DYSTOPIAN FICTION

DID YOU ENJOY THE GIVER :

YES ,and here are some reasons why i enjoyed the Giver include Jonas’s compelling journey, the chilling reality of “release,” the beautiful but simple writing, and the lingering, open-ended conclusion, making it a “gateway” into dystopian fiction and a book that stays with me .

WERE LITERATURE DISCUSSIONS USEFUL :

Yes, literature discussions about The Giver are extremely useful, sparking critical thinking on profound themes like memory, choice, individuality vs. conformity, love, pain, and the dangers of totalitarian control, making it ideal for Socratic seminars and connecting to real-world issues, even with its accessible language and unresolved ending.

WHAT ACADEMIC DISCUSSION STRATEGIES DID I IMPROVE ON:

I improved on preparing beforehand, sharing ideas with a partner, and tried using structures like Socratic seminars or Four Corners to deepen engagement and communication skills.

DO YOU THINK YOU UNDERSTAND THE MAJOR CHARACTERISTICS OF DYSTOPIAN FICTION:

Yes, I understand the major characteristics of dystopian fiction, which center on oppressive societal control (government, tech, religion), loss of individuality, a bleak future/environment, constant surveillance, a powerful elite, a protagonist who questions the system, and themes of control, rebellion, and dehumanization, often serving as a warning about current trends.

HOW DOES READING DYSTOPIAN FICTION REQUIRE YOU TO THINK DIFFERENT :

Reading dystopian fiction makes me think differently by forcing me to do critical examination of current society, acting as a “what if” warning system that highlights dangers in politics, tech, and social control, promoting empathy for groups, and encouraging proactive thinking about values and potential futures rather than passive acceptance, all while revealing hope within bleakness. It shifts your mindset from mere entertainment to engaged reflection on real-world issues.

Unit 2 Otzi Unit Portfolio Reflection

  1. What did I work on?
  1. During this unit, ‘Why should we care about the past?’, I worked on
  1. Making observations, inferences and wonderings
  1. Using photos and articles as evidence
  1. Writing a CER paragraph
  1. Asking and answering open and closed questions
  1. Taking part in the Otzi Mock Trial, my role was Expert witness during the mock trial.
  1. What did I learn? Why should we care about the past?
  1. We should care about the past Despite its many challenges, studying prehistory can help unearth and clarify extremely important insighnts into the development of humans, nations, and cultures worldwide. I feel that during this unit we learned about tools and medicin that the neolithic people used to use.

b.  It can show where humans came from, how they have changed, and how even the deepest past may relate to the present and future.

  1. What worked well?
  1. I am proud of the following work and I am proud of keeping myself on track and being aware and patient during the mock trial and this whole unit.
  1. I am proud of the work above because it shows what I was capable of and also shows that I can prove my rights and that I sometimes was in the wrong. I am also proud of the time and effort I put into this project. This project was a blast and made me come out of my comfort zone .
  1. What did not work well?
  1. I found some of this work challenging, research , problem solving and getting a lot of ideas for my work.
  1. I found the work above challenging because it pushed me to my limits for finding research and helped me show that even when I was about to give up I could still find a way out of the darkness.
  1. Personal Relevance
  1. Collaboration and communications skills are important in my future because In today’s fast-paced business environment, effective communication and collaboration are essential soft skills. These skills can significantly enhance your ability to work within teams, manage projects, resolve conflicts and lead others.

BAKE SALE🎄🍪

WHAT DID I DO 🫵:

Over the course of four days Chloe and I have been finding unit rates and the prices of ingredients. We were also trying to use collaboration to go at the same pace .

WHAT DID WE LEARN 🧐:

In day one, I learned that I could use percentages and determining batch cost are crucial for future success because they provide the financial data needed for accurate pricing, profitability analysis, and strategic decision-making.

In day 2, I tried to understand batch costs and markup costs helps business be more effective , manage expenses materials, and ensure long-term sustainability.

In day 3, we identified cost-saving opportunities and setting realistic financial targets. And finally in day 4 we sold the cookies .

WHAT WORKED👍 :

During the percents unit, I learned how to calculate percentages by finding a part of a whole, while a unit cost in a batch costing unit is determined by dividing the total cost of a batch by the number of items in that batch. I think both concepts rely on proportional relationships, I think I improved on percents focus and on ratios (part/whole×cross× 100), and batch costing focuses on cost allocation (total cost / total units).

WHAT DID NOT WORK 😔:

The goal was to build a deep understanding of ratios and percentages and their application in real-world scenarios. The initial approach relied heavily on procedural explanations and abstract formulas.I think it was hard to cordinate our tasks so that we could serve all our customers.

