I used to think mental health is not an important point, and can be easily cured, before this mental health unit. Specifically, I also had misconceptions about Eating Disorders, and they cause people to eat less food.
However, after I learned a lot about mental health in this previous unit, I now clearly think that mental health is very important, and it is very hard and cruel to lots of people. I also learned that mental health can be easily cured from the help by the environment. I do not have any misconceptions about eating disorders, I realized how eating disorders can not only be eating less food, it can also be eating a lot amount of food. My perspective shifted from the empathy how people get very hurt and damaged by metal health so we should help them. Lastly, I also learned how social media can easily influence them and may cause mental health.
Some of the slides we used in the video of mental health unit final project.
I created this this artifact because I wanted to express my hobbies I think it’s important in my life and how I want them to be in my future.
My Goals: 1. Being passionate, trying hard. 2. Improve with basketball and get in C1 basketball team this semester. 3. Work hard and get good results.
TTG <TRANSDISCIPLINARY TRANSFER GOAL>
The TTG I chose to reflect upon throughout this year is Critical Thinking. Critical thinking means thinking from different perspectives and analyzing ideas carefully. This year, I tried to improve my critical thinking by understanding problems more deeply and thinking about different ways to solve them.
SCIENCE
Evidence of Organization
How useful is my science notebook as a learning tool?
My science notebook is well organized, with clear and detailed notes about the topics I learned in science this year. It helps me review the concepts easily and understand the lessons better.
Evidence of Active Learner Habits (60 seconds)
What I improved: 1. The quality of the works. 2. Concentrating in class. 3. Interest in science.
Evidence of Understanding of Key Concepts
I improved my 3 for 3 scores in semester 2 compared to semester 1, which shows that my understanding of science concepts became stronger.
Evidence of Growth in Science Skills
Before: My CER responses were shorter and did not always include clear explanations.
After: My CER skills improved from semester 1 to semester 2. I effectively engaged in the argument by using correct data, summarizing information, and explaining the details more clearly.
MATH
Active Learner Habits
One strength I bring to math class is working hard to understand the problems.
Another strength I bring is showing my work step by step when solving problems.
A third strength I bring is trying different strategies when solving difficult questions.
Area of Growth
One habit I want to improve this semester is to finish my homework the day its given.
This is an area of growth for me because often finish my homework the day after, so I get tired easily having all the works to do.
Plan for Growth Explain how you will work on improving this habit.
– I will work on this habit by organizing and practice the plans.
– One specific action I will take is being responsible and taking actions towards my plans.
Math Notation and Communication
Before:
After:
My math work has improved because I show my work more clearly and use better math notation to explain my reasoning.
Evidence of Understanding of Key Concepts
Over time, my math notebook shows that I understand how to solve math problems by showing each step clearly. One strength in this work is that I organized my solution so it is easy to follow. This work shows growth because my explanations are clearer than earlier in the year.
This example shows that I understand how to apply math concepts to solve problems. One strength in this work is that I used the correct method and explained my thinking. This work shows growth because I was able to solve more complex problems than before.
Final Reflection:
Overall, my work shows that I can apply math concepts, organize my solutions clearly, and explain my reasoning more confidently than before.
LANGUAGE ARTS
This year in Language Arts, I improved my writing and ability to explain my ideas more clearly. I worked on organizing my essays and supporting my ideas with evidence.
I want to improve on my vocabularies and grammar use.
SOCIAL STUDIES
In Social Studies, I learned about different historical topics and improved my understanding by analyzing information and thinking from different perspectives, which connects to my TTG of being a critical thinker.
I want to improve on learning more details of history.
DRAMA
In Drama, I improved my confidence when performing and expressing emotions while acting. I also worked on collaborating with my classmates during performances. I learned lots of new theater theories.
ART
In Art, I explored different creative ideas and improved my design and creativity skills. I learned how to express ideas through different types of artwork.
PE
In PE, I worked on improving my physical fitness and teamwork skills. I also focused on participating actively in sports we are working each units.
CHINESE
This year in Chinese, I worked on improving my reading, writing, and speaking skills. I practiced using new vocabulary and tried to communicate more confidently in class.
I want to improve the studying methods and time using.
HEALTH
In Health class, we learned about mental health and well-being. We often read articles and analyzed them to better understand different perspectives and situations. This helped me improve my critical thinking skills, because I had to think carefully about the information and reflect on how it connects to real life.
