also learned about why we should care about the past. We should care about the past because we can learn about the mistakes that people made in the past so that we wouldn’t make that mistake ourselves.

What worked?

Something that worked was that during the mock trial, my partner and I were able to give very detailed answers to the lawyers’ questions. This is because during preparation, we did a lot of research and practice. The kids in the Red trial also helped us and gave us feedback and information

What didn’t work?

Something that didn’t work was that at the end, just before the trial, my open and closed questions worksheet was not very good and I gave short answers in the worksheet. I think this is because I was a little lazy and not thinking deeply. My sample questions also weren’t very good and they were too broad.

Personal relevance

During the trial preparation, we learned collaboration and communication skills. These are important for my future because I will need to do a lot more large projects which involve questions. I also learned about open and closed questions which will be useful when asking questions to people.

Swimming reflection

What did you learn?

What I learned was how to use snorkelling hand signals underwater. I already know how to snorkel but I learned how to do a giant stride entry and beach entry. I also learned how to safely go into and out of the water.

What did you do well?

I already know how to snorkel so I can quickly put on a mask and I am used to the mask on my face so I can prepare for snorkeling quickly. I also learned how to use hand signals quickly because I can memorize quickly

What didn’t work?

I’m not that good at swimming in the first place so I can’t swim very fast and I usually forget to do a partner check which is where you check if your snorkel is stable so my mask floods very often

Egg car challenge

What did I do?

We built a car to hold an egg so that the egg wouldn’t fall out the car.

What did I learn?

Newton’s first law could be seen because we had to build a seatbelt to stop the egg from flying out of the car and cracking. Newton’s third law could be seen because when the car hit the block at the end, the block hits back with the same amount of force. We had to build a crumple zone to balance out the force.

What worked?

What worked was that our car worked and the egg didn’t crack. We accidentally slowed down the car which decreased the force that the car applied to the block so the egg didn’t crack

What didn’t work?

What didn’t work was that during testing, the car kept flipping and breaking. It was hard to solve this problem but at the end, we took off the rubber on the wheels and it worked perfectly

Personal relevance

It’s important to know about how cars protect passengers because this way we can know about why it’s important to buckle a seatbelt. Before I thought it was just an annoying rule but now I know it’s important

Balloon car challenge

What did I do?

We built balloon cars with a styrofoam base, straws, axles, wheels, and a balloon. We used the balloon cars to learn about Newton’s three laws. It was fun to build the balloon cars and we got to race them as well.

What did I learn?

Newton’s first law states that an object in motion tends to stay in motion and an object in motion tends to stay in motion unless acted on by an unbalanced force. This applies to balloon cars because they will keep moving until friction acts on it. Newton’s 2nd law states that the more mass on an object, the more force needed to accelerate it. This applies to balloon cars because the more weight on the car, the slower it is. Newton’s 3rd law states that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. This applies to balloon cars because when the balloon lets out air, it moves forwards.

What worked?

Building the balloon car went well because we learned how to build them and the instructions were simple. We first had to take the base and glue on two straws. Then, we had to put in the axle and attach the wheels. Finally, we had to put on another straw and attach the balloon to it with a rubber band.

What didn’t work?

I struggled with making the balloon car fast because there were many sizes of straws and we had to try them all. In the end, the widest straw worked the best. However, it was very short and very hard to blow up so in the end, we stayed with the wide straw but it was hard to blow up.

Personal relevance

In this project we ran into lots of problems and had to work in partners. I think that perserverance is a very important skill because lots of things in life are hard. I also think that collaboration is an important skill because we need to work together with lots of people and you need to know how to do that.

Puberty Project

I think that it is important to understand the changes during puberty because me(and everyone else in my grade) is approaching the age where puberty starts and we need to know what to expect so we aren’t surprised when the changes start to happen

The change I am most confident about smelling a little bad because I washwith soap every day so I can probably handle the smell quite well. I am most concerned about emotional changes because I don’t know how I could handle it and I already have trouble handling my emotions.

When I am looking for info online, I will first make sure that it is from a credible source and I will try to find information from sources like body talk and brainpop because the information there is appropriate and credible.

One aspect of my learning that I want to improve is working with others because for this project, we can choose whether or not to work with a partner and I chose not to. I just feel uncomfortable when working with others.

This is my project