PERSONAL RELEVINCE 😁:

It was fun for me because a got to bake and have fun with my friends and I got to show my marketing skills witch could of helped me in the futur.

SWIMMING AND SNORKELING REFLESTION

I LEARNED:

I learned to make sure the mask is snug around your face but not too tight.I also learned different movments that are needed to survive for example  freestyle stroke, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly stroke, and sidestroke.

I IMPROVED :

I realy improved on the cleanless of my strokes and i improved on my breathing with out stress and moving without any struggle.

I NEED TO INPROVE ON :

I think I did pretty well. Though i did improve on hand signals and i also improved on handilling stress .

CONCLUTION :

In conclution Swimming is more than just a sport—it’s a lifelong skill that benefits your body, mind, and overall well-being. It builds strength, improves cardiovascular health, enhances flexibility, and supports mental relaxation.

Egg Car

What did I do 🧐:

Are criteria was using Newtons 3rd Law of Motion to design and build a car with a safety system that will deliver an egg safely down a ramp.

What did I learn 🧠:

Newtons 1 law was seen during the time when the car stoped and the egg flew forward .And newtons 3 Law was seen when the car hits the brick and goes forward . These laws were shown to us through out all the test trials .

What worked💪 :

I think that even though I was sick for 1 day of class I still tried hard to collaborate and give advice to my team mates .I think I worked well and supported with out a doubt. it was a great experence for me to show my knowing of newtons laws in the experement .

What did not work😔 :

I think my team and I could make the car mr stable and more protection so that the egg wouldn’t fly out . I think my team always ready to get feed back from the teacher. We had also some trouble for the meight since are car fliped a lot .

Personal Relevance 😁:

I feel like if on this expireince we used newtons 1 and 3 Law we would be able to use them in the futur . I feel like the collaboration was very good and I could use it in the futur . I also realised that I didn’t have to be perfect and that I can always improve it .

Balloon Car

WHAT DID I DO🫵:

During the time we did a balloon car experience we had to use different materials for example straws , tape ,hot glue, balloon and finally a tray.We used the balloon car to see what forces it needed to move forward at a very high speed .

WHAT DID I LEARN 🧠:

Newtons 1 law :An object at rest tends to stay at rest unless a force acts upon it .We see this law in action when the balloon car is not moving and suddenly a human lets go of the balloon filled with air.

Newtons 2 law :the acceleration of an object with constant mass is proportional to the net force action on it and is in the same direction of the net force. We see this law in action when we put more weight on the car and it slows down a bit .

Newtons 3 law :All actions have an equal and opposite reaction. We see this when the air from the balloon and because of that the car speeds up a lot .

WHAT WORKED 👍:

I think my collaboration with my partner was solid this worked because me and my partner shared and helped each other when we didn’t understand .I also think I did a big improvement on building a solid car since it barely slowed down even by using weights.

WHAT DID NOT WORK👎 :

. I struggled on remembering newtons 1 law

. to solve this problem I practiced on the weekend a lot and got better .

PERSONAL RELAVINCE👊 :

. the balloon car was similar to solving problems in the real world, when something doesn’t work I try to fix it with my critical thinking skills .I see newtons 3 law in real life when for example you hit some one they hit you back .It helps to know these laws for life .

Art reflection

My favourite piece was a heart shaped pinched pot since a made it for my mom who always took care of me and I also would like to tell her that her support and selfless nature fill every day with joy, and I am so grateful for everything she does . To the world, she may be one person, but to me, she is the world she carried me through so much I am so lucky that she is always here for me . Each piece of this project carries a piece of my heart , though some people think this was something easy to make because it was made out of clay. This was hard because it took me love and care to make it .

Here it is :

Creative writing reflection

What are we doing? I was writing a a creative writing story based on a theme that matters to me.

What are we learning? Theme ( my purpose for writing this story ,my message to readers )

What’s working? Character development ( creative and believable characters that have interesting lives.)

Areas for growth:I think I could write more dialogs and more percisice towards the side characters to make the story more interesting.

Personal relevance: I think I really enjoyed working on a story I even had some very cool sentences like : MY HEART Skipped a beat—YET A SPARK OF HOPE REMAINED. And I knew I had no choice my heart berned with guilt. Doing this creative writing story helped me expand my thinking skills witch will help me develop a bright life .

Critical thinking

GRAVITRAX

During the time I was building a maze using Gravitrax and a marble. I needed to use my critical thinking to solve the problem ( how to make the marble go fast through out the maze). At first I was building a path for the marble . But then I realised that this path had to be efficient and fast .So I decided that should use my critical thinking Ideas to create an efficient path for the marble. In general I think critical thinking is very needed for this activity and for the problems I had to solve.

This is a photo of me and my partners sharing are critical thinking ideas.