FINAL REFLECTION
Areas of improvement: One area for improvement is sustaining passion and commitment in every activity. Occasionally, frustration can affect my motivation when tasks become challenging. I hope to strengthen my perseverance and maintain a positive attitude while continuing to work hard.
I learned the different space usings and how to play pickleball. I developed my pickleball skills and how to reflect and bounce the ball. I observed various skills with lots of videos of pickleball, it was really helpful since I learnt there was a space called “kitchen,” and I tried many different skills.
I learned how self care throughout this unit and reducing screentime and expanding my times in bed.
After using these apps such as ScreenZen and Tick Tick, I I started to notice a real shift in my daily routine and overall well-being. It helped me become much more careful of how often I was using certain apps, like Instagram, Tick Tok, etc. Also limiting that access forced me to use my phone more intentionally rather than out of habit. I wasn’t mindlessly scrolling late at night anymore, which made it easier for me to wind down and fall aslep earlier. On the other hand, TickTick helped me stay on top of my tasks, breaking down my to-do lists into manageable goals and spreading them out through the week. I no longer left everything until the last minute, which meant I finished my works earlier and did not stress about unfinished tasks from school and right before bed.
Audience Insight: What key message do you want your audience to understand about you as they view your artwork? How did you communicate this message?
The key message i want the audience to understand from my artwork is “The Word Full of Me.” The reason I titled the artwork as “The Ocean Full of ME” is also the reason. I wanted to explain my positiveness with the musics, and my hobbies. I included my hamsters, Viola, basketball, card games, etc.
Risk and Experimentation: During the creation of your artwork, how did you take risks and experiment in order to effectively express your intended message?
The risk was there were some black spaces. However, by expressing my inner power of personalities and my hobbies, I make the artwork more full.
After meeting Kool Koor and learning about his artistic journey, how do you think his background in the graffiti culture of the Bronx influenced his aesthetic choices in the techniques and styles he demonstrated?
After meeting Kool Koor, I learned about the depth of graffiti culture and the aesthetic choices and techniques styles. In my opinion, my favorite part was drawing in the DNA inside where we painted with big brush strokes.
2. Environmental Impact on Art Creation
Considering Kool Koor’s shift from street art to studio work, how do you think different environments (like the streets versus a classroom) impact an artist’s creative process and choices? In what ways did you feel these environmental influences while trying out his painting style?
I think environments does impact artists a lot. The creative thoughts Kool Koor got was due to his family, friend environments. If there were no environments for him about graffiti, he would’ve not be able to go through the way.
3. Personal Reflection on Aesthetic Development
What aspects of your culture or environment do you think will influence your future artistic choices for your self-portrait mixed media artwork? How can you incorporate elements from your own background into your artwork to express your unique identity?
I think my environment like Korea, Shanghai, my friend’s and my family will make my portrait. I want to express my unique identity by incorporating elements like my life!
I chose the critical thinking question as evidence of my best thinking because I used my critical thinking skills clearly and detailedly throughout explaining the full transformations.
I chose question 8 as evidence of mt best thinking because I wrote the transformations, dilations, reflection and rotation through the whole full paragraph and pointing the center point clearly.
Throughout the unit, I improved the most at explaining the. transformations clearly.
I feel that I still need to work on making it simple.
My three strength this year: 1: Critical Thinking 2: Clearly analyzing 3: Geometry
The next unit, linear equations and relationships, I want also want to improve on equations, proportionality, and graphing skills.
In the next unit, I want to improve on vocabularies and proportionality. This is important because, finding relationships between geometry, numbers, and even social is sometimes hard and confusing.
During the process of reaching the goal, I might get stuck by the word problems since my English skills are not yet very advanced.
When I get stuck, I might need help by the teacher, and I will try very hard to develop my mathatic abilities.
What did I learn about language, communication, or writing through this unit? Which piece best shows my growth so far this year?
IN this unit, I learned a lot how communication works between different languages and how important tone, writing skills, and grammar are in making meaning clear. I n ow understandbetter how to teach and explain language to others, which also helped me improve my own understanding. Learning how grammar functions helped me see how language isstructured and how to use it more effectively.
Far this year, I really enjoyedt his unit the most. I had a lot of fun communicating with my alien partner, and I found that teaching is actually one off the best method for me to learn . Wwhile teaching the rules of grammar over and over, I found myself memorizing and understanding how parts of speech work. That showed me how much I’ve gorwn and how much I can learn when I repeatedly use what I know.
